Chapter 632 How Could She Possibly Find Out?

Jasper's hand froze mid-air, phone in hand.

He glanced up at Adeline. "Scarlett's in trouble."

Adeline felt like she turned to stone.

Scarlett in trouble? But she seemed perfectly fine before she left.

Suddenly, a memory of Scarlett drinking fish soup flashed in Adeline's mind.

If she remembered right, Molly had the servant bring that bowl of fish soup for her.

But Scarlett, thinking Molly was being nice, drank it instead.

Adeline broke out in a cold sweat just thinking about it.

If she had drunk that soup herself, who knows what would've happened!

Jasper put down the phone and looked at Adeline. "I had the driver take her to the hospital where Bennett and Sebastian are. Can you go check on her for me?"

Adeline hesitated, then quickly nodded. "Okay."

She got up to leave in a hurry.

Just as her fingers touched the doorknob, she heard Jasper rummaging behind her. "Wait a sec."

She turned back, and Jasper handed her something.

It was Lily's medical record, the one he'd been looking at all morning.

"Take this to Dr. Reed."

Adeline nodded, took the folder, and left.

In the taxi to the hospital, her mind was racing.

The driver had just said on the phone that Scarlett might not even make it to the hospital.

If it was because of that fish soup...

A chill ran down Adeline's spine.

Thank goodness Jasper was smart enough to send the kids away before Molly moved in.

One bowl of fish soup almost killed Scarlett.

If the kids had been home, Molly's cooking could've turned Blue Bay into a graveyard!

The more Adeline thought about it, the more terrified she felt.

Soon, the car pulled up at the hospital.

Following the address the driver gave her, Adeline rushed to the first-floor emergency room.

When she got there, Scarlett, barely conscious, was being wheeled out.

Adeline hurried over. "Doctor, how is Scarlett?"

The doctor looked at her. "Are you her friend?"

Adeline nodded.

The doctor sighed and led her into her office.

Adeline noticed the name "Sharon Reed" on the door.

She paused, then quickly followed and handed over the file.

"So you're Dr. Reed. This is from Jasper, the president of the Foster Group."

Sharon glanced at it, took the medical record, and while flipping through it, said, "Your friend Scarlett's in pretty bad shape. She's been poisoned."

Adeline felt like her blood turned to ice.

So it was the fish soup.

"But the person who poisoned her didn't mean to kill her," Sharon continued, still looking at the record.

"The poison was in small doses, not enough to cause immediate symptoms, but it builds up. Once it hits a certain level, it triggers a reaction, leading to inevitable death that even the best doctors can't fix."

Sharon spread out Lily's medical record. "Just like this patient, even the best doctors can only keep the illness at bay. Once it relapses, all the symptoms will flare up and take the person's life."

Adeline was stunned for a moment before she hoarsely asked, "So the poison Scarlett ingested is the same as Lily's?"

Sharon sighed, "Scarlett's situation was a bit of a fluke. She ate a lot of fruit in the morning and noon, which caused a large buildup of vitamin C in her body. This sped up the poison's accumulation and made the symptoms worse, causing her to get sick right after being poisoned. But she got to the hospital in time, so she should be okay."

Sharon looked up at Adeline, "Has Scarlett pissed anyone off recently?"

Adeline didn't speak, just felt a chill down her spine. That bowl of fish soup was meant for her.

And Adeline wouldn't have eaten as much fruit as Scarlett.

So if she had drunk that soup, she wouldn't have shown any symptoms and wouldn't have suspected she was poisoned.

Over time, she would have ended up just like Lily.

"It seems Lily's relapse was also due to poisoning."

Sharon's words snapped Adeline back to reality.

She looked up at Sharon, "You mean Lily's relapse was also due to poisoning?"

Sharon looked at the medical record, her eyes deep.

"She had occasional relapses before, but they were slow and not very harmful. This time, she started showing symptoms at noon yesterday, and by evening, she almost didn't make it."

She looked up at Adeline, "Did she meet anyone special at noon yesterday?"

Adeline frowned, about to say something, but then she thought of Nathan and Brenda.

She quickly pulled up yesterday's news that clearly marked the time. Brenda and Nathan left the press conference at eleven in the morning.

Lily's medical record showed she was admitted to the hospital at twelve when Molly was still at the press conference, crying about Bennett being abused.

A chill ran from Adeline's feet to her head.

She remembered how Lily had looked this morning, pleading with Jasper to spare Rex.

No one would have thought that Nathan and Brenda would harm Lily just to reduce Rex's prison time!

How could someone treat their own mother like this for their child?

Returning from the hospital, Adeline didn't even know how to tell Jasper about this.

She knew Jasper was already disappointed in Nathan.

But she also knew Jasper still had some hope for Nathan's humanity.

If he found out that Lily might not recover and that Nathan was the culprit...

Walking along the path outside Blue Bay, Adeline felt her mind was in a fog.

"Alright, I got it."

Suddenly, Molly's voice came to her ears.

Adeline frowned and quickly hid in a corner.

In the distance, Molly was walking and talking on the phone, her voice getting closer.

"How could she possibly find out? After she dies, not just the Phoebe family, but Jasper will be mine too. What are you afraid of?"

She added, "Don't worry, six years ago I made her suspect Jasper of killing her, and six years later, I can make her die hating Jasper just the same."
