Chapter 23 So This Is What Mommy Looks Like
Jasper held onto her wrist, his eyes filled with a chilling coldness.
"You're just a servant who deliberately shows concern for Lauren to please me, who do you think you are? I appreciate your performance today, but it doesn't mean you can lecture me about my ex-wife and me. In this world, apart from Lauren's biological mother, no one can speak to me like that!"
The man's grip on her wrist tightened slightly, and Adeline suddenly felt a pang of pain.
After a moment, the man let go of her hand.
"Remember your place!"
Adeline couldn't stay on her feet and fell to the ground.
"What happened?"
Molly's lazy voice echoed in the corridor. Adeline instinctively looked up.
In front of her, Molly, wearing a red dress and seven-centimeter high heels, looked down at her seated on the ground with an arrogant expression.
"Beautiful women are indeed wicked. You deliberately schemed against Lauren, staging a rescue drama to make Jasper endlessly grateful to you. Your plan was well thought out, but unfortunately, I saw through it!"
"Molly, what are you saying?" Jasper furrowed his brows and asked in a cold voice.
The atmosphere in the corridor suddenly turned icy.
"I'm saying this maid intentionally staged this big drama to make you and Lauren be grateful to her," Molly sneered at Adeline and then hooked Jasper's arm.
"I can understand her little scheme. She wants to use the power she possesses to secure some benefits for herself. However, her audacity is too great. If something really happened to Lauren today."
As she spoke, Molly pretended to cover her heart with sadness, "I was really terrified today!"
"You're talking nonsense!" Adeline gritted her teeth, angrily leaning against the wall as she glared at Molly.
Everything was Molly's plan, and she hadn't even confronted Molly yet, but this woman went straight to playing the victim.
"How am I talking nonsense?" Molly, seeing that no one believed her, took out a document, "After the incident, I always felt connected to this woman. So I accessed the Blue Bay's communication and internet records from last night until this morning," she said, opening the files and pointing at a number.
"Look, this number contacted Adeline last night. And today, during Lauren's incident, the signal from this number went to the control room of the Ferris wheel."
Jasper frowned and took the files from her. Indeed, just as Molly said, that number contacted Adeline yesterday and appeared in the control room during the incident today.
He looked up with sharp eyes fixed on Adeline, "How do you explain this?"
Adeline clenched her fists at her sides, her nails sinking deep into her palms.
The number they mentioned was Bennett’s.
Last night, Bennett called her, asking her not to let Lauren go to the amusement park.
This morning, because he was worried about them, Bennett followed them to the park and ended up in the control room when the incident occurred.
But she couldn't say it.
Her hands tightened and then released, released and then tightened again.
Extreme hatred and anger consumed her, and though she gritted her teeth, she couldn't refute them!
"Speechless, huh?" Molly sneered, flipping through the files. "I also investigated Adeline's internet search history from last night. Look here, she spent a long time searching for various accidents that could happen at the amusement park."
Adeline clenched her teeth tightly.
She had searched for those things to protect Lauren!
But now, she couldn't defend herself!
"Jasper," Molly sighed sorrowfully, "I've always felt this woman had ill intentions. But because Lauren likes her, I didn't suspect her. I never thought... it's all my fault. If I had exposed her true nature earlier, maybe this wouldn't have happened to Lauren... It's all my fault..."
"Adeline," Jasper threw the heavy file directly onto her, "How do you explain this?"
The weighty file hit her frail body.
Adeline reached out and tightly grabbed the wall behind her.
Everything Molly presented was real.
She trembled, feeling the urge to rush over and tear Molly to shreds!
But she had to suppress herself, she had to calm down!
Getting angry, becoming furious, and arguing would only make Jasper believe that he had hit the nail on the head, so she mustn't lose her temper!
She had to, she had to remain calm!
Adeline took a deep breath and looked up at Jasper, her voice trembling slightly, "If I say that I searched for possible situations and dangers at the amusement park yesterday because I was afraid something might happen to Lauren, would you believe me?"
