Chapter 413 Don't Wait for Me
Hearing Hazel's voice fade away, Adeline threw on her clothes, yanked open the dressing room door, and chased after the sound.
But she couldn't catch up to Hazel.
She bit her lip, ready to keep searching, when Vikram's voice came from behind. "What are you looking for?"
Adeline pressed her lips together, glanced one more time in the direction Hazel had gone, and, after making sure she was out of sight, sighed deeply, "It's nothing."
When Adeline got back to Blue Bay with Vikram, Blake and Lauren were still chilling on the sofa, waiting for her like always.
Seeing her bring back a stranger, Blake frowned a bit and gave Vikram a once-over with a hint of suspicion. "Mommy, who’s this guy?"
While Adeline and Vikram were setting the takeout on the dining table, she introduced him casually, "This is Mommy's new friend, Mr. Das. You can call him Vikram."
"Vikram?" Lauren frowned and tried out the name.
Vikram immediately grinned.
He squatted down, wanting to pick up Lauren. "You're so sensible!"
Before Vikram could touch Lauren, Blake had already frowned, stretched out his small hand, and blocked Vikram. "Lauren's a girl. If you wanna hold someone, hold me."
Vikram was taken aback and thought, 'Blake, at such a young age, gets this stuff?'
Vikram awkwardly smiled, stood up, and while unpacking the takeout with Adeline, he lightly complimented, "Blake and Lauren are really sensible and smart!"
Blake asked, "What are you doing at our house?"
Before Vikram could say much, Blake had already walked over, pulled out a chair, jumped onto it, crossed his arms, and scrutinized Vikram up and down. "We're strangers to Jasper now. Mr. Das, as Jasper's relative, what brings you here?"
Vikram frowned.
Adeline said, "I invited him."
Before Vikram could answer, Adeline cut Blake off calmly, "I met him at the hospital. He mentioned he was starting a jewelry company, and I asked him to bring over a business plan so I could offer some advice."
Blake nodded and turned to glance at Vikram indifferently. "Where's your proposal?"
"I forgot to bring it." Vikram scratched his head and smiled awkwardly. "How about I come back tomorrow?"
After saying that, he was about to leave.
Blake rolled his eyes at him. "You bought all this food, right? You paid for it?"
Vikram nodded.
Blake said, "Then stay for the meal. We can't have you spending money and not eating with us."
Blake looked at Vikram warily. "But after dinner, you gotta leave immediately."
Vikram was both amused and exasperated by Blake.
Clearly, he was the adult, but in front of Blake, their roles seemed reversed.
While they were chatting in the dining room, Lauren sat on the sofa, bored, and picked up Adeline's phone.
She opened Adeline's New Feed, and the first post she saw was from Jasper. It was a photo of the night sky, with no text.
Lauren silently rolled her eyes.
Adeline had brought a strange man home, and Jasper was acting like nothing was wrong, looking at the night sky? Jasper had no sense of urgency at all!
Lauren pouted, got a sneaky idea, whipped out her phone, and snapped a pic of Adeline, Vikram, and Blake chatting. She posted it on New Feed.
When Jason called, Jasper was chilling on the second-floor balcony of Emerald Crest Estate, working on his laptop under the moonlight.
Jason asked, "Jasper, what's the deal? When did Vikram and Adeline hook up?"
Jason kept going, "I saw her New Feed. They look pretty cozy, having dinner together!"
"Looks like your kid's already cool with Vikram. Are they a thing now?"
"Vikram and Adeline are together, and even Blake's on board. Can you handle that?"
Jasper squinted. "What nonsense are you spouting?"
Jason said, "I'm not making this up! Check Adeline's New Feed!"
Jasper frowned, hung up, and opened Adeline's New Feed.
The photo that popped up made his brows knit together.
The pic showed Adeline and Vikram, deep in conversation, bustling around the dining table. Blake sat across from them, chin in his hands, chatting away.
And the caption on the photo made him feel like he'd been punched in the gut.
Adeline's caption read: [Thanks, Mr. Das, for dinner. Meeting you is truly a blessing from God.]
Jasper thought, 'What the heck does this mean? Didn't Adeline just meet Vikram today? They just met, and she brought him home to meet Blake and Lauren? And what's with this post? Is she announcing they're a thing?'
Jasper felt more and more agitated.
He lit a cigarette, opened Adeline's chat window, and wanted to say something but ended up sending nothing.
Finally, Jasper irritably put down his phone, stood up, and went to the balcony edge to smoke.
Even if Adeline really liked Vikram and wanted to be with him, what did it have to do with him?
From the moment Bennett and the fourth child in Adeline's womb died, he had already lost the right to be with her.
Between him and her, there were the lives of two children, insurmountable and irreconcilable.
Letting her hate him, despise him, was far simpler than trying to make her accept him, love him.
Jasper took a deep drag on his cigarette, stubbed it out, and turned to go downstairs.
Even if she really wanted to date and be with someone else, that person shouldn't be a barely nineteen-year-old Vikram!
Luna asked, "Jasper, where are you going so late?"
Hearing Jasper's movements in the hallway, Luna pursed her lips, came out in a cute yet sexy nightgown, and looked timidly at Jasper, who was putting on his coat. "Do you have to work overtime at the company?"
Jasper replied, "I have something to deal with."
Jasper didn't look up as he buttoned his coat. "You rest well at home. Ms. Bishop is staying at the estate tonight, and the bodyguards around the estate have been replaced with sharp ones."
"If you need anything, just find Ms. Bishop or the butler. Don't wait up for me."
Then Jasper left without looking back and drove towards Blue Bay.
