Chapter 820 Stubborn

Adeline stared in shock at the servant kneeling on the ground.

"Lucy, you..."

Lucy was the servant she trusted the most. For over six months, she had been taking care of Zara with meticulous attention, and Adeline had grown particularly fond of her.

Just moments ago, Lucy had been the first to step forward, admitting she had taken money from Jasper and was too scared to reveal that he had been there.

But now...

Adeline furrowed her brow and instinctively took a step back. "Lucy, what is going on?"

Lucy looked up, seeing David and his men already entering the dormitory. She quickly bit her lip. "Miss Wilson, can you..."

"Can you stop them from searching?"

"The ointment is under my pillow. I can get it myself."

With that, Lucy scrambled to her feet and rushed towards the dormitory.

She had barely taken two steps when Jasper blocked her path.

He raised his hand to stop her, a cold smile on his lips. "Since you've already admitted to Adeline that it was you, why are you afraid of them searching your things?"

"In such a hurry to get back, is there something else in your room besides the ointment?"

Jasper's words made Lucy's face turn pale.

"I... I..."

She bit her lip, about to say something, when David's men emerged with a box.

Seeing the box, Lucy's face turned ashen.

She bit her lip and lowered her head. "Miss Wilson, I'm sorry."

With that, she turned and tried to run into a nearby pillar.

In the nick of time, Oliver grabbed her wrist, holding her in place with a mocking smile. "I want to see what's in your room."

David emptied the contents of the box.

Inside, there was not only the ointment for Zara but also...

A small speaker, a voice recorder, some children's clothes, and several bank cards.

At the bottom of the box was a small bag.

Inside the bag were clear ziplock bags containing hair and nails, and small bottles filled with blood.

David knelt down, examining the items with a frown. What was all this?

He recognized the bank cards, but what was the meaning of the children's clothes and the speaker?

He instinctively turned on the speaker.

The sound of a child's crying filled the air.

As the crying began, Adeline's nails dug deeply into her palms.

She had heard this crying before, more than once.

Linda, standing nearby, widened her eyes. "Isn't this the crying we hear in the yard every time it rains?"

When Linda first arrived in Oceancrest City, Adeline was always distraught, saying she constantly heard a child's crying.

Linda thought Adeline was just overly stressed.

But later...

Every time it rained, Linda could clearly hear the crying in the yard.

She was scared, thinking she was imagining things, and would comfort Adeline, who was also hearing it.

And every time Adeline heard the crying, she would think of her lost child, sinking into despair.

Now, hearing the sound from the speaker, she finally understood.

Adeline had never imagined things, nor had Linda.

It was all Lucy's doing!

Adeline bit her lip, trembling with anger.

She turned to look at Lucy, who was pinned against the pillar by Oliver. "The child's crying I heard before, was that you?"

Lucy was too scared to lift her head. "I..."

"I..."

"If the speaker is crying, what's on the voice recorder?" David asked, frowning.

"The voice recorder is empty!" Lucy shouted, panicking. "Don't listen to it!"

The more she protested, the more curious David became about the recorder's contents.

He smirked and turned it on.

The recorder played the sound of rain.

David listened for a while, hearing nothing but rain, and tossed the recorder to Jasper, continuing to examine the other items.

The children's clothes in Lucy's box were the ones Adeline had thought she was hallucinating about due to missing her child.

And the hair in the ziplock bags, along with the blood in the small bottles...

"The hair is Miss Wilson's. The hair with blood is from Miss Wilson's deceased child."

"The blood is also from Miss Wilson and her deceased child."

Lucy explained through gritted teeth. "Mr. Foster didn't believe the child Miss Wilson lost was his, so he had me..."

"Still trying to slander me?" Jasper interrupted coldly before she could finish.

He stepped forward, grabbing Lucy's jaw. "I'll ask you one more time, who are you working for?"

Lucy couldn't meet Jasper's eyes. "I'm working for Mr. Foster."

"You're lying!" Jasper narrowed his eyes, glaring at her. "So young and already such a liar?"

"I'm not lying. Mr. Foster sent me here."

Seeing Jasper pressing Lucy, Daisy scoffed. "Why would she lie?"

"If you didn't instruct her to do all this, why did you give her money? Why did you give each servant a hundred thousand dollars and have the surveillance footage deleted?"

"Jasper, how do you explain that?"

Daisy's words made Adeline bite her lip silently.

She looked up, coldly staring at Jasper. "Those black and gold cards are from the Foster Group."

"How do you explain that?"

This was why Adeline had believed Jasper was framing Zara.

The Foster Group's bonus cards, each worth a hundred thousand dollars.

She couldn't believe Jasper would give such cards to the servants for no reason.

"What do I need to explain?" Jasper sneered, crossing his arms and looking down at everyone.

"I did give each person in this house a card."

"As for why I gave them the cards..."

Jasper pulled a servant from the crowd. "You tell them, what did I say when I gave you the cards?"

The servant hesitated before cautiously answering. "Mr. Foster said the money was a reward."

"He wanted us to take good care of Miss Wilson and Mrs. Phoebe. Once Miss Wilson recovered and Mrs. Phoebe woke up, he would give us a raise."

She turned to look at the head of the surveillance room. "He also received a bonus, so he deleted Mr. Foster's footage, fearing Miss Wilson would be upset."

The servant finished, glancing at Lucy. "Mr. Foster was being kind, giving us bonuses behind Miss Wilson's back."

"He didn't ask us to hide anything or delete the footage."

The courtyard fell silent again.

Lucy was defiant.

She glared at the servant who spoke up. "Mind your own business!"

"I'm working for Mr. Foster, I..."

"Stubborn." Ryan sneered, his gaze icy as he looked at Lucy. "Still won't admit it."

"Do I need to show you the footage of Daisy giving you the ointment?"
