Chapter 416 He Must Still Be Alive

Adeline's words made the car feel like a pressure cooker ready to blow.

Jasper gripped the wheel, eyes shut tight. "Adeline, you keep saying I'm shielding Luna, but are your employees squeaky clean?"

Adeline shot back, "If Mr. Foster really dug into it, you'd see who's at fault. But would you? Would you call out Ms. Jones's games? No way."

Adeline took a deep breath. "Jasper, you're always like this. When you like a woman, you let her get away with murder. Molly, Stella, now Luna. Every one of them gets to throw their weight around because they're with you. But not me. I couldn't. When we were together, I was on edge every day, stressing over your mood, your health, your endless social stuff. After we split, I'd wake up at night, wondering what I did wrong, why you were so cold. Then I got it. It wasn't me. You just never liked me."

"Jasper." Adeline sniffled, years of bottled-up pain spilling out.

She tried to hold back her tears. "Since you never liked me, can you just leave me alone? Once Blake and Lauren are better, I'll meet our deal and hit the profit target. Then I'll take Blake and Lauren and go. I'll give Blue Bay back to you. But until then, I don't want to see you. Stop being wishy-washy, Jasper. I don't want a repeat of tonight. I'm a single mom trying to do right, and I don't need drama from my ex's new girl."

Adeline tried to open the car door, but it was still locked.

Even after all that, Jasper didn't unlock it.

Adeline closed her eyes and let out a bitter laugh. "What do I have to do for you to let me go?"

Jasper, eyes still shut, gripped the wheel tighter, his voice rough. "I can stop coming around. But you gotta promise me one thing."

Adeline wiped her tears, trying to keep it together. "What?"

Jasper took a deep breath. "You can't be with Vikram."

That's why he was here tonight.

He and Adeline might never get back together. But she couldn't be with Vikram. She could be with Brandon, or anyone else.

"Don't worry," Adeline said. "Mr. Foster and I have six-year-old kids, while you're with the twenty-one-year-old Ms. Jones. We're not the same."

Jasper let out a bitter laugh and finally hit the unlock button.

Adeline said, "I won't be with Vikram, and I hope Mr. Foster keeps yourword. Don't come here again until I leave Radiance Springs."

With that, Adeline got out of the car and headed for the villa.

Jasper sat there, watching her until she went inside.

After a long time, he sighed, about to start the car when he noticed a tear on his hand.

He closed his eyes and called Jason. "Let's grab a drink."

On the other end, Jason, who'd known Jasper forever, got the vibe right away.

Jason sighed, his voice steady. "Where you at?"

Jasper replied, "Blue Bay."

Jason said, "You still went to see her, huh?"

Jasper held the phone in silence for a long time before speaking hoarsely. "She said I never loved her."

She said that in his heart, Molly, Stella, and Luna were all more important than her.

But what she didn't know was that he treated Molly well out of guilt, thinking Adeline had really passed away and wanting to take care of her beloved sister.

He treated Stella well because the person Stella pretended to be was her.

Jasper closed his eyes. As for Luna.

If Luna didn't donate her bone marrow to Blake, Blake would die.

If Blake died, would she still be able to live well then?

But he couldn't tell her these things anymore.

He couldn't say it. Even if he told her, what good would it do?

She would still think he was lying to her.

Jason sighed on the other end of the line. "I'm heading out now. The usual spot, I'll be there with you."

In the villa, Adeline stood on the second-floor balcony, watching the direction Jasper's car left, tears silently falling.

He didn't offer a single explanation. Other than not wanting her to be with Vikram, he said nothing.

He didn't even refute her, saying he indeed cared about her, saying he had once liked her. He accepted everything she said.

"Mommy." At some point, Blake had already been standing behind her.

Adeline wiped away her tears, forcing a smile, then turned to look at Blake. "Why aren't you asleep yet?"

Blake stood at the balcony door, holding a thin blanket. "It's very late, and the weather is getting cold."

He handed the blanket he was holding to Adeline. "If the breeze here makes you feel better, wrap yourself in this."

Adeline paused, then finally broke into a smile.

She raised her hand to ruffle Blake's hair. "You're quite knowledgeable for your age."

"Of course." Blake sighed. "Are you crying because of Jasper?"

Adeline paused, touched her tear-stained, reddened face, and nodded. "How did you know?"

Blake said, "Who else would make you so sad that you'd cry here?"

Blake reached out and gently held Adeline's fingers. "Mommy, even though I'm just a kid and don't understand adult matters."

Blake took a piece of candy from his pocket and placed it in Adeline's hand. "But every time I hurt a lot, the nurse would give me a piece of candy and say that a little sweetness would make it hurt less. I always thought she was childish, treating me like an ordinary kid. But Mommy, do you want to try it?"

Adeline held the candy, helpless. "Do you think Mommy is more childish than you?"

After saying that, Adeline squatted down and picked Blake up. "Mommy is not sad anymore, and it doesn't hurt anymore. Let's go to bed."

Blake sighed, lying in Adeline's arms. "I really don't know how to make Mommy happy. If Bennett were here, it would be great. Every time Mommy was sad, as soon as he spoke, you would smile."

Hearing Blake mention Bennett, Adeline's body stiffened slightly. She bit her lip.

Sensing Adeline's emotions, Blake pursed his lips and looked up seriously at Adeline's face.

"Mommy. Do you believe in the telepathy of triplets? Recently, Lauren and I have both felt Bennett's presence. He must still be alive."
