Chapter 550 Scott Had a Car Accident
Jasper squinted his eyes a bit.
He put his phone down and looked over at Adeline. "Luna's diagnosis is in. Wanna come hear it?"
Adeline paused for a second, then smiled. "Sure."
She got out of the car and headed towards the hospital. "How could I miss Mr. Foster's beloved taking a tumble?"
Jasper stayed put, watching Adeline walk away, a bitter smile on his face.
They both walked into the hospital, heading up to the 18th floor where Luna was being checked out.
Adeline figured she'd see a down-and-out Luna and a bunch of doctors who had already figured things out.
But when they walked into the room, Luna was sitting pretty on the bed, munching on some fruit. The doctors were all sitting around, looking confused and helpless.
Adeline frowned, feeling like something was off.
Jasper walked in, frowning too.
The head doctor quickly stood up to greet him. "Mr. Foster."
Jasper gave the doctor a cold look. "Talk."
"Well," the doctor cleared his throat, "we compared Luna's symptoms with the medical certificate from Dr. Smith. Turns out, her symptoms match what he said. So, we believe Luna has this weird disease that messes with her health because of her emotions. And she's got less than eleven months left."
Jasper's brows knitted together, his voice icy. "So, you're saying after all this time, you just confirmed what Dr. Smith said?"
The head doctor was quiet for a moment, then nodded. "Yes."
Seeing Jasper's face darken, the doctor coughed and looked down. "Mr. Foster, please don't blame us. Luna was diagnosed by Dr. Smith, and you know his reputation. In over forty years, he's never been wrong. If he says it's terminal, then it is."
Listening to the doctor, Adeline glanced at Luna.
Luna was sitting there, eating an orange, looking totally chill.
Adeline narrowed her eyes, a cold smile on her lips. No wonder Luna was so confident. These doctors wouldn't dare challenge Scott, let alone overturn his diagnosis!
Jasper glared at the doctor. "So if Dr. Smith says it's right, it's right?"
The doctor nodded nervously. "Pretty much. Dr. Smith is an authority. Questioning him is like questioning the whole medical field."
As the doctor wrapped up, Luna gave Jasper a gentle smile. "Jasper, don't be too hard on these doctors. If you think I'm faking it, why not just get Dr. Smith to check me out again?"
She hopped off the bed, walked over to Jasper with a smile, and lightly shook his arm. "Why consult so many doctors? With all these opinions, even I almost started to doubt myself."
Jasper's brows furrowed slightly as he pulled her arm away, his voice cold. "Do you really think Dr. Smith's certificate gives you a free pass?"
Luna smiled softly, blinking her innocent eyes at him. "I don't, Jasper. I actually cooperated with these doctors. They all say Dr. Smith's diagnosis is spot on, which is out of my hands."
Seeing Luna's confident demeanor, Adeline frowned. It seemed like the only way to get Luna to admit she was faking it was to have Scott himself overturn his diagnosis.
Thinking of this, Adeline checked the time. It had been a while since they left the mental hospital.
By now, Scott should have already arrived and talked with Evelyn for a while.
Suddenly, Adeline's phone rang. It was Evelyn. She quickly answered.
On the other end, Evelyn wiped her tears and spoke calmly from the ward. "Adeline, Scott has left. I made it clear to him that if he doesn't own up to his mistakes, I'll never leave this ward. He felt really bad and promised to come find you. He should be there soon."
Evelyn smiled with relief. "Adeline, thank you. And thanks to your kids too. After talking with Blake and Lauren, I was really moved. I'm over fifty, yet I still hesitate to face certain things, not even as brave as two six-year-olds."
Listening to Evelyn, Adeline sighed. "Evelyn, don't say that. I should be the one thanking you for helping."
Luna was feeling smug because these doctors wouldn't challenge Scott's authority. If Scott admitted he made a mistake, it would really help Adeline out!
Evelyn said, "As long as I can help you even a bit, I'm at ease."
Adeline was about to say something when another call from an unknown number came in. She quickly ended the call with Evelyn and answered the new one.
"Adeline." A weak, elderly man's voice came through. "Come find me, quickly."
The call abruptly ended.
Adeline furrowed her brows in shock. Who was that? She quickly redialed, but the phone was off.
While Adeline was puzzled, Jasper's phone rang. "Mr. Foster, Scott was in a car accident. It's very serious. Do you want to come and see?"
