Chapter 471 I Was Burned by Adeline
Adeline's words hit the room like a bomb. Everyone went dead silent, even Luna was caught off guard for a sec.
Luna had only said that stuff to rile Adeline up. She never thought Adeline would actually go along with it!
"Moon." Richard, standing nearby, scrunched up his face. Quitting the jewelry design game and apologizing to Luna in public? That’s a major diss for someone like Adeline. How could she just roll over like that?
Timothy and Robert were also looking pretty grim. "Adeline," they called out.
But Adeline just flashed a calm smile and turned to Mia next to her. "I trust my friend."
Mia had ditched her plans to come back to Radiance Springs, and that made Adeline trust her completely. Plus, Mia used to be a journalist.
Adeline had mad faith in her judgment; if Mia didn’t have solid proof, she wouldn’t be here. Mia had done so much for Adeline. If Adeline couldn’t even trust her, that would be a real heartbreaker.
Mia was a bit stunned by how quickly Adeline backed her up. After a moment, she took a deep breath and gave Adeline’s shoulder a reassuring pat. "Don’t worry."
With that, Mia fired up her laptop and started laying out the evidence.
Mia said, "First off, let’s talk about the incident from half a month ago where Adeline supposedly bullied Luna and her friend Amelia. As you can see from the previous video, Adeline wasn’t just going after Luna but more so the girl next to her. This girl, named Amelia, got canned by the Foster Group half a month ago. After she was fired, someone wired her a hundred grand, pushing her to leave Radiance Springs for good."
Mia then shot a look at Luna. "Ms. Jones, did you know about this?"
Luna’s face went pale. She pressed her lips together. "How would I know? After Amelia tried to set me up and got canned, I cut all ties with her."
Luna then looked at Mia with curiosity. "But it’s been a while since I’ve seen her. How is she now? Did she really take the money and leave Radiance Springs?"
Luna knew the answer better than anyone. Amelia had left Radiance Springs half a month ago. Luna had personally put her on the plane.
"Of course, she did." Mia replied.
"Then she might have really taken someone else’s money to frame me. Otherwise, why would she leave so quickly?" Luna sighed, "I treated her so well, yet she framed me for that little bit of money. But she came back the day after leaving Radiance Springs."
Mia cut Luna off coldly, "Amelia found my people. She said she knew I was friends with Adeline, so she came back specifically to tell me the truth."
With that, Mia popped open the first video on the USB drive.
Mia said, "Since everyone has seen the video of Adeline going after Amelia and Luna, has anyone seen this angle?"
The video started rolling.
This video was from the same spot as the previous one where Adeline was chewing out Luna and Amelia. But this time, the video was way longer.
The video kicked off with Luna and Amelia whispering to the camera.
Luna asked, "Is this spot good?"
Amelia said, "Almost. When Adeline comes in, she should stand right here to talk."
Luna praised, "Amelia, you’re awesome."
Amelia said, "Don’t worry. I’ll find a way to set her off later."
Just as their chat wrapped up, Adeline walked into the office.
Almost everyone in the office was showering Adeline with flowers and well-wishes, except for those two. Not only did they skip the flowers and blessings, but Amelia also kicked things off with a snarky comment.
Later, Adeline, feeling ticked off for Lucia who got mocked by Amelia, walked right into the spot they had set up for the camera. Then came the part that blew up online, where Adeline supposedly went off on Luna and Amelia.
At the end of the video, Amelia sat in front of the camera. "Everyone, this is the full story from that day. I have the original footage here. After I gave it to Luna, she told me to delete it, but I kept a backup. What you saw online were edited clips. In fact, Luna and I had planned to film Adeline getting bullied by us. But later, Luna thought it’d be more useful to show Adeline bullying others, so it turned out this way."
Amelia took a deep breath, looking dead serious at the camera. "I’ve got plenty of evidence of Luna’s attempts to frame Adeline, all of which I’ve handed over to Ms. White. I hope everyone can see Luna’s true colors."
Then the video cut off abruptly.
The crowd, who had been waiting for some juicy drama, was left speechless.
Luna stood there, fists clenched tight. She bit her lip and glared daggers at Mia. "Well, I always thought Ms. White was upright, but I didn’t expect Ms. White to use such dirty tricks! Amelia was kicked out of the Foster Group by my boyfriend, Jasper. So she’s holding a grudge and taking it out on me by making up these lies! I treated her like a friend. I didn’t expect that as soon as she left the Foster Group, she’d repay my kindness with betrayal!"
After saying this, Luna sniffled and looked pitifully at Mia. "Ms. White, I don’t know if you were fooled by Amelia or if you bribed her to target me."
"I just want to say," Luna looked tearfully at the silent crowd, "None of it is true! They made it all up to frame me."
Mia laughed. "Really?" She smirked and opened the second video.
The second video was an audio recording from a phone.
In the recording, Luna’s usually sweet voice turned sinister. "I’ll find an excuse to get into Adeline’s office and cause a scene. Then you bring everyone in and swipe her design drafts in the chaos."
"But Ms. Jones," a male voice chimed in, "What if I get caught? What if I can’t steal the design drafts?"
Luna said, "I have other ways, of course. Do you think my only goal was to create chaos and have you steal the drafts? I have another plan."
The man asked, "What is it?"
Luna said, "Of course, it’s to make everyone see that I got burned by Adeline."
After this recording played, the room erupted.
After all, Luna had always come off as gentle and pitiful. But the voice in the recording and what she said...
Someone in the crowd started to piece it together. "So, the incident where Adeline burned Luna was set up by Luna herself?"
"No, it’s not true!" Luna bit her lip, her voice hoarse as she tried to defend herself. "It’s all fake; it’s all fake!"
As she spoke, Luna suddenly seemed to remember something and unbuttoned her shirt, lifting the hem to reveal a nasty burn scar on her stomach. "If I’ve been plotting against Adeline all along, then how do you explain this burn on my stomach? A lot of people saw it that day; I was burned by Adeline. If I were really acting and pretending to be sick to gather evidence, how do you explain this burn? Are you gonna say I burned myself with boiling water?"
