Chapter 764 What Exactly Is the Reason

Howard lifted his gaze, his eyes dark and brooding as he stared at Jasper, his words squeezed out through clenched teeth. "I've told you a million times, it wasn't me who hurt Esther!"

Jasper sneered, "Oh really? Wasn't you?"

"Mr. Phoebe said thirty years ago it wasn't you, that you'd find out who it was."

"How many years has it been, and Mr. Phoebe still hasn't found out?"

"Is it that he can't find out, or that he can't find a scapegoat?"

"You!"

Jasper's words were sharp, provoking Howard to glare at him with wide eyes. "Jasper, you're just a kid! What do you know about what happened back then?"

"If you don't know, stay out of it!"

Facing Howard's anger, Jasper smirked, his smile growing colder, "Because I'm younger, and wasn't involved back then, I can't get involved now?"

"Then Mr. Phoebe is older, and wasn't involved in what happened between me and Adeline, so he shouldn't get involved either?"

Howard gritted his teeth, his chest heaving with rage, "Jasper!"

"Dad."

Daisy bit her lip and quickly walked over to support Howard, pouring him water and soothing his chest. "Don't get angry, don't get angry."

She shot a cold glance at Adeline, "It's all your fault! If it weren't for you, Jasper wouldn't have disguised himself to sneak into the Phoebe Mansion, and Dad wouldn't be this upset!"

After speaking, Daisy couldn't help but glare at the four bodyguards holding Jasper. "What are you standing around for? Drag him out and beat him!"

"Do you want to see my dad this angry? Do you all not want your jobs anymore?"

The four bodyguards exchanged glances, then lowered their heads and began to drag Jasper out.

"Wait."

Just as Jasper was about to be taken away, a gentle middle-aged woman's voice rang out.

Everyone turned to look.

At the doorway, a frail Zara was leaning on a cane, supported by a servant as she walked in, coughing lightly.

Seeing her, Howard quickly stood up to greet her, "Zara, why are you out here?"

"You..."

"If I didn't come out, you'd beat up the person who saved my life."

Zara sighed softly, "If it weren't for Wren Kelly coming over to inform me... I wouldn't have known what was happening here."

Zara leaned on her cane, glancing at the four bodyguards holding Jasper. "Let him go."

"Mr. Foster risked his life to gather herbs to save me, and this is how you treat him?"

At Zara's words, the four bodyguards quickly released Jasper.

Howard frowned at her, "Zara, you..."

"Howard."

Zara gave him a cool glance, her voice calm, "Mr. Foster risked his life to gather herbs to save me and was misunderstood. He was worried about me, so he came to check on me."

She looked lovingly at Dennis. "I asked Dennis to bring him in this way to see me."

"At the same time, I wanted him to explain why he used weeds to insult Dennis and Adeline."

Glancing at the evidence on the table, Zara continued with a smile, "I assume you've seen this evidence."

"The matter of Jasper insulting Dennis was just a misunderstanding."

"In fact, he saved my life."

"And I had Dennis invite him in this way to avoid drawing attention... treating him like this isn't appropriate, is it?"

Zara's words made Howard's face darken instantly.

He had been with Zara for so many years; he could tell if she was lying!

She was clearly trying to exonerate Jasper, preventing him from targeting Jasper!

Howard gritted his teeth, glaring at Jasper. Though he was seething inside, he couldn't expose Zara's lie in front of everyone.

In the end, Howard had to relent. "Since Jasper was invited by you, Zara, then there's no issue of him sneaking into the Phoebe family."

"Forget it."

Howard waved his hand, not wanting to look at Jasper any longer. "Mr. Foster, even though you were invited by Zara, I still want to tell you, the Phoebe Mansion is not a place you can come to as you please!"

"This place doesn't welcome you. If you come here uninvited next time, I won't let you off just because you saved Zara's life!"

With that, Howard stood up, "Dennis, take your Mr. Foster and leave."

"Wren, take Zara back."

Finally, he turned to look at Adeline, who had been standing in the corner, his voice cold, "Come with me."

Adeline hesitated for a moment, but eventually followed him.

Watching Adeline leave with Howard, Jasper narrowed his eyes.

Dennis quickly came over to pull him away, "Adeline has agreed to go to Swan Villa. Let's go back first."

Jasper responded indifferently and left.

Soon, only Daisy and Brandon were left in the living room.

Daisy snorted, slamming her coffee cup on the table. "Just let him go like that!"

"What else?"

Brandon sneered, "Should Howard expose Zara's lie in front of everyone?"

Originally, Jasper wouldn't have been able to leave unscathed today.

With him and Daisy fanning the flames, Howard wouldn't have let Jasper off!

But unexpectedly, Zara had intervened!

He narrowed his eyes, recalling Zara's words in the cabin about wanting Adeline to leave the Phoebe Mansion.

Brandon's grip on his coffee cup tightened, his knuckles turning white.

He narrowed his eyes, looking into the distance, "Zara is too much of a troublemaker."

Daisy rolled her eyes, "Exactly."

"If it weren't for Jasper and Dennis causing trouble, Zara would probably be dead by now."

The poison she had given Zara was something even Zara didn't know how to cure.

But neither she nor Brandon had anticipated that Dennis, that bastard, would actually manage to develop an antidote.

Daisy turned to look at Brandon, "Should I give her a different poison?"

"No more poison."

Brandon narrowed his eyes, "Too much poison, and it'll be discovered eventually."

"This time, we'll use a different method."

Howard led Adeline to the Phoebe Mansion's ancestral hall.

Howard turned to her coldly. "Bow."

Adeline was silent for a moment, then finally bowed.

Howard sighed, bowing to the Phoebe family ancestors as he spoke heavily. "I know you still have feelings for Jasper."

"You might not understand why I hate the Foster family so much."

"Today..."

He closed his eyes with a bitter smile, "I'll tell you why."
