Chapter 786 Which Man Detoxified Her?
"Hold it right there!"
Oliver had just reached the door with Adeline when Howard spun around, his eyes icy and fixed on Oliver.
"You can leave by yourself! Who said you could take Adeline with you?"
Howard stormed over and yanked Adeline's hand out of Oliver's grip.
"Brandon just called. He wants to move up the wedding date with Adeline, thinking it'll bring good luck to Zara."
"I came back today to talk about the wedding with Adeline."
He shot Oliver a frosty look. "If you take her now, who am I supposed to discuss it with?"
Oliver couldn't help but laugh bitterly at Howard's words.
"Bring good luck to Mom?"
"Only a fool like you would buy into Brandon's crap!"
"Shut up!"
Howard slammed his hand down on the table so hard that Dennis's equipment rattled.
Dennis knew it was time to go, so he quickly started packing up his things. As he did, the test report showing that Oliver and Daisy had been drugged fell at Howard's feet.
Howard frowned and picked up the paper. It clearly stated that both Daisy and Oliver had been poisoned and then cured.
Howard squinted at Oliver. "You were poisoned, too, and someone cured you? Who was it?"
Despite the tension, Oliver was still his son. Over the years, Howard and Zara had been worried sick about Oliver's lack of interest in women. And now, Oliver had slept with a woman last night.
Howard's question made Oliver laugh coldly. "Is that any of your business?"
Daisy, standing nearby, quickly chimed in, "Last night, after Oliver got drunk, he took Adeline out for a walk. Could it be..."
"Shut up!"
Howard, Oliver, and Adeline all shouted in unison, cutting Daisy off.
Adeline looked at Howard in shock, not expecting him to scold Daisy, whom he usually doted on.
"Daisy, some things are better left unsaid," Howard said coldly, then turned to Adeline. "If you were with Oliver all night, you must know who the girl was. Bring her here. The Phoebe family men take responsibility. No matter her background, if she's willing, we'll marry her into the family."
Adeline bit her lip and glanced at Oliver. As expected, Oliver sneered and looked at Howard with disdain.
"Old man, you can't even handle your own affairs. Don't meddle in mine. Whether I marry her or not is none of your concern."
Howard glared at him before turning to Daisy. "Go reflect on your actions!"
Daisy could hardly believe her ears. She stared at Howard, forcing a smile. "Dad, you want me to reflect?"
"Who else?" Howard's gaze was icy. "I trusted you when you said Oliver drugged you and ruined your reputation. But now, how do you explain this?"
Daisy felt a chill run down her spine. Her legs trembled, and her voice shook. "Dad, you can't seriously believe Oliver, can you? I... I would never..."
Howard's eyes narrowed, his presence suffocating Daisy. "Daisy, if you admit your mistake now, I might forgive you for your foolish actions out of gratitude for raising you. But if you continue to lie..."
His gaze turned even colder. "Some lies are easily exposed. Are you sure you want me to investigate?"
Feeling the pressure, Daisy bit her lip and began to confess. "Father, it's all my fault... I just thought that if Adeline had this baby, it would bring pain to her, our family, and the child."
"So I lost my mind..."
Before she could finish, Howard kicked her to the ground. "Even if the Phoebe family didn't want Adeline to have this child, we would handle it openly, not with underhanded tactics! And what about Adeline's reputation? She's engaged to Brandon! What would the Torres family think? What would Brandon think?"
Daisy rolled on the ground before struggling to her feet, wiping blood from her mouth. "I... I didn't mean to tarnish Adeline's reputation. I know she can't face the Torres family if she slept with another man..."
She took a deep breath, bowing her head. "So I brought Brandon here."
Adeline gasped, recalling her encounter with Brandon that morning. He had seemed so gentle, almost making her believe he was there for her. But now, she realized he had conspired with Daisy to harm her unborn child.
The memory of Brandon admitting to trying to kill Jasper flashed before her eyes, leaving her breathless. She had thought she knew Brandon well, but now she realized she had never truly understood him.
Oliver sighed, pulling the dazed Adeline into his arms. He looked at Howard coldly. "Old man, you do have some sense."
Howard returned his gaze with equal coldness. "Because I know you're not stupid. If you had drugged Daisy, you would have taken the antidote first. You never touch women, except for that one incident six years ago. You wouldn't risk yourself for Daisy."
Oliver smirked. "Exactly. I'm not as foolish as she is."
Daisy, kneeling on the ground, felt Oliver's words like slaps to her face. She bit her lip hard, regretting not thinking of the antidote last night.
"Old man, you said Brandon is pushing you to hurry up with the wedding plans for him and Adeline?"
"I don't think that wedding is going to happen."
Howard frowned. "Why not?"
Oliver raised an eyebrow. "Guess who cured Daisy's poison?"
