Chapter 26 It Must Be That Little Brat Causing Trouble
A tall figure appeared at the doorway.
As soon as Jasper opened the door, he saw the woman sitting on the ladder.
The woman sat on the chair with a photo album on her lap, looking at its contents.
She was wearing a light yellow nightgown, with her long curly hair lazily cascading down to her waist, accentuating her slender figure.
Under the light, her casually dangling legs were seductive and enchanting, but her fair feet were clad in the same cartoon plush slippers as Lauren's.
The man paused for a moment.
This woman stayed awake in the middle of the night, assuming such a pose in his study, was she trying to seduce him?
She almost lost her life today, but she still has this kind of intention at night!
Thinking of this, the man's face turned cold as he strode over and asked, "What are you doing?"
Adeline was already somewhat unstable sitting on the ladder and lost in thought while looking at the album. Startled by his sudden question, she trembled, and the album in her hand almost fell.
In that instant, she quickly reached out to grab the album, but her body became weightless and she ended up in mid-air.
Jasper furrowed his brows and instinctively reached out his arm to catch her.
Both of them ended up falling on the floor.
Adeline hadn't expected Jasper to suddenly appear, let alone to reach out and save her when she fell.
The woman looked at the man beneath her in astonishment.
This was the first time she had observed Jasper so closely since her return.
His facial features were still cold and refined, but compared to five years ago, he had become even more rugged and masculine.
She looked at him, momentarily lost in her thoughts.
Jasper lay on the ground, the fragrance from the woman on top of him invading his nostrils, causing his thoughts to briefly become chaotic.
After a while, the man's deep voice sounded cold and indifferent, "Aren't you going to get up?"
Adeline was stunned for a moment before she blushed and quickly crawled off him.
After getting up from him, she hurriedly picked up the album from the side.
Jasper sat up and frowned slightly as he watched her carefully holding the album, "What were you just doing?"
Being questioned by the man, Adeline panicked for a moment but quickly composed herself.
Tightening her hold on the album, she smiled at him and said, "Today, the servant mentioned that there was an album of your former wife's in the attic. When Lauren heard about it, she wanted to see it, so while she was asleep, I came here to look for it."
Her explanation was flawless.
Jasper furrowed his brows lightly and reached out his hand towards her.
Adeline handed him the album.
He browsed through it and found out that it really belonged to Adeline.
"I never knew that there was her album in the attic of the study."
Adeline smirked mockingly and said, "It's been so many years since your ex-wife left. It's normal for you to forget where she left her things."
After saying that, she reached out to grab the edge of the album, "Mr. Foster, it's getting late. I need to rest."
Jasper frowned and pulled her hand away, "Tomorrow, I'll personally give the album to Lauren."
Since he had said so, Adeline couldn't continue to argue.
Respectfully bidding him goodnight, she breathed a sigh of relief as she turned around and left.
He probably didn't notice anything unusual. Standing in place, Jasper watched her depart, his eyes deep and profound.
That night, the light in the study stayed on.
Sitting in his chair, Jasper looked at the woman in the photos, page by page. Sometimes she appeared youthful and beautiful, sometimes enchanting and alluring, and sometimes cool and arrogant.
Looking at Adeline in the photos, Jasper discovered for the first time that this woman had so many emotions. But in his impression, she had always been gentle and composed, silently so.
Even in death, she was silent...
He looked at them for a long, long time, and eventually let out a heavy sigh.
"Adeline."
The man used his fingertip to trace the woman's face in the album, "If you were here, how would you handle Molly in today's situation?"
Molly had always been the person Adeline cherished and couldn't let go of.
Even though they weren't born to the same mother, Adeline and Molly were closer than real sisters over the years.
When she moved from Cheyenne to Denver, she specifically brought Molly with her, settling her in Denver and even making Molly his personal secretary.
The man closed his eyes.
Today, all fingers were pointing at Molly, he wasn't blind to that.
But Molly was still the sister Adeline cared about the most. When she left him, she didn't mention him in her farewell letter, but she made a special request for him to take good care of Molly.
In the darkness, the man opened his eyes, revealing pain and struggle within.
...
The next day.
"Auntie..." Upon waking up, Lauren quickly grabbed onto Adeline's clothes, her watery eyes filled with anticipation. "You promised yesterday."
Adeline hesitated for a moment, intending to explain the whereabouts of the photo album when the door to the children's room swung open.
Jasper, dressed in gray pajamas, stood at the doorway. "Lauren, come with me."
Instinctively, Lauren took a step back and turned to look at Adeline.
"Go ahead."
Adeline squatted down and tidied up the little girl's clothes, "Your mom's photo album is in your dad's hands."
With that, Lauren pressed her lips together and followed Jasper to the study.
"Wow!"
On the study sofa, the little girl held a photo album that was a whole size larger than her face, flipping through its pages one by one.
Previously, she had only seen wedding photos of Adeline and Jasper, where Adeline always had the same expression. But this album was completely different!
The little girl couldn't help but exclaim, "So, she used to look so beautiful!"
Her words made Jasper furrow his brows slightly, "Isn't your mommy still like that now?"
"No!" Lauren excitedly replied, "Mommy always says she used to be very pretty, but I didn't believe it. She really was this beautiful!"
The man paused.
After a while, his deep voice rang low, "Then what does your mommy look like now?"
