Chapter 246 Did He Misunderstand Her?
Adeline grabbed a tissue and fiercely wiped the tears from her face, her voice tinged with sobs. "I don't care what they say at all."
Helen and Daniel had misunderstood her for a long time.
"I just..." She sniffled, lifting her head to keep the tears from falling. "I just miss my mom."
Jasper stiffened his body slightly.
He frowned, turning to look at her. "Miss your mom?"
"Yeah." Adeline nodded. "Every time I got sick, my mom would make soup for me. She said it was good for the body, and drinking more would help me recover faster. When I was a kid, I didn't like it, but she would always coax me to drink it. Later, I grew up and couldn't do without that taste."
She took a long breath. "The soup Stella gave me reminded me of the past. So I couldn't hold back and shed a few tears. Sorry to disturb you."
Jasper frowned, his unfathomable eyes fixed on Adeline's face, seemingly trying to discern whether her words were true.
Adeline took a deep breath, put the tissue box aside, and then looked up at Jasper. "Forget it. Let's not talk about this. Didn't you just say you had business to discuss with me? Then go ahead."
Jasper furrowed his brows slightly.
Adeline was clearly asking him to leave.
She should know that he said he had business to discuss with her just as an excuse to decline Stella's invitation.
But Adeline's current attitude was clear. If he had the business, she was willing to talk. If not, he should leave.
However, he did indeed have some business to discuss with Adeline.
"The Torres Group and that online hacker stopped attacking the Foster Group since yesterday. Does this have anything to do with you?" Jasper asked.
Adeline paused.
It would have been better if he hadn't mentioned it. Now that he did, Adeline remembered she had something to tell him.
So, Adeline took a deep breath. "Can you go to Willowcrest Terrace? I have something to discuss with you."
The materials Brandon had sent her were all stored on her laptop.
When she went home yesterday morning, she had left her laptop in that small apartment.
Jasper glanced lightly at her pale face. "Are you in the condition to be discharged?"
Adeline replied, "I'm fine."
Adeline smiled at him. "I've had the soup and the IV drip. I won't faint."
When she smiled, her eyes curved, carrying a natural gentleness.
Jasper was momentarily lost in thought.
For some reason, every time he saw Adeline's smiling eyes, he would think of Adeline Collins from six years ago.
Back then, the gentle light in Adeline's eyes always softened his heart, making him want to hold her in his arms.
But now, Stella's character seemed to have changed.
Her eyes no longer had the gentleness of those years.
Seeing Jasper staring at her in a daze, Adeline frowned and spoke again, "Mr. Foster, can we go now?"
Jasper then shook off his reverie and returned to his senses.
Jasper nodded, got up, and went next door to call the nurse.
The nurse helped Adeline all the way to the car downstairs.
Sitting in the driver's seat, Ryan glanced at Adeline in the back seat, who still didn't look well. "Don't you want to rest a bit more?"
Adeline shook his head, got into the back seat, and leaned back, closing his eyes.
Sitting beside her, Jasper glanced at her lightly. "Drive."
Ryan quickly started the car.
The journey from the hospital to Willowcrest Terrace wasn't short.
Adeline leaned back in the car seat, closing her eyes, her head feeling heavy.
By the time Ryan parked the car at Willowcrest Terrace, Adeline was already asleep.
"Mr. Foster." Ryan lowered his voice, "Should we wake her up?"
Sitting in the back seat, Jasper silently looked at the frail and haggard Adeline beside him and sighed deeply. "Let her sleep a bit more."
After saying this, he hesitated for a moment, then took off his coat and covered her with it.
Time passed minute by minute.
By the time Adeline woke up, the sun was already setting.
The scent of Jasper lingered in the air, and the sound of fingers tapping on a keyboard echoed in her ears.
She frowned, struggling to open her eyes.
What met her gaze was Jasper's sharp, angular profile.
He was holding a laptop, working intently.
Jasper's brows were sharp, his eyelashes long, and his lips perfectly shaped.
Adeline had to admit even if he was a douchebag, he was a handsome and charming douchebag.
No wonder Stella was willing to give up her past, pretending to be her former self, to win his favor.
Just as she was staring at him, Jasper lightly curved his lips. "Do I look good?"
The sudden and magnetic male voice startled Adeline.
When she came to her senses, the cold and aloof Jasper had already turned his head, looking at her indifferently. "Had enough sleep?"
Adeline was momentarily dazed, then couldn't help but nod. "Yes."
"Four hours." Jasper glanced at the steel watch on his wrist, his thin lips curving into a mocking smile. "You are really a good sleeper."
Saying this, he closed his laptop. "Didn't you say you had something to discuss with me at Willowcrest Terrace?"
Adeline's mind paused for a moment before she remembered that she had fallen asleep on the way to Willowcrest Terrace with him.
Taking a deep breath, she got up from her seat.
The coat on her body slipped to the ground.
Adeline then realized that the coat covering her was Jasper's.
Jasper glanced at the coat on the ground, his dark brows raised.
Before he could speak, Adeline quickly picked up the coat. "I'll wash it and return it to you."
After saying this, she hurriedly got out of the car with the coat.
Watching her somewhat flustered back, Jasper chuckled softly, then got out of the car.
The two of them took the elevator upstairs together.
Adeline stood in front, holding Jasper's coat, while Jasper stood behind.
Even with her back to him, Adeline could feel Jasper's sharp gaze on her back.
So she straightened her back.
The air in the elevator was suffocatingly silent.
Fortunately, the suffocating silence didn't last long.
Soon, the elevator reached their floor.
"Adeline?" As soon as the elevator doors opened, Sebastian's shocked voice sounded outside.
Adeline instinctively looked up.
At the elevator door, Sebastian was looking at her in shock. "Weren't you in Las Vegas? How did you get back so quickly?"
Adeline was also a bit surprised. "When did you come back?"
The night she was kidnapped, Sebastian had taken care of her until dawn.
She had wanted Sebastian to come back to Denver with them, but he said he had some matters to handle in Las Vegas, so he stayed behind.
But just one day later, he was already in Denver.
"I came back this morning." Sebastian coughed lightly. "What about you? Why did you come back so quickly? I heard Linda had an accident. I thought you'd stay in Las Vegas for a few more days."
Adeline paused and instinctively glanced back at the elevator.
Jasper was still standing behind her with a dark expression.
She didn't say much, just smiled. "The company is busy, so I came back first."
Sebastian then noticed Jasper behind her.
He paused. "If you're busy, we can talk later."
After that, Sebastian walked past her and into the elevator.
The elevator doors closed.
Watching the elevator leave, Jasper's brows furrowed slightly. "After you and he separated in Las Vegas, haven't you been in touch?"
Adeline looked at him inexplicably, turned around, and took out her key to open the door. "Didn't you hear?"
Jasper narrowed his dark eyes.
'So, Adeline has yet to chat with Sebastian all night? Did I misunderstand her?' Jasper thought.
