Chapter 746 Don't Wait for Him Anymore
Brandon glanced at Adeline out of the corner of his eye and then chuckled as he shook Howard's hand. "No need to thank me, Mr. Phoebe. We're all gonna be family sooner or later."
Howard paused, then burst into laughter. "Yeah, yeah! Brandon, you're right. We'll be family soon enough!"
The conversation between the two men made Adeline and Mia exchange a puzzled look.
What was going on?
Wasn't Howard supposed to be thanking Jasper, who had rushed back to Radiance Springs overnight to find herbs for Zara?
Why was he thanking Brandon instead and talking about becoming family?
Something was definitely off.
Just then, the door to the hospital room opened.
Howard let go of Brandon's hand and rushed into the room.
Dennis and Oliver stepped out.
Adeline bit her lip and quickly walked over. "Mr. Gonzalez."
She took a deep breath, carefully choosing her words before speaking slowly, "Was it Jasper who helped cure my mother?"
"Jasper?"
Hearing the name, Dennis's face immediately darkened.
He snorted. "Mrs. Phoebe's illness was cured thanks to the herbs Mr. Torres sent!"
Dennis pulled out his phone as he spoke. "Jasper's friend Jason did give me a backpack with a box inside. But..."
Dennis showed Adeline a photo on his phone of some weeds.
"This is the herb Jasper brought back!"
Dennis was furious. "He told me that once he found the herb, I should start preparing the other ingredients and add his herb as soon as it arrived to make the medicine for Mrs. Phoebe. And what happened? I gave him photos and descriptions, and he brought back a weed to fool me! I kindly suggested he help Mrs. Phoebe so you two might reconcile! And Jasper humiliated me like this!"
He continued, "If Mr. Torres hadn't brought the real Crag Root Herb last night, I would have wasted all the other ingredients and become a laughingstock!"
Dennis's words made Adeline's face turn pale.
She instinctively took a step back.
How could Jasper use weeds to humiliate Dennis?
"Mr. Foster and the Phoebe family have such deep hatred. Asking him to help Mrs. Phoebe was unlikely from the start." From a distance, Brandon, sitting in his wheelchair, spoke calmly.
"But Jasper using weeds to humiliate Mr. Gonzalez was too much. Mr. Gonzalez is a renowned herbalist. Starting the preparation and not finishing it would make him a joke. He may hate the Phoebe family, but he shouldn't have humiliated Mr. Gonzalez."
Brandon sighed. "It seems the Phoebe family's survival has been troubling Jasper, making him lose his mind."
Adeline clenched her fists tightly at her sides.
No, Jasper wouldn't do something like that, no matter how irrational he was.
And if he wanted to humiliate Dennis, he wouldn't have sent someone as important as Jason.
Jasper had other trusted people.
If it wasn't truly important, he wouldn't have bothered Jason.
There must be some misunderstanding.
Suddenly, Howard's voice came from the hospital room. "Adeline, come in."
Adeline hesitated for a moment, then walked into the room.
As soon as she entered, Zara grabbed her hand tightly. "Adeline."
Tears streamed down Zara's face. "If it weren't for you, I might not have made it to today..."
She sniffled, her voice choked with emotion. "Adeline, come back to the Phoebe family, please? I want to spend the rest of my life making it up to you."
Adeline pressed her lips together, her eyes darkening. "I don't want to go back to the Phoebe family."
Her answer made Zara's face turn pale.
Zara clutched her chest and coughed up blood.
Seeing Zara's blood, Howard froze in shock.
He frowned, tending to Zara while casting a cold glance at Adeline:
"Why don't you want to return to the Phoebe family? Is it still because of Jasper? "Jasper promised to save your mother, but he brought weeds to humiliate Dennis and almost delayed your mother's treatment. And you still trust him? Adeline, I know the Phoebe family has wronged you, but we will make it right! Has Jasper ever made it right for you all these years?"
Howard's words left Adeline silent.
Zara frowned, interrupting Howard, and turned to Adeline, her voice soft.
"If you don't want to return to the Phoebe family, that's fine. Just visit me often."
Adeline bit her lip, looking at Zara's pale face, feeling a deep pain in her heart.
She suddenly understood why Lauren had been so fond of Jasper the first time she met him.
Blood ties were a powerful thing.
Just like now.
Seeing Zara so weak, Adeline felt a deep ache and reluctance.
But she still didn't want to return to the Phoebe family.
Adeline stayed with Zara in the hospital room for a long time.
When she finally left, the others were already gone.
Only Oliver remained in the hallway.
Seeing her come out, Oliver smiled and headed towards the elevator. "Let's grab a bite."
Adeline nodded.
They sat down in a restaurant.
Oliver ordered two simple dishes and then looked at Adeline. "Still don't want to return to the Phoebe family?"
Adeline nodded.
"The Phoebe family isn't full of monsters." Oliver sighed, looking steadily at Adeline. "I've always hoped you'd return to the Phoebe family. After all, you're the biological daughter of both our parents. The Phoebe family is yours. Neither Daisy nor I have the right to inherit it."
Oliver's words left Adeline stunned.
After a moment, she pressed her lips together. "Mr. Phoebe, you must be joking."
"I'm serious." Oliver looked intently at Adeline. "If you knew how much our mother sacrificed for the Phoebe family, you'd understand that the Phoebe family's success is due to her efforts. You're her only daughter. Only you deserve the Phoebe family's assets."
Those words made Adeline bite her lip.
She was a mother too, with three children.
And even with three, she wouldn't want to lose any of them.
Let alone Zara, who had only one.
"Jasper isn't worth waiting for anymore." Oliver sighed. "From the moment he sent fake herbs to humiliate Dennis, he wasn't worth it. Don't wait for him. Come back to the Phoebe family."
