Chapter 882 I Know Who He Is
Jasper's deep, magnetic voice made Adeline feel a moment of confusion.
If they weren't sworn enemies, would she be willing to go back with him?
She didn't know.
Even without the enmity, she wasn't the most important person in Jasper's heart.
He could help Randy out of spite, just to lock her up.
Would a man like that truly love her, even without the feud?
Adeline wasn't sure.
She had known for a long time that she was special to Jasper.
More special than Molly, Stella, and Luna.
But love wasn't everything to him.
He loved his family and himself more than he loved any woman.
Adeline's silence had already given Jasper her answer.
His lips curled into a bitter smile.
Sebastian's words from last night echoed in his ears:
"Once upon a time, you were very important to Adeline. She wouldn't even consider being with any other man besides you."
Once, he was the most important person in her heart.
But now, even when he held her and humbly asked if she would come home with him, she hesitated.
What had he done to make her lose hope in him to this extent?
Soon, they arrived at the hospital room.
Jasper gently set Adeline down.
Adeline's strength had mostly returned.
As soon as her feet touched the ground, she rushed into the room.
The scene inside made Adeline's eyes well up with tears.
On the bed, Zara was hooked up to oxygen and various tubes, her breathing and heartbeat weak.
Beside her, Howard, who was in a completely deranged state, held her hand and repeatedly confessed:
"Zara, I've liked you for a long time. I just didn't have the courage to say it because I promised Esther. I didn't want to betray her."
"Zara, can you wake up and hug me? I dream of you waking up and hugging me again."
"I'm sorry, I'm really sorry."
"If you wake up, I'll take you on adventures, be your guinea pig, do whatever you want. Is that okay?"
He held Zara's hand, crying and laughing, repeating these words over and over.
Oliver gently reached out and pulled Adeline into his arms:
"I just spoke with Dr. Ross. She said that Dad's current state and these words aren't something he came up with now."
"They're things he's always wanted to say but never dared to."
"Now that he's lost his mind, he forgets everything else but can't forget his obsession, so he keeps repeating them."
Oliver's words made Adeline's tears finally fall uncontrollably.
So Zara's years of dedication had a response.
Since Adeline found out she was the daughter of the Phoebe family, the person she felt most sorry for was her mother, Zara.
Her life had been so tragic.
Always sacrificing for the Phoebe family, for Howard, Oliver, and Daisy.
But neither of the children were her biological ones.
The man she loved had always been thinking about a woman who had been dead for over twenty years.
Now, she finally felt at peace.
Zara's years of dedication had truly been acknowledged.
Adeline looked at Zara's face through her tears, silently praying for her to wake up soon.
The man she had waited for over twenty years had finally admitted he liked her. She had to get better soon.
As if sensing Adeline's thoughts, Oliver sighed and tightened his grip on her shoulder:
"She will wake up."
Although Zara wasn't Oliver's biological mother, her care and love for him over the years were no less.
In fact, she treated him better than Daisy, whom she had always considered her own daughter.
Seeing Howard finally acknowledge his feelings for Zara, a weight was lifted from Oliver's heart.
Even his biological mother, Esther, would feel comforted in heaven knowing this, wouldn't she?
The two of them stayed in the room with Howard and Zara for over half an hour.
Until Sebastian knocked and said Clio was looking for them, they reluctantly left.
"Your mother's condition has become much more complicated."
Once Adeline and Oliver were in the office, Clio took a deep breath and began analyzing the medical records:
"Previously, her will to live was strong, so I estimated she would wake up within a week."
"But last night's incident drastically lowered her will to live, almost causing an accident."
"Now, your father's presence has stabilized her emotions, but it's just stability."
"To wake up..."
Clio took a deep breath and looked at Adeline and Oliver:
"It will take some time."
"And I suggest your father stay here for treatment."
"On one hand, I have a friend who is a mental health expert and can help stabilize his condition."
"On the other hand."
Clio took a deep breath, "If something like this happens again, I'm afraid he won't make it in time from Oceancrest City."
Her words made Adeline and Oliver exchange a glance.
After a moment, they both nodded.
Leaving Howard here was good for both Howard and Zara.
At least, Howard, who had come here, didn't shout or act out after seeing Zara.
Perhaps, even in his confused state, he knew he had to take care of Zara, so he didn't make any loud noises or inappropriate actions.
"I want to know why Mom's condition took a sudden turn last night?"
Oliver furrowed his brow and asked in confusion.
Clio's face paled at the question.
She took a deep breath and finally took out the surveillance video:
"This man, named Kurt."
"He said he's from Oceancrest City and is Mrs. Phoebe's brother, here to see her."
"I initially refused, but he accurately described some of Mrs. Phoebe's unknown physical characteristics and knew her family situation well."
Clio rubbed her aching forehead:
"I wanted to contact Adeline, but I knew she was drugged and couldn't respond."
"And he was sincere, even allowing my staff to search him and not bring anything in."
"So I allowed it."
"I watched the entire visit through the surveillance."
"After he left, Mrs. Phoebe's condition worsened."
Clio closed her eyes, "It's my fault."
"If you have any complaints, you can vent them on me. I won't have any objections."
Despite being a doctor for so many years, she still hadn't learned to be cold-hearted and was still deceived by others' disguises.
That's why she didn't work in a formal hospital.
Adeline and Oliver exchanged a glance.
Neither of them blamed her.
Oliver carefully watched the surveillance of the man, unable to recall Zara ever having such a brother.
He checked the records but found no information on Kurt.
Just as Adeline and Oliver were at their wits' end, Jasper walked in with his phone.
"I know who he is."
