Chapter 278 Will You Come Back with Me?
"Damn it!" Stella muttered as she reluctantly swapped her red dress for the long shirt and pants the amusement park staff handed her in the changing room.
Stepping out, she almost bumped into Bennett, who was waiting right outside.
"Stella, the fun's just getting started," Bennett said, leaning against the door, licking the ice cream Jasper had bought him. He winked at her. "Later, I'll take you on the roller coaster, the drop tower, and the swinging ship."
He raised an eyebrow. "Scared of heights? I heard there's bungee jumping here, too."
Bennett turned to her. "I was gonna do all this with Adeline, but she hurt her shoulder, so you're up."
"Today's all about bonding with the kids. Your son and daughter want you to join in on the fun. You wouldn't refuse, right?"
Stella's body tensed; she hated these thrill rides!
If it weren't for dealing with Adeline today, she wouldn't have come at all!
She had planned to cozy up to Jasper in front of Adeline and bond with the kids. As long as Adeline was unhappy, she'd be satisfied.
Not only did she fail to upset Adeline, but she was tricked the moment she entered the park!
Stella shot Bennett a fierce glare. "What do you want?"
"Annoying people should know their place." Bennett took another bite of his ice cream and smirked. "On a nice weekend like this, you should visit your dad in prison or check on your mom, who's upset because her husband's locked up."
"What do you think?"
Stella gritted her teeth and glared at Bennett again before storming off.
Watching her leave, Bennett fiddled with the pendant around his neck and chuckled. "Blake, your idea was genius!"
Blake's voice was calm on the other end of the phone. "I did some digging. She's scared of heights and hates thrill rides."
"You're the best!" Bennett grinned. "But how'd you get her info? Do you know who she really is now?"
Blake quickly changed the subject. "Stella should be leaving soon."
"What about Jasper?" Bennett asked.
"I hacked into the surveillance. Jasper's having a blast with Lauren," Blake said.
Bennett frowned. "Let him be. We're leaving tomorrow, and Lauren likes him a lot."
Outside in the amusement park, Jasper was shooting balloons with a toy rifle while Lauren stood beside him, hugging a giant teddy bear and smiling at Adeline. "Mom, isn't Dad amazing?"
Adeline smiled and ruffled Lauren's hair without saying a word.
When Stella stormed out of the changing room, the first thing she saw was the perfect scene of the three of them, like a happy family.
Stella clenched her fists and walked over. As Jasper put down the rifle, she threw herself into his arms. "Jasper, I just got a call. My dad's in prison, and my mom's condition worsened in the hospital from the shock."
She looked up at him, eyes pleading. "Will you come with me to visit my mom?"
Lauren, standing nearby, immediately protested. "No way!"
"Daddy promised he'd score 520 points and win me the biggest teddy bear as a goodbye gift!"
Stella glanced at her before turning back to Jasper, her voice soft. "Jasper, since Lauren wants it so much, let's just buy the teddy bear for her. Will you come with me to see my mom?"
Lauren pouted. "I don't want one bought with money!"
"I want Daddy to win it for me with points!"
"Things you earn are different from things you buy!"
Stella frowned. "What's the difference? Aren't they both teddy bears?"
She looked up at Jasper again. "My mom's condition is serious. I'm really worried about her. Will you come with me?"
Stella desperately wanted to avoid Bennett's torment. But if she left Jasper here, it would play right into Adeline's hands.
Thinking quickly, Stella clung to Jasper's hand, her voice turning sweet. "Jasper."
Adeline couldn't help but chuckle. "Mrs. Foster, didn't your dad go to prison yesterday?"
"If your mom were upset, it would've been worse yesterday."
"You weren't with her then, so why the sudden concern today?"
She reclined on the bench, gripping Lauren's hand, and chuckled softly. "And earlier today, didn't you mention that you stayed because you couldn't bear to part with Bennett and Lauren?"
"Why do you want to leave in an hour?"
Adeline's eyes were full of mockery and disdain.
Stella narrowed her eyes. She knew Adeline was getting back at her for the harsh words she'd said earlier.
"Stella," Jasper said, gently pulling her out of his arms. "Adeline's right."
"This morning, you insisted we come to spend time with the kids."
"We just got here. Let's not rush to leave."
"Yeah," Lauren chimed in, hugging the juice Ryan had just bought her. "Bennett said he wants to play on the roller coaster and the drop tower with you!"
She glanced mischievously at Adeline. "If Mom wasn't hurt, she could've come too!"
"But since Mom's injured, you get to ride the roller coasters and drop towers with Bennett!"
Stella's forehead vein throbbed. She bit her lip and turned to Jasper. "Jasper, will you come with me? I'm really worried about my mom."
"If you're worried, go back yourself," Lauren said, taking another sip of juice. "Dad's gonna win the big teddy bear for me!"
Before Stella could respond, Jasper spoke calmly. "If you're really that worried, let Ryan take you back first."
