Chapter 515 Laxative
"Jasper, it looks like the three of them got poisoned," the family doctor said after checking out Lily and the kids. "Even if it wasn't straight-up poison, they definitely ate something that turned toxic. Their symptoms scream food poisoning."
Jasper's face twisted in confusion. Poisoned? Toxic food? How could that be? Adeline and Luna made this meal together.
Sure, Luna wasn't the best cook, but Adeline was a pro in the kitchen. How could this happen?
The doctor nodded. "That's what it looks like. I've already called an ambulance, but since we're out here in the suburbs, it might take a bit."
He glanced at the fancy spread on the table. "Were you guys just having dinner?"
Jasper nodded. "Yeah."
"I'll use this time to check the food on the table." The doctor sighed, grabbed his medical kit, and headed to the dining table. "If we can figure out the exact toxin, that'd be ideal."
Hearing this, Luna's eyes widened. They were going to check the food!
Luna bit her lip and quickly moved to grab the plate of cashew shrimp.
Just as her fingers touched the plate, the doctor stopped her. He frowned. "Luna, what are you doing?"
Luna forced a smile, hiding her panic. "You're checking the food to see why Lily's sick. No one touched this dish. I'm just trying to help you out."
Adeline, who was massaging Lauren's stomach on the sofa, shot her a cold look. "Luna, you're so thoughtful. People who know you might think you're helping the doctor. People who don't might think you're trying to get rid of evidence."
Adeline's words made Luna's face go pale.
Luna pursed her lips. "Adeline, what are you talking about?"
After a moment, Luna put the dish back and crossed her arms, glaring at Adeline. "I'm allergic to shrimp, and you've been handling this dish the whole time. If there's poison, you must've added it!"
The doctor had already started testing the cashew shrimp. He took a sample and put it into a device, which started beeping like crazy.
The loud alarm echoed through the Emerald Crest Estate.
When the beeping stopped, a name popped up on the device.
The doctor leaned in and his eyes widened. "It's actually this!"
He quickly grabbed his phone. "How long until the ambulance gets here? Hurry!"
After hanging up, he turned to Jasper. "Jasper, someone did poison the food. The poison's in the cashew shrimp. It's a poison that targets the elderly. For younger adults and kids, the effects are way milder or might not show up at all. Mild cases could be bedridden for years, severe ones could be fatal."
The doctor's words brought a sudden hush to the villa.
Jasper's face darkened immediately. So, the poison was meant for Lily!
Luna covered her mouth in shock, pretending to be horrified. "Adeline, how could you poison Grandma? Even though you said in the kitchen that Grandma used to treat you poorly, lately, she's been telling me you're a good person and that you take great care of everyone! How could you do this?"
Luna's words made Jasper's brow furrow even deeper.
He looked coldly at Adeline. "You made this dish, right?"
Adeline smirked. "Yeah, I did."
Jasper closed his eyes, his hands clenching into fists at his sides. "Luna's right. Even though Grandma didn't favor you in the past, she's been praising you a lot recently. How could you?"
Before Jasper could finish, the ambulance arrived.
Lily, Blake, and Lauren were all taken into the ambulance.
Jasper, worried, decided to go to the hospital with them.
"I'm going too," Luna said, biting her lip, tears streaming down her face. "Grandma is so old; she must be in so much pain."
Luna couldn't help but glance at Adeline. "How could you be so heartless?"
Although Luna didn't know why Lily got sick without eating that dish, she knew this was a perfect opportunity!
The process might be different, but the result was the same! Lily went to the hospital; Adeline took the blame. That was her goal tonight!
"Yeah, I don't know how she could be so ruthless," Jasper said, grabbing his coat and giving Adeline a cold look. "Someone who used to be kind and gentle has become so ugly and cold-hearted."
Adeline laughed coldly, giving him a detached look. "Jasper, the matter isn't settled yet. Why are you jumping to conclusion?"
Jasper snorted. "If not you, then Luna? She would never do such a thing! And the test results are out; it's the cashew shrimp! Luna didn't even touch it because she's allergic to shrimp! Are you still denying it?"
With that, Jasper threw Adeline's coat at her. "Put it on and come with us to the hospital! If anything happens to Grandma today, I'll hold you responsible!"
Adeline laughed coldly, took the coat, and followed them out.
"So cold," Luna shivered as soon as they stepped outside.
Jasper hesitated for a moment, then pulled Luna into his arms. "It is a bit chilly tonight."
Adeline walked behind them, watching Jasper hold Luna tightly, feeling a chill in her heart.
She tightened her coat and recalled Jasper's words. "If not you, then Luna? She would never do such a thing!"
She smirked, a cold smile forming on her lips. He trusted Luna that much and distrusted her that much?
The doctor said, "Jasper, the results are in. Fortunately, although there was poisoned food on the table, it seems Lily wasn't poisoned. She just took a laxative."
Jasper raised an eyebrow. "A laxative?"
