Chapter 557 Are You Still Going to Do This?
Jasper squinted his eyes.
Luna was messing with the blade while she asked him that question, which was more of a threat than anything.
Jasper knew exactly what Luna wanted to hear.
He took a deep breath and forced a smile. "Adeline's never meant anything to me. The only reason I've been nice to her lately is that she gave birth to my three kids."
Jasper's words made Blake, who was tied to the rock, silently clench his fists.
Adeline's face went pale.
She knew Jasper was telling the truth. He never liked her; she was never in his heart. Knowing it was one thing, but hearing him say it out loud in such a cold, cruel voice was a whole different kind of pain.
Adeline took a deep breath, trying to not let it get to her. She needed to focus on Blake. But her heart still ached. She had loved Jasper for so many years. His casual words of dislike brushed off their once solemn vows. It was impossible for her heart to stay unshaken.
Jasper's words made Luna burst into laughter. She knew he was lying, but she loved seeing Adeline's look of disappointment.
Luna said, "To reward Mr. Foster's honesty, I'll give you one more."
With that, Luna slashed again. Another rope binding Blake was cut. He now had only four ropes left. His small body was already struggling under the heavy rain and strong wind.
Adeline was so anxious her eyes turned red.
Luna was really a lunatic; Adeline had no idea what to do.
She couldn't rush up, fearing Luna would cut all the remaining ropes. She couldn't ignore it either, because Luna said she'd cut one rope every hour. So, there were only four hours left to save Blake!
Adeline bit her lip hard, her voice trembling. "Luna, if you want a body, take me instead. Don't hurt Blake. He's only six years old! I'm the one who's been looking for evidence to expose you, not him!"
Saying this, Adeline took a deep breath, as if making up her mind, and she stretched out her left hand. "I remember, it was you who had someone break this finger of mine, right? Your people also said that for each day I was locked in the mental hospital, they'd break one of my fingers."
Adeline raised her head, her eyes fixed on Luna. "Your initial target was me, and it has always been me. If I'm willing to destroy my remaining nine fingers in front of you, would you let me take Blake's place?"
Adeline's words made everyone present widen their eyes.
Blake, who had been silent all this time, finally started shouting frantically, "Mommy! What are you talking about? Your hands are a designer's hands!"
The long-standing fear, timidity, and worry for Adeline finally broke the psychological defense of the six-year-old Blake. He cried as he looked at Adeline. "Mommy, I'm not afraid of dying, really not. When I was diagnosed with a terminal illness before, I was already prepared to die. Being able to get a bone marrow transplant and spend more time with you and Lauren, I'm content."
Blake's tears mixed with the rain, his voice hoarse, almost not sounding like a child's. "Maybe Bennett misses me too much, Mommy. Don't hurt yourself, and don't take my place. I really don't care that much!"
Hearing Blake's words, Adeline's heart ached even more. She couldn't stop her tears.
Adeline bit her lip, squatted down, and picked up a stone beside her. She was about to smash it against her fingers. "Luna, do we have a deal?"
Seeing Adeline and Blake like this, Luna laughed wickedly. "Alright!"
Luna was so excited she even started clapping. "If you can really destroy your nine fingers, I'll let you take his place!"
Luna stared at Adeline's hand, her eyes full of wicked amusement. "Hurry up! I've never seen anyone smash their own fingers before. And don't think you can fool me; I've studied some medicine!"
Adeline closed her eyes. Her fingers seemed to sense it, starting to send waves of pain.
This pain reminded Adeline of the time in the mental hospital when her pinky finger was smashed. That bone-deep pain, as if every cell in her body was in despair, struggling and screaming.
But now, besides satisfying Luna's perverted desires and making her happy, Adeline had no other way to save Blake.
What were fingers compared to Blake's life? In Adeline's life, the man she loved the most never loved her; he never gave her any response. However, her children, from the moment they were born, gave her the greatest warmth.
Whether it was Blake, Bennett, or Lauren, each one of them was her treasure. Not one could be missing!
Thinking of this, she gritted her teeth and directly picked up the stone, smashing it towards her fingers.
"Adeline, you're crazy!" Just as Adeline's hand was about to come down, Jasper took a step forward, grabbed her right hand, and threw the stone away.
As the stone hit the ground, Luna's knife quickly slashed at the rope.
Blake now had only three ropes left. His body suddenly dropped.
Blake nervously grabbed the remaining ropes, preventing himself from falling further.
This scene made Adeline's heart feel like it was falling off a cliff with him.
Adeline bit her lip, pushed Jasper away, and instinctively ran towards Luna. But she had barely taken a few steps when Luna placed the knife against the remaining rope. "Don't come any closer."
Adeline didn't dare to move at all. She bit her lip and knelt on the ground. "Luna, tell me what you want. As long as I can give it, I will."
Luna squinted her eyes. "What I want, you can't give."
"How about me?" Jasper took a deep breath. "Can I give it?"
Jasper's words made Luna squint her eyes, but she didn't speak.
Jasper looked at her, enunciating each word, "The reason you feel like you're at the end of your rope and can't go on is partly because we know about your faking illness, and partly because Vikram reported you abroad, right?"
Luna's body suddenly shook!
Jasper said, "If I can guarantee your safety and keep you out of jail; if I'm willing to marry you, would you still do this?"
