Chapter 783 Marry to Adeline
"I came to the Phoebe Mansion this early to see Adeline, of course."
Facing Oliver's sharp question, Brandon answered calmly, "I've been feeling under the weather these past few days and only heard about Mrs. Phoebe's situation this morning."
As he spoke, he glanced at Adeline.
"Adeline just got back to the Phoebe family and is really close to Mrs. Phoebe. With Mrs. Phoebe suddenly in trouble... I was worried she might be too upset, so I came over early."
Brandon then shifted his gaze to Adeline and Oliver.
"But when I got here, I found out Adeline wasn't home."
"I thought she might have stayed at the hospital last night, so I had my assistant wheel me away."
He sighed, casting an unhappy glance at Oliver.
"That's the truth. Got any other questions, Mr. Phoebe?"
Oliver sneered, "Is that really the case?"
Brandon chuckled, "If it wasn't, do you think I spent the night at the Phoebe Mansion?"
"Neither of you were home last night?"
"What are you arguing about so early in the morning?"
A lazy voice came from behind them. Daisy, in her pajamas, was yawning as she came downstairs.
When she saw Brandon, she paused, then smirked.
"Here to see Adeline so early in the morning? Mr. Torres, you are quite devoted."
She sat on the couch, picking at the fruit platter, and glanced at the three at the door.
"Adeline, Oliver, aren't you going to invite our guest in?"
"No need."
Brandon's voice was filled with sarcasm.
"I just came to check on Adeline early in the morning, and now I'm being misunderstood as having stayed the night at the Phoebe Mansion."
"If I stay any longer, who knows what else might be assumed."
With that, Brandon snorted, "Luke, let's go."
The servant, Luke Rivera, quickly wheeled Brandon away.
Adeline bit her lip, watching Brandon leave. After a moment of hesitation, she ran after him.
"Brandon, Oliver didn't mean it that way. He just..."
Brandon's wheelchair stopped.
He looked at Adeline coldly, "Just what?"
Adeline was silent for a moment, then took a deep breath. "If what Oliver said made you uncomfortable, I apologize on his behalf."
She stared into Brandon's eyes. "But I have something to ask you."
Brandon raised an eyebrow. "Go ahead."
"Did you send someone to... try to kill Jasper when he was injured?"
This was a question that had troubled her all night. She had thought of countless reasons why Brandon might want to kill Jasper, but she had dismissed them all.
She couldn't believe that the man who had saved her six years ago, helped her heal and undergo surgery, and taken care of her three children for six years would try to kill Jasper over something trivial.
So she wanted to hear it from Brandon himself.
Seeing the inquisitive look in Adeline's eyes, Brandon's lips curled into a slight smile.
"I did."
Adeline's heart clenched instantly.
She was shocked, her voice growing distant. "Why?"
"Why?"
Brandon's gaze was icy as he looked at Adeline. "You know better than anyone, Adeline."
"I like you, and you know that."
"I saved you six years ago, helped you heal and get through surgery, took care of your kids. Why do you think I did all that?"
"Then you said you needed to go back to Jasper for Blake's illness."
"But Blake's illness was cured, wasn't it?"
"You always think about Jasper, never about me."
His cold gaze made it impossible for Adeline to connect him with the gentle Brandon she once knew.
"Adeline, I've done so much for you. Even the most patient person can't stand being let down and provoked repeatedly."
"So yes, I sent someone to kill Jasper. I wanted him to back off, leave Oceancrest City, and get out of my territory."
"I've loved you for so many years, given so much for you. I want a result."
"Besides..."
Brandon's gaze softened as he looked at Adeline.
"Besides, Jasper has many enemies in Oceancrest City, including your father."
"Mr. Phoebe is always soft-hearted. I was just helping him."
Brandon's words made Adeline instinctively take a step back.
Her hands clenched tightly, her mouth opened as if to speak, but no words came out.
Seeing her pale face, Brandon's eyes showed a hint of pain.
He reached out, gently taking Adeline's hand. "Adeline, I was just insecure. You understand, don't you?"
Adeline silently withdrew her hand from his.
After a moment, she turned around. "Brandon, I've already promised my father I won't see Jasper again."
"You are my friend now, and my future husband."
"I don't want you to continue trying to kill Jasper for my sake."
She took a deep breath. "That's all I have to say."
With that, she turned and walked back into the Phoebe Mansion.
Brandon was right.
He had done so much for her, waited for her for so many years, all for her.
There are no free lunches in the world.
She had enjoyed Brandon's help during her most difficult times, so she had to make equivalent sacrifices.
Back then, before returning to Jasper, she had sworn that if she and Brandon couldn't find true love, she would marry Brandon.
Now, everything had come full circle.
She had to fulfill her promise.
Inside the mansion, Adeline leaned against the iron gate, her hand on her stomach, tears streaming down her face.
The only thing she couldn't let go of was the child in her womb.
If this child could be born safely...
Outside, Brandon watched Adeline leave, his eyes narrowing slightly.
He had always thought that after everything that had happened, with Jasper being suspected of killing Zara, Adeline would hate Jasper to the core.
But even now, she was concerned about whether he had tried to kill Jasper?
How could he let Jasper go?
Brandon narrowed his eyes. "Luke, give me the phone."
His assistant, Luke, quickly handed him the phone.
Taking the phone, Brandon dialed Howard's number.
"Mr. Phoebe, this is Brandon."
"I heard about Mrs. Phoebe. My condolences."
"I'm sure Mrs. Phoebe will wake up."
"I have a suggestion... How about Adeline and I get married as soon as possible? Maybe it will bring Mrs. Phoebe some good luck. What do you think?"
