Chapter 547 Who Said There's No Evidence?
Looking at Jasper's face, Adeline smiled. "Okay."
Adeline was too tired to argue anymore, so she just smiled at him. "I'll trust you this once. So, after everything's sorted out, you'll bring Lauren and Blake back and let me take them away, right?"
Jasper's heart skipped a beat. He smiled. "I will."
Jasper hadn't planned on keeping them around. Ever since the incident of Bennett and Adeline's miscarriage, he felt he lost that right. So, even though he knew her trust was just for show, he still wanted to agree.
Jasper's answer caught Adeline off guard.
She thought he'd come up with an excuse. But this was good too.
Adeline's face turned cold. "Then please, Mr. Foster, remember what you said."
With that, Adeline walked straight to the door and closed it. "Tonight, I'll stay in Blake and Lauren's room."
Locked outside, Jasper shook his head helplessly and turned to leave.
Early the next morning, Jasper took Adeline to the mental hospital.
When Gary saw Jasper bringing Adeline back, he thought Jasper still wanted to lock her up. So as soon as they entered, Gary's face turned cold, and he ordered the people around him, "Grab her for me!"
Several people rushed forward but were stopped by Jasper.
Jasper squinted his eyes and protected Adeline in his arms. "Who dares to touch her?"
Gary was a bit surprised. "Mr. Foster?"
"We're here to take that lady out." Jasper's gaze turned icy as he looked Gary up and down. "And about Adeline's finger, we need to have a good talk, Gary."
Jasper's words made Gary's face turn pale.
He glanced at Jasper in shock, then turned his gaze to Adeline, his eyes pleading.
Gary said to Adeline, "Didn't you break your own finger?"
Adeline frowned and said nothing.
Jasper sneered. "Since Gary thinks a person can break their own fingers, then please, Gary, demonstrate for me later. Show me how to break all the bones into pieces while breaking your fingers."
While Jasper dealt with Gary, Adeline found the room where Evelyn was held based on her memory.
In the ward, Evelyn still sat gracefully, exuding both elegance and serene intellect.
Seeing Adeline, Evelyn gently smiled. "Are you here to be sent back to prison, or to take me out?"
Adeline sniffed and sat down in front of her. "I'm here to take you out."
She lowered her eyes. "That night, I left in such haste that I had no idea the person replacing me was you. If I had known..."
"If you had known, I would have had them knock you out and let me continue to stay here in your place." Evelyn gently interrupted Adeline, her voice carrying a hint of relieved laughter. "Adeline, I volunteered to come here in your place; it's something I owe you."
Adeline pursed her lips and gently held Evelyn's hand. "Evelyn, don't say that; you don't owe anyone."
It was all Scott and Luna's conspiracy, it had nothing to do with Evelyn.
"You're wrong." Evelyn sighed and silently closed her eyes. "If I had exposed Scott as an unethical doctor when Caroline and Lucas died, you wouldn't have suffered this pain."
Evelyn's words made Adeline freeze.
Adeline bit her lip. "So Evelyn, about Caroline and Lucas..."
"I know everything." Evelyn closed her eyes and slowly stood up. "Caroline's fall was an accident, but her death wasn't. Scott is a skilled doctor. Caroline's condition was clearly salvageable when she was brought to the hospital, yet the outcome... I respected Scott as my teacher and thought it was just a mistake, so I didn't expose him. Later, when Lucas had a car accident, Scott was still the one who performed the rescue, yet Lucas couldn't be saved. At that time, I already suspected that Scott had violated his medical ethics to be with me again. But I didn't dare to face reality. Until I found evidence that he and Luna conspired to frame Caroline and Lucas, that's when I realized what kind of person he really was."
Evelyn continued, "But by then, I was already married to him. I thought I'll just pretend I don't know. Let me bear all this sin; at least he hasn't harmed anyone else besides me. I just didn't expect that he and Luna would become more and more insane; they even send normal people to a mental hospital. These days here, I've been thinking, if I had exposed his unethical behavior back then, would none of this have happened?"
Evelyn's words made Adeline bite her lip hard; she was at a loss for words.
Evelyn took a deep breath, turned, and handed a small black object to Adeline. "I found this little thing on the ground earlier; it seems to be a recorder, is it yours?"
Adeline looked at the object in her hand and recalled for a long time before remembering. Wasn't it the thing Bennett threw to her through the window that day? At the time, she thought it was a communicator and talked to it for a long time. It turned out to be a recorder?
Adeline helplessly put the thing away.
She didn't think Bennett would throw her a recorder in that situation. Maybe it just looked the same, and he grabbed the wrong one? Even if Bennett had lost his memory, he was still as sloppy as before.
After handing the thing to Adeline, Evelyn took a deep breath and looked up at Jasper and Adeline. "I know Scott has been frantically looking for me these days. Let him come here. I'll make him admit his mistakes and publicly reveal the truth about your and Luna's conditions."
Adeline pursed her lips, though she thought it was a good idea.
Adeline looked up at Evelyn. "Can you really make him confess?"
Evelyn nodded heavily. "He cares about me the most in his life. Back then, because of his age, my parents separated us. Later, I got married, yet he remained single, waiting for me all along. I am the beginning of all his sins; let me end it."
Adeline pursed her lips, looked deeply at Evelyn again, and finally nodded slowly. "Okay."
After saying goodbye to Evelyn, Adeline left the room, pressing the play button on the small recorder and putting it in her ear as she walked.
The recorder played her voice from that night.
"Mr. Foster, I'm innocent! I really didn't order anyone to smash Adeline's finger; she broke it herself!" Outside, Gary knelt on the ground, looking at Jasper with a face full of grievance. "Don't be fooled by Adeline; she's just a mentally unstable person. How can you believe her? Everyone here can testify for me!"
Jasper squinted his eyes. "Everyone here is your people, and you want them to testify?"
Gary lay on the ground, a hint of smugness in his eyes. But when he looked up, he still had a face full of grievance. "But you have no evidence to prove that we smashed her finger! Without evidence, punishing me is unfair!"
Seeing Gary like this, Adeline frowned and was about to say something when a strange sound came from the earphones.
She squinted her eyes and walked over quickly. "Who said there's no evidence?"
