Chapter 401 Jasper, Are You Ready?

Adeline's questions were like daggers.

Jason glanced at Adeline through the rearview mirror, his face scrunched up in confusion.

Jason let out a heavy sigh, rubbing his temples. "Look, I get it. You think Jasper and I are full of crap. But trust me, when the time's right, you'll get it. I've never lied to you."

Adeline rolled her eyes, clearly not buying it.

Soon enough, they pulled up to Blue Bay.

Adeline took a deep breath and thanked Jason in a flat tone before hopping out of the car.

When she stepped into the villa, Alice was tidying up, trying to coax Lauren and Blake, who were lounging on the sofa, to hit the sack.

Alice said, "Blake, Lauren, Ms. Wilson said she'd be back late tonight 'cause she's at a party."

Blake sat there, gently fixing Lauren's hair. "If Lauren's up, so am I."

Lauren, fiddling with her fingers, kept her head down.

As soon as Adeline walked in, she saw Alice sigh and head to the bathroom to rinse the mop.

Adeline sighed too. She knew if she didn't come back, Lauren and Blake would stay up all night.

"Blake, Lauren," Adeline called out, slipping off her shoes with a tired smile. "Why aren't you two in bed yet?"

Hearing her voice, both kids looked up.

Blake let go of Lauren. "Mommy, you're back?"

Lauren stayed quiet, rushing over to hug Adeline's leg.

Adeline sighed, feeling Lauren's anxiety, and scooped her up.

Blake hopped off the sofa, walked over, and sniffed her. "Did you drink?"

"Just one glass," Adeline said, carrying Lauren up the stairs. "No biggie. Let's get to bed."

Blake sighed. "You know you always get a headache after drinking."

He leaned over the railing and called out to Alice, who was still cleaning. "Alice, can you get some hangover meds for my mom?"

"On it!" Alice nodded, put down the mop, and headed to the kitchen.

Blake sighed again and followed Adeline upstairs.

Adeline saw everything Blake did and felt a mix of warmth and sadness.

Blake was so thoughtful. Who would've guessed he was Jasper's kid?

A memory of Jasper gently holding Luna Jones flashed in her mind.

No. Maybe Jasper was kind and caring too. But that side of him was never for her.

After tucking Lauren in, Adeline spent half an hour getting both kids to sleep.

When she came out, Alice was waiting with the medicine.

Seeing her, Alice quickly handed over the hangover soup. "Ms. Wilson, Ms. Bishop said she's leaving and gave me a bunch of tips on taking care of Blake."

"What's up with that?"

"She also said her teacher's moving in tomorrow to take over Blake's care."

"Why's Mr. Foster switching up doctors all of a sudden?"

Adeline shut her eyes, picturing Jasper holding Luna, promising to bring Freya over to take care of her.

"Doesn't matter," Adeline said, downing the medicine. "Blake's surgery is in less than two weeks."

Alice nodded. "True. Once Blake's surgery is done, it won't matter who the doctor is."

She glanced at Adeline. "Oh, by the way, Ms. Wilson, I talked to Ms. Bishop today. She said the bone marrow donor for Blake isn't  local."

"But since Blake's here, the donor came personally to avoid making Blake travel."

"When I asked for the donor's info, she said it was a secret and couldn't be disclosed."

"Ms. Wilson, do you think we should find out who this donor is before Blake's surgery and visit them?"

"After all, this donor is giving Blake bone marrow without asking for anything in return and even came personally."

Adeline's hand paused. "I'll find time to look into it."

She wanted to know the donor's info too. But the hospital and doctors were tight-lipped.

She didn't want to mess up the donor's life; she just wanted to show some gratitude.

After a shower and getting ready for bed, Adeline saw hundreds of messages on her phone.

She opened them one by one, finding they were all money transfers.

Linda, Violet, Timothy, Robert, and even Tim and Tom.

Each transfer came with a message wishing Blake well.

Adeline sighed and returned the money one by one.

She knew Mia meant well tonight. But now, almost everyone knew she was strapped for cash.

Just as Adeline finished replying to everyone's messages and was about to rest, her phone buzzed.

It was a video from Jasper.

Adeline frowned, inexplicably opening the video.

The video was shot in a bedroom. Judging by the bed and decor, it was likely Jasper's bedroom.

Why did Jasper send her this?

Adeline frowned, about to close it, when the camera angle shifted downwards.

Finally, the video centered on Luna's slender legs.

"Jasper, are you done?"

Luna's soft voice came through.

Adeline couldn't help but smirk coldly.

Luna was sitting on Jasper's bed, filming a video for her?

"I'm done." Jasper's deep voice came from outside the door.

Then, the door opened, and Jasper, wearing white trousers and a white shirt with a khaki apron over it, walked in.

He was holding a bowl, walking into the room.

Jasper placed the bowl on the table, smiling gently and helplessly. "I told you not to drink because of your poor health, but you insisted. I made some hangover breakfast; it might help. Try it?"

The video cut off abruptly.

Adeline held her phone, torturing herself by watching the video again.

That night, she didn't know how many times she watched the video. Her heart ached to the point of numbness.

Blake was like Jasper—gentle and considerate.

However, Jasper's gentleness and consideration were never directed at her.
