Chapter 699 His Indifference

Adeline was practically shoved out of the private room by Dione.

Still in her server uniform and mask, she spotted Jasper just outside the restaurant.

A few bodyguards were subtly keeping an eye on him as he leaned wearily against his car, talking on the phone.

It sounded like he was talking to Lauren.

Lauren said sweetly, "I'm fine here with my brothers. We don't need your help."

"Okay, your mom will be alright. They won't hurt her. See her? I can't see her right now, but once I handle this, I will. Don't worry, I'll take down the Phoebe family as fast as I can and get your mom back." Jasper spoke into the phone.

His deep voice carried on the night breeze, reaching Adeline's ears.

She felt her blood run cold. Her emotions were beyond words.

Standing there, she watched Jasper on the phone, her heart aching.

She had thought Jasper had rushed to Oceancrest City to find her.

She had worried that if Jasper couldn't find her, he would go after the Torres family.

He knew she was with the Torres family and that they wouldn't harm her.

So, he didn't choose to look for her.

He even lied to Lauren on the phone, saying he couldn't see her right now.

How could he not see her?

If he went to the Torres Mansion, she would find a way to appear before him.

With Brandon out of the picture, the Torres family was now led by Randy, who wasn't very capable. If Jasper proposed the right conditions, Randy would definitely agree.

Still, Adeline believed she was the woman he loved the most.

In his eyes, there would be no other woman but her.

But perhaps, in his eyes, the hatred for the Phoebe family and the pain of Lily's death were more important than her.

After arriving in Oceancrest City, he focused solely on revenge, ignoring her.

He had always been so cold; she should have expected it.

Suddenly, Dione's voice came from behind. "Adeline."

Adeline turned around.

Dione pulled her inside, whispering urgently, "Change back into your clothes, or I'll be in trouble!"

Adeline remembered she was still wearing the restaurant server's uniform.

She apologized and quickly followed Dione inside.

In the distance, Jasper furrowed his brow and put away his phone.

Had he just heard someone call Adeline?

Jasper glanced towards the restaurant entrance, only seeing the backs of two servers walking in.

He sighed and pondered, 'Adeline must still be at the Phoebe Mansion, locked in the safest place. How could she be here?'

He rubbed his temples, laughing at himself for missing her so much.

It had only been two days, and he was already hearing things.

He needed to speed up and force the Phoebe family to release her.

With that thought, Jasper got back into the car. "Ryan, drive to the office."

Ryan, in the driver's seat, hesitated, "Mr. Foster, you haven't rested for a day and a night. Shouldn't you go back to the hotel to rest?"

Jasper narrowed his eyes, "As long as the Phoebe family doesn't hand over Adeline, I won't rest."

Ryan sighed and started the car.

When Adeline came out of Celestial Garden Restaurant after changing, she only saw the taillights of Jasper's black Maserati.

The car quickly disappeared, becoming a black dot.

Watching him leave, Adeline felt a pang of bitterness.

She had tried so hard to see him, only to witness his coldness.

Poor Brandon had even thrown himself out of his wheelchair to help her get out.

Suppressing her sadness, Adeline sniffed and returned to the hospital.

In the hospital, Brandon was sitting in his wheelchair, reading under the lamp.

The book in his hands was still the one Adeline had given him to understand the basics of jewelry design.

She walked into the room, seeing him so focused, and couldn't help but laugh.

"I recommended five books, and you're only on the third one? If you really can't get into it, why force yourself?"

Brandon smiled warmly, putting the book away, "I just want to understand your field better. Every time I see you working so hard, I think jewelry design must be the most interesting job in the world."

He laughed self-deprecatingly, "Maybe I'm just too dumb. I still don't really get what you love."

Adeline bit her lip, smiling awkwardly, and pushed his wheelchair out.

"Don't say that. You're excellent in your own field. You don't have to force yourself to learn things you're not interested in."

Sitting in the wheelchair, Brandon looked at Adeline's reflection in the elevator doors.

"But I want to understand you better."

Adeline's hand paused slightly on the back of the wheelchair when she heard that.

She bit her lip, "Brandon, I thought you understood without me having to say it."

"I..." Adeline faltered, "I remember we agreed that if you found someone you liked, I would step aside. If I..."

"If you find someone you like, I'll step aside." Brandon interrupted Adeline coldly, "Adeline, I remember. You don't need to remind me. I know you've forgiven Jasper and plan to be with him. I don't intend to stop you."

He placed his large hand over Adeline's on the wheelchair, "But just because you won't marry me, does that mean I can't even try to understand you?"

The warmth of Brandon's hand burned Adeline's heart.

She opened her mouth to speak but couldn't find the words.

Finally, she sighed. "Brandon, you'll find someone better than me."

Brandon didn't respond, just looked ahead, "Let's go home."

Adeline, feeling conflicted, took Brandon back to the Torres Mansion, to their side courtyard.

After handing Brandon over to the servant, she saw a servant from the main house leaving the side courtyard.

It was clear Fiona had sent someone to monitor her and Brandon.

That night, Adeline didn't sleep well and kept dreaming.

In her dreams, Jasper always had his back to her, confronting the Phoebe family.

He was always in conflict with them, never turning to her.

Even when the Torres family dragged her into the abyss, he never looked back.

Adeline woke up in a fright. She sat up in bed, drenched in cold sweat.

"Adeline."

Suddenly, Brandon's gentle voice came from outside the door.

"I think you were too subjective when you said Jasper didn't care about you. Maybe he doesn't think that way, and you misunderstood him. So, I got Jasper's contact number. Do you want to come out and call him, have a proper talk?"
