Chapter 725 It Is Indeed Related to the Phoebe Family

Following Dennis's instructions, Nova quickly caught up to Jasper, stretching out her small arms to block his path.

"Mr. Foster! Daddy said you can't go out!"

Nova, with her delicate and soft features, looked just like Lauren.

Jasper gazed at the little girl standing in front of him, and suddenly, he missed Lauren. It had only been a month since they parted, and he had just seen her on a video call. But now, seeing Nova, he couldn't help but recall the feeling of holding Lauren in his arms.

Nova was soft and sweet, with slender little arms and surprisingly chubby hands that were so satisfying to squeeze.

Thinking of Lauren, Jasper couldn't bring himself to be stern with Nova.

He crouched down to her eye level. "Why can't I go out?"

Nova bit her lip. "Because we can't let Mrs. Phoebe know you're staying here."

Dennis walked over, picking Nova up and smiling at Jasper.

"You should know, the Phoebe family and the Foster family have been enemies for years, with irreconcilable differences. Everyone in the Phoebe family, except Oliver, despises you. Besides, you recently caused the death of Mrs. Phoebe's daughter, Molly. What do you think would happen if she saw you?"

Jasper squinted. He hadn't considered these things. He just wanted to meet Zara, whom he had never seen before. But with Dennis's explanation, he decided not to cause trouble for Oliver.

Soon, a gentle voice of a middle-aged woman came from the front yard.

"Oliver, I made some chicken soup tonight. Please share it with Dennis, Joseph, and Nova. The weather is getting cooler, and autumn is particularly dry. Take care of your throat."

Oliver nodded as he took the thermos from Zara and instructed a servant.

"Mom, next time, just call me, and I'll come to get it. It's late, and you shouldn't have to come over yourself."

Zara sighed, gently tiptoeing to remove a leaf from Oliver's hair. "I worry about you. If that jade ring gets lost, it's no big deal. I know exactly what it looked like and its material. I've already arranged for someone to make an identical one for you. Don't stay away from home over such a small matter."

Oliver's voice was hoarse. "Mom, I'm not staying away because of that."

"I know." Zara sighed. "Ever since you found out about your mother, you've had a grudge against the Phoebe family. But I wasn't involved in what happened back then, and I couldn't help with your mother's situation. I also know you moved out because the relationship between the Phoebe family and the Foster family is getting worse. You fear staying with the Phoebe family will cause more trouble."

She added, "But... my biological daughter is gone. In my eyes, you and Daisy are both my children, no matter the blood relation. Understand?"

Zara's words made Oliver's eyes flash with reluctance.

He spoke with a hoarse voice. "Your daughter... might still be alive."

Zara waved her hand. "The people who collected the bodies brought them all back. How could she still be alive? Don't comfort me. I can't bring the dead back to life, but you and Daisy both need to be okay."

Oliver was silent for a long time before he sighed deeply and hugged Zara.

"It's too late to invite you in. Please head back early."

Zara didn't insist, just sighed softly and turned to Lorenzo Pena behind her.

"Lorenzo, bring the other thermoses from the car and take them inside."

With that, she returned to the car.

Jasper sat in the inner courtyard, listening to the voices outside, growing more curious about Mrs. Phoebe's appearance.

From her voice, she seemed like a gentle and serene woman.

How could such a person marry into the Phoebe family, a place like a den of wolves?

And how could she raise a foster daughter like Daisy and give birth to a daughter like Molly?

At that moment, the door to the inner courtyard opened.

Lorenzo carried several thermoses of soup inside, handing them to the servant at the door.

The servant fumbled, and Lorenzo frowned, helping to steady the thermoses while speaking in a raspy voice. "Be careful."

Lorenzo's voice carried a hint of hoarseness, and with it came a repulsive medicinal smell.

Jasper frowned, finding the voice familiar, and the smell even more so.

He instinctively looked up, meeting Lorenzo's gaze.

Lorenzo, wearing gold-rimmed glasses and dressed in black, was tall and thin.

He didn't seem surprised to see Jasper there. Instead, he extended a hand in greeting.

"We meet again."

Jasper's pupils dilated in shock!

He stood up. "It's you?"

It was him!

The man he encountered in the elevator when Lily was assassinated by Rex!

Lorenzo didn't avoid it. "It's me. I told you we would meet again."

With that, he turned and closed the door to the inner courtyard, leaving.

Soon, Zara's gentle voice came from outside. "Why did it take so long?"

"I saw an old acquaintance and said hello."

"What acquaintance? Do I know them?"

"Sorry, you don't."

Jasper stood there, his hands silently clenching into fists at his sides.

He thought, 'Grandma's death is indeed connected to the Phoebe family. Even if Grandma was stabbed to death by Rex, it can't be unrelated to the Phoebe family!'

After Rex was imprisoned, Jasper and the police reviewed the crime scene.

Even if Adeline was exhausted, she wouldn't have slept so deeply that she didn't react to someone being stabbed beside her.

Later, the police found traces of a sedative in the room and tiny needle marks on Lily's body.

Jasper concluded that the sedative and needle marks were related to the man in black he encountered downstairs.

But despite his efforts to review hospital and nearby surveillance footage, and various exit monitors, he never found the man in black with gold-rimmed glasses again.

He thought he would never find this man or the truth.

But he never expected that the man in black was a subordinate of Zara!
