Chapter 434 Inviting Her to Join Me
Hearing what Adeline said, Amelia's face went ghostly white.
She bit her lip and shot a quick, desperate look at Luna. "Luna."
Luna's eyes narrowed, a sly glint in them.
After a beat, Luna pursed her lips and gave Adeline a weak look. "Ms. Wilson, come on, this is such a tiny thing. No need to bother Jasper, right? He's got a million things on his plate."
Adeline snorted. "Oh, really? Even if Mr. Foster's swamped, you think he'd ignore Ms. Jones's issues?"
Every time something went down, wasn't it always Jasper who showed up in the design department to back Luna up?
Once he tried to fire her three assistants, another time he wanted to make Lucia apologize.
Busy, my foot. She didn't buy it.
Luna bit her lip, like she was making a big decision.
She stood up and bowed deeply to Adeline. "Ms. Wilson, I'm sorry on Amelia's behalf. She said and did things she shouldn't have. Even though this isn't my fault, she's my friend, so I'm apologizing for her. I'll make her write a self-reflection and have a serious talk with her. Let's not drag Jasper into this!"
Luna's sudden, humble apology made the whole office go dead quiet. Everyone stared in shock.
Just a moment ago, Luna and Amelia were mocking Adeline, acting all high and mighty. Now Luna was all humble?
Adeline frowned. "I didn't ask you to apologize."
"I know." Luna's voice wavered, like she was about to cry. "I know some things can't be fixed with an apology. We'll do our best to make it right."
Then Luna clutched her chest, her face going pale, and she had to grab the desk for support.
Seeing this, Amelia quickly helped her sit down. "Luna, what's wrong? I'll call Mr. Foster right now!"
"No need." Luna weakly leaned back in the chair and pointed to her drawer. "Get the medicine; I'll be fine after taking it. I'm just a bit emotional."
Amelia bit her lip and quickly grabbed the medicine from the drawer, handing it to her.
After taking the medicine, Luna looked a bit better. She held Amelia's hand tightly, her voice weak. "Promise me. Don't tell Jasper. I don't want him distracted by my issues again."
Amelia bit her lip. Despite her reluctance, seeing Luna like this left her no choice but to nod.
Adeline watched this whole charade, her brows furrowing deeply.
Luna's act seemed fake, but also kinda real.
Adeline said, "Ms. Jones, take a good rest. If you're really feeling unwell, take a leave and go home."
With that, she sighed, holding the bouquet in her arms, and headed back to her office.
Maybe she was just too happy from all the well-wishes today, which made her argue with someone like Luna who fakes being sick all the time.
Sitting back in her chair, Adeline rubbed her temples.
She could already picture Jasper storming into her office, ready to chew her out.
But to her surprise, the whole morning passed without a peep from Jasper.
At lunch, Lucia couldn't help but ask Adeline if she'd gotten any calls from Jasper blaming her.
Adeline shook her head.
"That's weird," Lucia pouted. "Luna's not the type to let it go. Plus, she put on that whole sick act this morning. No way she didn't run to Mr. Foster to complain."
Adeline shrugged. "Maybe Jasper's just too busy to deal with it yet."
She couldn't think of any other reason.
In the afternoon, her phone finally buzzed with a call from Jasper.
Sitting in her chair, she saw "Jasper" flash on the screen and a cold smile crept onto her lips.
She took a deep breath, picked up the phone, and braced herself for the worst. "Mr. Foster."
Jasper's voice was curt. "Come to my office."
Adeline nodded. "Okay."
She had a document to give him anyway.
As she walked out of her office, she glanced over at Luna's desk. It was empty.
Seeing Adeline look over, Amelia, who was sitting next to Luna's desk, snorted and raised her chin. "Luna went to see Mr. Foster. You're in for it."
Adeline narrowed her eyes, too tired to deal with Amelia's attitude, and left the office with the document.
On the way, she couldn't help but find the whole situation amusing.
Jasper was usually sharp as a tack. He'd almost figured out her secret a few times.
But around Luna, he turned into a complete idiot.
Whatever Luna said, he bought it. Whatever she wanted, he did. Those who knew him saw he liked her, while those who didn't might think he owed her his life.
Just as she was mulling this over, the elevator dinged.
Adeline took a deep breath, steadied herself, and knocked on Jasper's office door.
Inside, Jasper was watching Luna take her medicine.
Luna grimaced. "So bitter."
Seeing her face scrunched up, Jasper smiled and handed her an apple. "You're not a kid anymore, still scared of a little bitterness?"
Luna pouted, finished the medicine, and held the apple. Just as she was about to say something, she noticed Adeline at the door.
She pursed her lips and looked at Jasper. "Jasper, Ms. Wilson's here for business, right?"
Luna said, "I'll leave first."
She quickly got up and left, giving Adeline a light smile as she passed.
Adeline frowned, puzzled by her behavior.
"Sit," Jasper said, pointing to the seat opposite him after Luna left.
After a week of not seeing her, Adeline looked thinner and more worn out.
Adeline frowned and sat down. "Mr. Foster, did you call me here about this morning?"
Jasper looked confused. "What happened this morning?"
Adeline was taken aback. "Ms. Jones didn't tell you about this morning?"
Jasper paused, then smiled. "Oh, you mean the celebration your team had for you? Luna mentioned it. It's nice to see your department getting along."
He even chuckled softly. "It's the first time you've invited everyone to dinner and karaoke, right? Luna told me, and I was surprised. Didn't expect you to invite her and ask her to bring me along."
Adeline was stunned.
