Chapter 24 Daddy Can Cook, Right?
"Molly's face paled.
She had only been thinking about finding some evidence and pinning all the blame on Adeline, but she forgot that Blue Bay not only had Adeline's signal, but also Jasper's!
“That's right,” Adeline leaned against the wall with a hint of mockery in her smile. “Although Mr. Foster's phone signals are encrypted, if just one or two leaked and happened to be monitored by you, the loss could be worth billions of dollars.”
Molly's face instantly turned even paler.
“Jasper, I... I would never sell your information! I was just... just too desperate. I wanted to find evidence against Adeline's manipulation of Lauren,” Molly stammered.
As Molly floundered in panic, Adeline's lips curled into a cold smile.
“Auntie...”
She was about to say something when the voice of Lauren came from inside the hospital room.
As soon as her daughter called out, Adeline forgot everything and immediately opened the door to the ward and went in.
After she left, there were only Jasper and Molly in the hallway.
“Jasper...” Molly softly spoke, trying to please him, “I was wrong...”
“Now is not the time to apologize,” Jasper coldly glanced at her, “Once the investigation results come out, if they align with what Adeline said and you are involved in today's incident, you know the consequences.”
After saying that, the man turned and walked quickly into the ward.
“Bang!” With a loud sound, the door to the ward closed.
Molly stood in the hallway, her chest heaving with anger as she stared at the closed door.
She thought she would succeed this time, but not only did she fail to kill that little wench, but she was also outsmarted by that damn maid!
She angrily kicked the bench with force.
“Just you wait!”
...
“Did you two have a fight outside just now?” lying on the hospital bed, the pale little girl glanced at Adeline and then at Jasper, “It was so noisy.”
“I'm sorry.” Jasper walked over, reached out, and held Lauren's hand, “It's my fault.”
“Daddy,” Lauren looked at him and managed to squeeze out a smile, “Please don't make me go out with that mean auntie again, okay? I almost died today...”
Looking at the weary state of the little girl, Jasper felt a pang in his heart, “Alright, I won't force you anymore.”
“Okay!” Lauren nodded, “Also, Auntie is a good person. She is the best person to Lauren. Daddy, please don't treat her badly, okay?”
Jasper pondered for a moment, then nodded, “Fine.”
“Thank you, Daddy.” Lauren weakly smiled and reached out her delicate little hand. She held Jasper's hand on one side and Adeline's hand on the other, gently placing their hands together. “From now on, you have to love each other and stop fighting!”
Jasper frowned and glanced at Adeline silently, without saying a word.
The man's large hand was dry and rough, sending a tremor through one's heart.
Adeline instinctively wanted to withdraw her hand, but before she could completely avoid it, Jasper's hand came over and held her hand together with Lauren's.
“I promise you.”
...
After Lauren woke up, the doctor briefly checked her and confirmed that she was okay before allowing her to go home.
Perhaps out of guilt, Jasper held onto Lauren tightly throughout the journey back from the hospital.
He even held her while having dinner, and after finishing, he personally took her to the children's room.
Although Lauren had always longed to spend time with him, his way of expressing emotions was quite overwhelming.
The little girl had never experienced anything like this before, being held in Jasper's arms constantly, except for when she went to the bathroom. She felt a bit suffocated.
“Daddy, I'm really fine,” lying on the pink bed, Lauren blinked her big eyes and looked at the man seriously. “You've been with me for a long time, it's time for you to go to work. Just let Auntie come and tell me stories!”
Jasper held the storybook and said, “I tell stories very well.”
“You're lying! I've heard them all before!” The little girl reached out and grabbed his sleeve, shaking it. “Lauren wants Auntie, Daddy, you can go and do your work.”
Upon her repeated request, Jasper reluctantly left the children's room feeling disappointed.
Outside the door, Adeline was waiting for him in the hallway.
The man opened the door, looked displeasedly at Adeline, then walked away.
Adeline shook her head helplessly and entered the room.
“Mommy.”
Lauren whispered softly as she approached Adeline. “Don't you think Daddy was unusually gentle today? It seems that he's afraid of losing us. Maybe he's afraid of losing is you too.”
Adeline gently guided the little girl back to bed and tucked her in.
“I no longer have any feelings for him. My only connection with him is the three of you.”
“So.” The woman gently stroked her daughter's head. “Don't expect Mommy to start liking him, okay?”
Lauren pursed her lips, guiltily lowering her head. “Oh.”
...
Bennett sat in a chair, watching the various people at the roadside stalls, listening to the noisy voices, feeling inexplicably excited and happy.
When they were abroad, Mommy was always busy, and the three of them stayed home every day, aside from the servants, they had no other friends.
They would occasionally go out for meals, but it was never like this, sitting at an open-air table and enjoying the lively atmosphere with so many people.
This must be what they call a festive vibe!
“I'm Tim Lewis. The one next to you is Tom Lewis. What's your name?"
Two security guards stood on either side of him. “Both of us owe our achievements today to you!”
What's my name?
Bennett frowned, “I'm Bennett.”
“Bennett?” Tim shook his head. “That name is too clunky.”
“How about we call you Blake from now on? We'll follow you in the future!”
Bennett almost spit out the orange juice in his mouth, “But I'm only six years old...”
“But you're amazing!” Tom looked at Bennett with admiration. “You can operate such difficult machines and even help us switch jobs. Many adults can't do that!”
Bennett was flattered and mystified by the praise. “Okay, then from now on, you two are my followers. Help me out at the Foster Group.”
“Good job!”
“Great! Cheers!”
The three of them raised their glasses.
Tim and Tom were drinking beer while Bennett was drinking orange juice.
Before long, Tim got drunk and slumped motionless on the table.
Tom also went to the bathroom.
Bennett looked at the people in the distance enjoying barbecue and felt an inexplicable sense of contentment.
Actually, days like this were quite good.
But it would be even better if Blake, Lauren, and mom were here.
After a while, someone sat down on his right.
He thought it was Tom returning, so without turning his head, he asked, “I really liked the story about catching the thief. Do you have any more stories?”
There was silence from the person beside him.
After a while, a deep and noble male voice softly spoke, “What kind of story do you want to hear?”
That voice!
Bennett suddenly turned his head.
The person sitting beside him was actually Jasper!"
