Chapter 406 No Need for Further Treatment
Adeline squinted and shot a look at Luna, who was lounging on the sofa, looking all rosy-cheeked.
Yesterday, Jasper had rushed Luna to the hospital, claiming Anne had burned her and she needed a check-up.
Today, Luna was up to her tricks again, slipping powdered vitamins into her cup to stir up some drama.
Even with all the misunderstandings flying around, no one laid a finger on Luna. Not a single touch.
Adeline thought, "And yet, Jasper's still hell-bent on taking Luna to the hospital. How precious is she to him?"
Luna was all emotional and misunderstood, so she needed a hospital trip? Seriously?
Thinking about it, the cut on Adeline's arm from her art supplies started throbbing again. She'd totally forgotten to bandage it.
She clutched her arm, staying quiet.
Jasper noticed everything. He squinted and turned to Luna. "Luna."
Luna finally put down her cup and stood up with a smile. "Jasper, you go ahead. I'll head to the hospital myself."
Wearing a white linen dress, Luna stopped next to Adeline.
Even though Luna knew Adeline was in pain, she still grabbed the back of Adeline's hand, pressing it into the wound.
"Ms. Wilson, I'm sorry for what I did before. I won't make you mad again, so please don't make things hard for me," Luna said, her fingers digging in.
Adeline, breaking out in a cold sweat from the pain, gritted her teeth and glared at Luna. "Ms. Jones, you think pointing out your mistakes is making things hard for you?"
Luna smiled, letting go, a smug look in her eyes. "I already said today's mess was my bad, Ms. Wilson. Why bring it up again?"
She turned to Jasper. "Jasper, you should talk to Ms. Wilson. Don't treat her badly just because she's been tough on me."
"Ms. Wilson is just doing her job, pointing out my mistakes for the company's good. Don't make things hard for her."
With that, Luna walked away.
Adeline stood there, biting her lip, watching Luna leave.
Luna seemed all sweet and kind, but every word she said was dripping with sarcasm.
After Luna left, Ryan put down his documents and left too, thoughtfully closing the door behind him.
Now, it was just Adeline and Jasper in the room.
Jasper glanced at Adeline's hand on her arm. Blood was seeping through her clothes, staining her white chiffon shirt.
Jasper sighed, grabbing the first aid kit. "Sit."
Adeline looked at the kit, then down at her arm.
The cut had happened when Jasper bumped into her, causing her to get sliced by her art tools.
It wasn't a big or deep cut, but it had been aching.
But when Luna grabbed her hand, she pushed Adeline's fingers into the wound, making it bleed more and hurt worse.
Adeline curled her lips, glaring at Jasper. "Mr. Foster, why the act? This wound's your doing, so why play the nice guy now?"
Jasper frowned. "I didn't mean to."
He opened the first aid kit. "It was urgent. I was rushing to check on Luna and accidentally bumped into you."
Adeline laughed.
If she remembered right, when Jasper came to her office, Luna was crying, but no one was targeting her.
Adeline thought, 'Is that really an emergency? So urgent that Jasper couldn't even see me standing right there?'
She found it pretty funny.
Adeline laughed mockingly, staring at Jasper. "If Luna's so precious, you should put her in a glass case and have people carry her around so she won't get bumped or touched."
Jasper's hand, holding the disinfectant, paused for a second.
He looked up, coldly staring at Adeline. "You don't have to be so harsh."
"Luna means a lot to me; it's only right I value her," Jasper said, pointing to the spot next to him. "Come over here. Sit down."
Jasper thought, 'Adeline's lost so much blood, it must hurt. Is she so focused on confronting me that she doesn't even care about the pain?'
Adeline didn't budge. "Didn't you say that since the incident six years ago, we have nothing to do with each other?"
"Since we're just in a boss-employee relationship now, why would a boss treat an employee's wound?"
She looked coldly at Jasper. "You didn't call me over just to treat my wound, did you?"
"Whatever you have to say, just say it. Make it quick, I'm busy too."
Adeline's cold attitude made Jasper uncomfortable.
He frowned, staring at her. "Do you have to treat me like this?"
"This is how you treat a boss," Adeline sneered. "Got a problem with that?"
Jasper squinted, a cold glint in his eyes.
After a moment, he let go of the first aid kit and sat on the sofa, scrutinizing Adeline.
"I called you over to make something clear. Luna is my girlfriend; she's mine."
"She came to the company because she was bored at home and chose the design department because she's into jewelry design."
Jasper's voice was calm.
"She's not in great health, and too much stress can make her uncomfortable. She came to the company just to experience life."
"So, I made an exception for her. She doesn't have to follow the company's rules. She can be late, leave early, and do things others can't."
He looked up, his gaze falling on Adeline's face. "Do you get what I'm saying?"
Adeline took a deep breath.
Jasper had always been a jerk in relationships, but she knew he was a man of principles.
At least, in the company, he never let anyone bend the rules.
But she didn't expect Luna could make him throw all that out the window.
"Hearing this from you is truly unexpected," Adeline said.
"I didn't expect it either," Jasper replied, looking seriously at Adeline.
"I called you over to make this clear."
"And I hope you can manage your people, not just your assistant, but everyone in the design department."
"They can't afford to piss off Luna."
He glanced coldly at Adeline's pale face. "You might not be able to afford it either."
Adeline bit her lip, looking bitterly at Jasper. "Is she so special that she's worth you giving up your principles?"
Jasper nodded indifferently. "Yes."
"So, Adeline, manage your people. If anything happens to Luna again..."
He squinted. "I'll cut off all your financial sources."
Adeline's heart skipped a beat. "You wouldn't dare!"
Jasper sneered. "If Luna's emotional turmoil is because of you and it affects her health, Blake's illness won't need treatment anymore."
Adeline stood there, incredulous.
"To make Luna happy, you're actually using Blake's life to threaten me?"
Jasper leaned back on the sofa, looking at her lazily. "Yes, so what?"
