Chapter 260 Everything Will Be Resolved
Violet didn't notice Adeline's look as she poured herself a glass of water. "You know, Jasper can be pretty unpredictable sometimes," she said, taking a sip.
"When the video blew up online, the Foster Group quickly put out a statement saying it was all fake."
"Right after that, Jasper called me. He said you must be feeling awful and asked me to comfort you."
"He even suggested I bring Bennett and Lauren over."
Violet finished her explanation with a click of her tongue. "If I didn't know he was the jerk who put you in this mess, I might've thought he was a decent guy."
Adeline's hands clenched into fists.
After a moment, she stood up and walked to the balcony.
The spot where the Maserati had been parked was now empty.
Adeline tapped her forehead in frustration.
Jasper must think she's nuts, planning a surprise for her and getting turned down even for coming upstairs.
The balcony wind was chilly.
Feeling the night breeze, Adeline took out her phone and called Jasper.
"Calling to thank me?" Jasper's indifferent voice came through when he picked up.
Adeline stayed silent for a moment, then sighed, "Why didn't you tell me? I thought you..."
"Thought I wanted to do something inappropriate?" Jasper's voice had a hint of amusement. "It's rare for Miss Wilson to think so deeply in such a tough situation."
Jasper's words felt like a slap to Adeline's face, making her cheeks burn.
She sniffed, not wanting to drag out the awkward conversation. "We haven't started dinner yet. Are you coming?"
There was a pause on the other end.
After a moment, Jasper chuckled softly, "I gave you a chance to invite me earlier, and you didn't take it."
"I'm on my way to see Helen. Stella's waiting for me at the hospital."
Adeline pursed her lips. "Okay."
Just before ending the call, she took a deep breath. "Thank you."
Despite everything, his willingness to defy the Foster family elders and bring Bennett and Lauren to her in such a tough time was commendable.
"Feel better. Things will work out." Jasper's voice was so soft that Adeline almost thought she misheard.
She tilted her head. "What did you say?"
"Nothing." Then, the only sound left was the busy tone.
Adeline furrowed her brows, a bit confused, and ended the call.
Back in the dining room, Bennett and Lauren had already eaten a third of their food.
Seeing her, the two little ones smiled and said, "Mama, come eat! Violet's cooking is amazing!"
Ethan and Violet also smiled at her. "Come on, eat."
Adeline sat down and looked at the four people around her.
Her dearest friend and beloved children were all by her side.
She shouldn't be so downhearted after all.
Thinking this, Adeline took a deep breath, picked up a bowl from the table, and started eating heartily.
Even though Sebastian had cooked a delicious meal at noon, she hadn't eaten much then.
This meal could count as her first proper meal of the day.
Seeing Adeline eating so seriously, Bennett and Lauren exchanged a glance, both of them smiling.
After the meal, Adeline thought of clearing the table, but Violet and Ethan stopped her.
Violet pushed her toward the bedroom. "You shouldn't do anything or think about anything. Just get some good sleep!"
Adeline was about to say she could wash the dishes, but Ethan pulled Violet into his arms. "I want to wash the dishes lovingly with Violet in your kitchen. Don't be a spoilsport."
In shock, Adeline watched as Ethan pulled Violet away.
"Mama, don't look."
It wasn't until the two had disappeared from view that Bennett's amused voice reached Adeline's ears.
Adeline paused slightly, then subconsciously lowered her head.
Bennett and Lauren had changed into their pajamas, each holding a small pillow, standing at her door. "We want to sleep with you tonight."
Lauren yawned. "It's been so long since we slept with you; I miss it!"
Bennett smiled gently. "Yeah. You've been too busy to chat with us recently. Tonight, we can make up for it together!"
Hearing the conversation between the two children, Adeline's heart softened.
She squatted down and gently pinched Bennett's nose. "You two little rascals."
Then, she lifted Lauren and got into bed; the three of them squeezed onto the small bed, looking up at the ceiling together.
"Mama, do you really not want Grandpa to go to jail?"
After turning off the lights, Bennett's voice sounded softly in the darkness.
Adeline pursed her lips, remained silent for a while, then sighed lightly. "He is still my father."
"But Jasper is also our dad." Bennett sighed. "Mama, you've always told us to be ruthless because Jasper treats us badly."
"But now, when Grandpa, who has always been unkind to you, is in trouble, you can't bear it."
Finishing, Bennett pursed his lips. "Mama, you can't have double standards."
Adeline paused, then smiled wryly.
He was right. Everything Bennett said was true.
She had always taught the three children to keep their distance from Jasper.
But now, when her parents were in trouble, she couldn't keep that distance.
After a long silence, Adeline took a deep breath. "This is the last time."
"But..." Lauren pouted. "You said it was the last time when you helped Grandma find Molly."
Adeline rubbed her forehead helplessly.
Kids had such good memories.
She sighed. "Last time was helping your grandmother. This time, it's helping your grandfather."
Really. It was the last time.
After this incident, if Daniel and Helen continued to be stubborn and make mistakes, she would no longer protect them.
"Mama, have you really made your decision?"
Suddenly, a clear child's voice came from the necklace pendant Adeline had placed on the bedside table.
Adeline paused, realizing that Blake had been eavesdropping on their conversation.
She bit her lip and nodded seriously. "Yes. It is the last time."
"Alright." There was no emotion in Blake's voice on the phone. "Have a good sleep. Everything will be resolved when you wake up tomorrow morning."
