Chapter 489 Something Happened to Luna
After hanging up on Luna, Adeline checked the time. It was already 8:30 in the morning.
She yawned and glanced at her computer screen again. Not only had she not gotten a reply to the anonymous letter from last night, but the email she sent had vanished too.
Just like the last two times, the email was set to self-destruct after a certain period.
Adeline sighed and was about to shut down her computer when she heard a knock on the door. "Mom, are you up? Lauren and I made breakfast. Want to try it?" Blake called out.
Adeline was a bit surprised. Breakfast made by Blake and Lauren? How could she say no?
She took a deep breath, closed her computer, quickly washed her face, and followed Blake downstairs.
Lauren and Blake had made a simple breakfast: warmed toast and milk, a heart-shaped soft-boiled fried egg, and a small plate of sliced fruit.
Even though it was basic, with Blake's skillful hands and Lauren's eye for detail, it looked great and tasted even better.
In a good mood, Adeline praised the two kids while eating.
"It would be great if Bennett were here," Lauren said, enjoying the praise. "Bennett used to take care of Blake and me at home. We always thought that with Bennett around, he could handle taking care of Mom. So we never learned how to make breakfast or other delicious things."
Lauren lowered her head. "If Bennett were here, he would definitely praise me too. I could also tell Bennett that I can help him take care of Mom and Blake in the future."
Blake sighed lightly from the other side. "Dummy. I'm better now. I don't need you to take care of me anymore. I'll take good care of you."
Lauren was silent for a moment, then nodded seriously. "You're right. If Bennett comes back, I can help you take care of him and Mom."
Listening to the two kids talk about Bennett made Adeline feel uneasy.
But she couldn't tell them that Bennett might still be alive. These were just her personal speculations. What if that email was a prank? What if the child Molly had was just someone who looked a lot like Blake and Bennett?
Adeline didn't want to give the kids false hope without being sure of the facts.
"Mom?" Lauren's voice suddenly pulled Adeline out of her thoughts.
Adeline was startled and looked up at the two kids. "What's wrong?"
Lauren pouted and complained softly, "Mom, you must have something on your mind and aren't listening to what Blake and I are saying."
Adeline pursed her lips and smiled awkwardly. "You guys talk; Mom is listening now."
"Mom," Blake said, looking seriously at Adeline. "When are we leaving Radiance Springs?"
Adeline paused, about to say something when the doorbell rang.
Alice hurried to open the door, and there stood Vikram.
He had clearly just woken up, with water droplets on his face, messy hair, and a misbuttoned shirt.
When Vikram saw Adeline and the kids eating in the dining room, he let out a sigh of relief. "You're all home."
Lauren pouted. "Vikram, it's 8:30 in the morning. Of course, we're all home."
Blake glanced at him and gestured for an extra set of utensils. "Haven't eaten?"
Vikram paused and nodded, then sat down next to Adeline. "When are you leaving?" he asked while grabbing some food.
Adeline paused. Vikram was the third person to ask her that today.
She frowned and looked at him. "Didn't I tell you I have some things to handle first? I'll leave after that."
Vikram was taken aback, then smiled. "What I meant was, you could leave first; let me or Mia handle whatever it is. Is there something you can't trust us with that you have to stay here for?"
Adeline's eyes narrowed. "Did you come over early just to tell me this?"
She had already told Vikram she would leave after handling her affairs in about a week. Why was he pushing her to leave so soon, showing up with his clothes and hair all messy?
Adeline thought of Luna's call that morning. Luna had also asked when she was leaving and even prepared a private jet for her.
"Could it be that Luna is using Caroline's matter to pressure you into making me leave quickly?" Adeline asked.
Vikram cleared his throat and took a sip of milk. "No, no."
Adeline smiled but said nothing more. His denial was as good as an admission.
Adeline said, looking him in the eye, "But Vikram, I do have my own matters to handle in Radiance Springs, and it has nothing to do with Jasper or Luna. I can't leave just because Luna dislikes me and wants me gone, and you're being pressured by her."
This wasn't a small matter; it involved Bennett and Molly. Adeline couldn't just leave because of Vikram.
Vikram's expression changed instantly. He finished his milk and set the empty glass on the table.
"Actually," Vikram said, looking up at Adeline, "I know you won't change your mind because of me. But I want to help you."
Adeline raised an eyebrow. "Help me?"
"Yes," Vikram said, taking a deep breath. "I think, whatever you're doing, you need help, right? I'm not here to ask you to leave. I'm here to offer my help. If I pitch in, you can wrap up faster and get out of this mess sooner."
"And," he added, looking at her, "I can protect you. If Luna tries to do something she shouldn't, I can help you."
Adeline frowned, confused. "Luna wants to frame me?"
Vikram sighed. "This morning, Luna called me and asked me to design an accident for you, Blake, and Lauren. She thinks you're staying in Radiance Springs to compete with her for Jasper."
Adeline was about to respond when her phone rang. It was Jasper.
She frowned and answered, "Mr. Foster."
"Adeline," Jasper said, taking a deep breath, "Luna is in trouble."
