Chapter 673 Did He Really Not Participate
Jasper stared coldly at Nathan, making him look away guiltily.
"What's wrong with me? Why didn't I think of it?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Nathan realized he had fallen into Jasper's verbal trap and quickly corrected himself.
"Who framed Adeline? She killed your grandmother. The evidence is right in front of you, isn't it obvious? The wound on your grandmother's chest was made by the knife in her hand! Everyone, including you and me, saw it clearly!"
Nathan pointed to Lily, dead on the bed, and Adeline, unconscious on the floor.
"Look, Adeline's already passed out, but she's still clutching that knife tightly! Everything at the scene clearly explains what happened before. What else is there to argue?"
He turned to glance at the group of reporters in the hallway. "You can help testify for me."
The reporters exchanged glances, some whispering among themselves. Most of them remained silent.
Nathan cursed under his breath and continued to stubbornly glare at Jasper. "You can't protect her; she needs to pay for her crime!"
His desperate yet defiant look made Jasper smirk coldly.
"If Adeline really killed someone, she should pay for it. But if she didn't..."
Jasper's face darkened as he said. "Not only will I make the real killer who framed Adeline pay, but I'll also expose every dirty deed his wife and kids have done, making sure his whole family joins him in prison."
Jasper's words were venomous, each one squeezed out through gritted teeth.
Nathan's eyes widened in terror as cold sweat broke out all over his body. He couldn't understand why, even though he hadn't shown any flaws, Jasper's gaze and words suggested he knew everything that had happened today.
Nathan trembled, at a loss for words.
At that moment, the elevator doors opened. The bodyguards Ryan had called were back. They scorted the reporters and their cameras away.
Once the hallway was quiet, Jasper narrowed and stood up.
"Nathan, I originally thought that if you could behave well in front of Grandma, I'd let you go to jail a bit later. But now, you don't deserve it."
As Jasper finished speaking, the police arrived.
Since Ryan had reported a murder, many officers came, sealing off the scene and collecting all the evidence.
Adeline, unconscious in a pool of blood, was finally awakened by the forensic pathologist.
"Grandma!" As soon as Adeline woke up, she reflexively called out.
When she did open her eyes, the scene before her left her stunned.
She watched as the coroner carried Lily's body away.
Just over an hour ago, Lily had been holding her hand, telling her about her daughter. Now, she was a lifeless corpse.
The white hospital bed was covered in blood. Adeline was also covered in blood.
The forensic pathologist was sealing a knife covered in her fingerprints.
Adeline stared blankly at everything, her mind unable to process it.
How could this be! She had been chatting with Lily, then suddenly felt sleepy.
Lily had gently stroked her hair, telling her to rest her head on the bed and sleep for a while.
Logic told Adeline she couldn't sleep, not in front of Lily.
But days of hard work and sleepless nights in the studio had left her exhausted.
In the end, Adeline had to give in to her body's demands and fell asleep by Lily's bedside.
In her drowsiness, she felt something splatter on her face. When she woke up, she saw a scene of blood.
A man was stabbing Lily in the heart with a knife.
Adeline wanted to get up to save Lily, but she found herself unable to move.
Instinctively, she pressed Jasper's number.
Just as she did, she felt a sharp blow to the back of her neck. Then she blacked out.
When she woke up again, the scene before her was like a nightmare.
A flash of pain crossed Jasper's eyes when he saw Adeline sitting on the floor, dazed and helpless.
Jasper's lips tightened. He wanted to go in and hold her, to comfort her. But he couldn't. It would contaminate the crime scene to enter the room.
He believed in Adeline's innocence, believed she wouldn't harm Lily.
So he couldn't let anything at the scene be disturbed.
The real killer must have left clues in the room.
Until the police collected all the evidence, he could only watch from a distance, no matter how much it pained him.
Finally, all the evidence was sealed.
"Adeline Wilson, you're under arrest for the murder of Lily Forster. Please come with us for questioning."
With the stern warning from the female officer, Adeline was handcuffed with cold, silver cuffs.
Two female officers escorted her out of the room.
Adeline could barely walk. All she could hear was the officer's stern voice echoing in her ears.
"You're under arrest for the murder of Lily Forster."
How was this possible?
She had only taken a nap, had a nightmare. Before she slept, Lily had been stroking her hair.
How could she wake up to find herself accused of killing Lily?
As she, covered in blood, was led to the door, a deep male voice called out. "Adeline."
It was Jasper's voice.
The simple call made Adeline's nose and eyes sting with tears.
She looked up at the pale-faced man before her, emotions surging within her.
Adeline's lips trembled, and silent tears fell. Her voice was hoarse and choked with sobs.
"Jasper. I... I didn't kill anyone. I wouldn't hurt Grandma."
"I know." Jasper's voice was low as he stepped forward and hugged her tightly.
Jasper's action made the nearby officers tense up. "Mr. Jasper Foster! Please move aside."
Jasper's voice was hoarse. He held Adeline's blood-stained face, speaking softly. "I believe you."
Then he wiped away her tears and kissed her forehead. "Don't worry, I'm here."
With that, Adeline was taken away by the police. Jasper stood there, watching her leave, and closed his eyes in exhaustion.
Unnoticed by anyone, a reporter at the end of the hallway hid in the bathroom, reviewing the photos he had taken earlier.
In the photos, Jasper held Adeline's blood-stained face, kissing her forehead tenderly.
The reporter sneered and sent out the news headline: #Grandmother's Killer Kissed Tenderly: Was He Involved?
