Chapter 555 I Didn't Expect You to Arrive So Soon
At first, Adeline thought she was hearing things. But the knocking kept going. She tilted her head, listening closely, and realized it wasn't just her imagination. The sound was coming from under the sofa!
Adeline looked up and saw Jasper's confused expression. He heard it too.
They exchanged a quick glance and got to work moving the sofa aside.
Underneath, they found a hidden door leading to a basement!
The knocking was coming from down there!
Jasper pried open the lock and swung the door open. He stepped into the basement and turned back to Adeline, holding out his arms. "Come on down."
Without a second thought, Adeline jumped into his arms. They hugged tightly.
In the cramped space, their breaths and heartbeats mingled.
The temperature rose, and Adeline's face turned embarrassingly red.
She cursed herself for being so weak. How long had she known Jasper? They had three kids together! Yet, even a brief touch still made her blush and her heart race. But with the urgent situation, Adeline couldn't dwell on it.
With the light from their phones, they slowly made their way toward the source of the tapping.
Finally, at the end of the basement, they found Lily, Lauren, and several bodyguards and staff members tied up.
The knocking was Lauren directing everyone to hit the basement floor with stones! They were gagged and couldn't make any noise, so they had to do something to get attention!
Seeing Adeline and Jasper, Lauren's tears fell as she struggled and cried.
Adeline's heart ached, and she rushed forward. She hugged Lauren and pulled the cloth from her mouth. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine!" Lauren took a deep breath, her forehead covered in sweat. "Mommy, go save Blake! Blake was taken to the mountain by Luna!"
Adeline felt a chill run down her spine.
When she first came in, she noticed that only Lily and Lauren were there, but no Blake!
She wanted to ask Lauren if Blake had gone outside to send a message. After all, Blake was the calmest and smartest of her three kids. But now Lauren said Blake was taken by Luna!
Adeline bit her lip, trying to keep her worry in check.
Lauren said, "Luna brought some tall guys here, saying they were going to kill us and that they were here for Blake. To keep her calm, Blake offered to go with her and asked her not to hurt us. At first, Luna didn't agree, but Blake convinced her. Luna had us tied up and thrown into the basement, then she left with Blake!"
After saying this, Lauren grabbed Adeline's hand and looked up at Jasper. "Daddy, Lauren has never asked you for anything. But this time, Lauren begs you to save Blake! Don't let Blake suffer because of your Luna anymore; I'm begging you!"
Lauren even started to kneel before Jasper.
Jasper was shocked and took a step back. Then he rushed forward and hugged Lauren tightly. "Do you really think Daddy is such a terrible person? Blake is also Daddy's son; Daddy would never abandon him!"
With that, Jasper let go of Lauren and stood up. "I'm heading up the mountain now."
Jasper had no clue what Luna was planning, but since she had Blake, he had to confront her!
He turned to Lauren, his eyes full of determination. "Don't worry, no matter what, I'll bring Blake back."
With that, Jasper left the basement.
"Jasper!" Adeline's voice called from behind as he climbed out.
Jasper turned around.
Adeline stood in the basement, reaching out to him. "Pull me up; I'm coming with you."
Jasper looked at her frail body.
Just a few days ago, she was too weak to walk on her own. Now she wanted to go up the mountain in this stormy weather?
Jasper was silent for a moment and didn't take her hand. "I can handle this myself."
In such harsh weather, natural disasters could easily happen; he couldn't let Adeline risk her life.
"Why do you want to go alone?" Adeline squinted, her eyes cold. "Are you going to save my Blake or your Luna?"
Jasper's eyes showed a hint of pain.
Even now, Adeline thought he cared about Luna and was going up the mountain to save her? Did Adeline not trust him at all?
Jasper looked down at Adeline again.
Her eyes were firm and clear, as if saying she didn't trust him.
"I have to go myself and find Blake personally. I don't trust anyone else." Adeline's eyes were fixed on Jasper. "If you are unwilling to pull me up and take me up the mountain, then I'll go myself."
With that, Adeline grabbed the handrail on the basement wall. Her left hand, with a broken pinky, trembled violently as she held the handrail.
Sweat appeared on Adeline's forehead. It was clear she was in pain. But she still firmly held the handrail, struggling to climb up.
The sight made Jasper's eyes darken slightly.
He took a deep breath and couldn't bear it anymore.
Jasper stepped forward, grabbed her uninjured right arm, and pulled her out of the basement.
Back on the ground, Adeline took a deep breath.
She was covered in sweat but didn't bother to rest; instead, she pulled Jasper out of the villa directly.
Following the clues Lauren had provided, they headed up the mountain.
Not far up the mountain, Adeline saw a shoe on a tree branch by the side of the path.
It was Blake's shoe!
Adeline bit her lip, knowing it was a clue left by Blake, and she quickly picked up the shoe, following Jasper up the mountain step by step.
The mountain path was steep, making it difficult to climb even in normal times, let alone in extreme weather. Several times, Adeline was almost blown off the cliff by the mud and strong wind. But each time, she managed to escape with her willpower and Jasper's help.
Soon, they supported each other and followed Blake's clues to the top of the mountain.
"I didn't expect you to come so quickly." As soon as they reached the top, Luna's cold voice echoed.