Molly sneered, "But what about that number?"
Adeline clung to her teeth, suppressing the boiling hatred.
"That number... it belongs to a friend of mine. He knew I was going to the amusement park and wanted to look out for me, in case something happened."
She looked at Jasper, trying to make her voice sound earnest.
Jasper's brows furrowed slightly, "Bring your friend here, and I'll ask him myself."
"He won't come," Adeline trembled on her lips. "I refuse to admit these baseless accusations, and my friend doesn't need to come and explain for me."
With those words, she closed her eyes, her voice turning cold, "All that I did today, whether it was premeditated or solely to please Mr. Foster, I believe Mr. Foster should be well aware. In my eyes, Mr. Foster is not as important as Lauren."
The woman's words caused Jasper's brows to furrow, and the image of her angry attempt to push him off the Ferris wheel flashed before his eyes.
At that moment, she had mistakenly believed that Lauren was dead, and the anger and hatred in her eyes still sent a chill down his spine.
"Who would believe what you're saying?"
Seeing Jasper's gaze soften, Molly quickly stepped forward, standing in front of the two and blocking their eye contact.
"You have no reason to treat Lauren so well out of nowhere! You just set your sights on Jasper, on his wealth, right? I've seen enough of these despicable women, each one wanting to get something for nothing."
Molly continuously incited Jasper with her words, trying to sentence Adeline.
Because she knew that with Jasper's abilities, if she didn't pin all the blame on Adeline, he would eventually uncover everything and find her involved!
Unexpectedly, Adeline suddenly calmed down.
She lifted her head, her gaze as icy as her voice, "You want to convict me based on just a phone number and a browsing history? Since Miss Collins can use my call and chat records to defame me, then I would like to see Miss Collins' recent call records and website browsing history too, if it's not too much to ask."
She didn't believe that Molly could leave no trace!
Screwing up her courage, she inhaled deeply and looked at Jasper.
"Can Mr. Foster help me with that? Perhaps Miss Collins' call records and browsing history are even more interesting than mine."
Molly's face immediately turned pale.
She glared at Adeline with rage. "Trying to drag me down with you? Dream on! I wouldn't try to hurt Lauren, not in a million years!"
With that, she turned her head and glanced at Jasper. "Jasper, you don't really want to investigate me for this woman, do you?"
Jasper leaned elegantly against the wall and gave Molly a casual glance before taking out his phone and dialing a number.
"Go and check..." he began to say, but Molly snatched the phone away from him.
"Jasper!" Molly's face turned pale. "Are you suspecting me? I could never do something like that! I am Adeline's own sister! Lauren’s aunt!"
As long as Molly didn't mention that she was Adeline's sister, things were fine. But as soon as she did, Adeline couldn't contain her inner anger!
The woman stared at Molly intensely, her words coming out slowly, each syllable emphasized, "If you're truly innocent, what do you have to fear?"
"I...I'm not afraid!" Molly started to panic. She couldn't let Jasper discover her plan!
"That's enough!" Jasper's cold voice interrupted the dispute between the two women.
He walked up to Molly and rudely snatched the phone back from her.
Adeline quickly spoke up, "Mr. Foster, I believe you're a clever man. Judging by her reaction, you should be able to tell who is lying, right?"
Jasper glanced at Molly, his voice chilling, "I will investigate and find out who set up Lauren."
"Jasper..." Molly's face turned instantly ashen. "Do...do you not trust me?"
Jasper stared at her coldly, saying nothing.
Molly bit her lip and grasped Jasper's arm with resignation as she pleaded, "But I'm Lauren's aunt, how could I harm her?"
Jasper calmly removed her hand and spoke with a low, authoritative voice, "We'll discuss this matter later."
"But..." The man turned his head, looking at Molly coldly. "Who gave you the audacity to investigate Blue Bay's communication records and network signals without authorization?"
