Chapter 242 Adeline Fainted
"What did you do last night?" Jasper asked.
Adeline bit her lip and glanced at Jasper with a hint of displeasure in her eyes. "Mr. Foster, what do you think I could have done last night?"
Even though he had been drinking and had lost his rationality later, he had personally sent her a message using his phone. Did he forget?
Jasper gave her a cold glance, his lips curling with disdain. "How would I know what you did last night?"
Last night, when they finished dinner in the living room, he specifically reminded her to rest early since they had a summary meeting at the company today after their business trip.
So, did Adeline just ignore his words?
Moreover, she had stayed in the children's room with the kids last night.
The kids must have gone to bed early, and there was no place in the children's room for her to work.
He could not understand why Adeline didn't get a good rest.
Did she stay up late chatting with Sebastian?
Jasper's eyes darkened slightly.
Last night, he did hear Bennett and Adeline asking about Sebastian.
At that time, Adeline had gently smiled and ruffled Bennett's hair. "We'll contact him when we get back to the room, okay?"
Could it be that she stayed up late chatting with Sebastian?
Thinking of this, Jasper let out a cold snort. "I always thought Miss Wilson was a dedicated person."
"But knowing that you had to give a summary report at the company the day after returning from a business trip, you still stayed up late and ended up like this."
His deep, cold eyes glanced at Adeline's face. "It seems I misjudged you."
Adeline rubbed her aching temples.
Her head hurt, and she felt unwell all over. Even the sight of the table full of dishes made her feel nauseous.
Adeline took a deep breath and put down her utensils. "I shall not be absent from work today."
"I know my responsibilities. I didn't intentionally neglect my rest last night."
She coldly glanced at Jasper. "But I still have to say."
"Jasper, you have no right to criticize me for not resting well."
Adeline stood up directly. "Thank you, Lily, for preparing such a lavish breakfast, but I have no appetite and can't enjoy it."
"I'm heading to work now."
With that, Adeline went upstairs to grab the files she had collected in Las Vegas and left the house.
As she left Blue Bay, she saw Jasper affectionately serving Stella food at the dining table.
Her heart felt like it had been hit hard and was in pain.
"Adeline, are you really not going to eat anything?"
Ryan, seeing she was unwell, kindly offered to drive her. "You don't look well. Are you sure you want to go straight to the office?"
Adeline leaned back in the car's rear seat and closed her eyes. "Yes."
At that moment, her phone rang.
It was a message from Bennett.
Bennett first harshly scolded Jasper and then reminded Adeline to eat something at the office and to rest well, not to push herself too hard.
Looking at Bennett's message, Adeline's heart trembled slightly.
In this world, the only people who truly cared about her were her three precious children.
As for Jasper.
Adeline could only try to convince herself that everything last night was just the pain she had to endure to treat Blake.
Soon, the car arrived at the Foster Group building.
Adeline took a deep breath, opened the car door, and went straight upstairs with the files in her arms.
"Mr. Foster."
Watching Adeline's slender back, Ryan couldn't help but take out his phone and call Jasper, "Adeline seems really unwell."
Jasper responded indifferently on the other end of the line, "I know."
With that, he coldly hung up.
Ryan sighed.
At nine in the morning, Adeline had already organized the materials she brought back from Las Vegas in her office.
"Lucia, inform the department to have a meeting. I'll brief everyone on the findings from Las Vegas."
Lucia nodded and was about to leave with the files when she instinctively glanced at Adeline. "Adeline, don't you need to rest a bit?"
Anyone could see that Adeline was unwell.
Her face looked worse than the color of the walls.
Adeline smiled faintly. "Work is more important."
Lucia frowned, giving Adeline a look as if she were a monster.
Lucia had seen dedicated workers, but none so reckless.
After leaving the office, Lucia felt uneasy and opened the door again, standing at the entrance. "Adeline, let me get you a cup of coffee?"
Adeline shook her head. "No need."
When she hadn't rested well, the smell of coffee made her want to vomit.
Lucia sighed, finally closed the office door, and left.
But shortly after the door closed, it opened again.
This time, Adeline didn't even look up. "Lucia, instead of worrying about me, why don't you focus more on your work?"
"Have you done all the notifications I asked you to?"
The person at the door didn't respond.
Adeline furrowed her brows in confusion and instinctively looked up.
Standing at the office door was the tall and imposing Jasper.
At that moment, he was standing there with one hand in his pocket and the other holding a breakfast.
Seeing her look up at him, Jasper curled his lips indifferently. "What, do you want me to send the notifications to you?"
Adeline furrowed her brows and continued working. "Mr. Foster, are you here to inspect my work and see if I'm slacking off?"
Adeline's voice was extremely cold. "Rest assured, from the moment I arrived at the office until now, I haven't slacked off for a moment. I won't take your salary for nothing."
Seeing Adeline's thin body and worn appearance, Jasper slightly furrowed his brows.
Taking a few steps forward, he placed the breakfast on her desk. "I admit I was a bit harsh this morning."
"But Adeline, I want to know, what could make you stay up all night despite having work the next day?"
Adeline's hand, holding the pen, paused abruptly.
This question coming from Jasper's mouth was truly ironic.
Utterly ironic.
He had tormented her so much last night, and not only did he not acknowledge it in the morning, but he also blamed her for staying up late and not resting well.
Now, he asked her, with a concerned look, what could make her stay up all night despite having work.
Could she tell him that what kept her up all night was him?
Closing her eyes, Adeline took a deep breath, suppressing the emotions about to burst out, and closed the file in her hand. "Anyone can ask me that question, but you..."
She glanced at Jasper and sneered, "Can't."
With that, Adeline grabbed her files and strode out of the office.
Adeline's thin back made Jasper's eyes narrow slightly.
Adeline could be inexplicably stubborn at times.
Sighing, Jasper glanced at the breakfast on the table that she hadn't even looked at, feeling inexplicably irritated.
It was as if he were that neglected breakfast, completely excluded by her.
Just as Jasper was about to leave, a loud 'bang' sounded from outside.
Then came Lucia's shocked voice.
"Adeline!"
"Adeline fainted!"
