Chapter 60 When I was Six
"The young boy looked at Jasper with determination. “So, Mr. Foster, please don't disappoint me.”
The little guy took out his phone firmly and deleted all the evidence stored on the cloud drive.
He was gambling.
He was betting that Jasper would stand up for Lauren and Mommy.
What he saw on Jasper's computer that day had puzzled him.
Perhaps this incident could help him figure out if Jasper truly loved Mommy deeply or if he was just deceiving himself.
Watching him delete the backup, Jasper smiled faintly and asked, “Do you trust me this much?”
Bennett looked up with a sly gaze and replied, “Do you think you are not trustworthy?”
“I'm just curious. If I was lying earlier, and if I couldn't deal with Molly, what would you do?”
Bennett raised the juice to his lips and took a sip. “In that case, I believe Mr. Foster would lose a lot.”
The little guy placed the empty glass down, hopped off the chair, and said, “I have nothing else to say, so I'll leave now.”
Bennett waved his hand and left without looking back.
Standing behind Jasper, Ryan watched in shock as the young boy walked away. “Is he really just six years old?”
Why did he feel like this little guy was more mature and composed than him?
It was terrifying.
The fact that this little guy was Adeline's son scared him even more.
Jasper picked up his coffee and took a sip. “I was pretty much the same when I was six.”
Indeed, intelligent people are all the same, and fools have their own ways of being foolish.
Ryan glanced at the tablet on the table. “Should we take this to the police station now?”
“No rush.” Jasper picked up the tablet and squinted as he examined it.
“Just keep an eye on Molly for now, but don't do anything to her yet.”
Ryan froze. “What?!”
Ryan had always been on Molly's side before, but it was only because she was Jasper's fiancée.
But now, all the evidence was right in front of them. Molly had almost killed Lauren twice.
In this situation, Jasper actually asked him not to do anything to her!
“Do you have any objections?”
“No... none.” Ryan hesitated for a moment but couldn't hold it in. “But sir, Miss Collins has done some truly outrageous things. Aren't you... being too lenient?”
Jasper closed his eyes and tapped his fingers on the table. “Adeline said something that made sense before. Adeline sent Lauren to me and said that sometimes, for the sake of love, we must be patient. But she refuses to meet me because I hurt her deeply before.”
“But, by indulging Miss Collins like this, you are disregarding Lauren's safety. Isn't that even more hurtful to her heart?”
“Hmm.”
Jasper still had his eyes closed. His sharp jawline moved gently. “If you were her, what would you do?”
“I would take Lauren away,” Ryan answered firmly.
Jasper finally opened his eyes and glanced at him indifferently. “You got it right.”
He stood up. “We'll increase the security. We need to keep an eye on Molly on one hand and protect Lauren on the other.”
After saying that, Jasper walked out of the café.
Ryan remained in place, utterly confused.
…
Adeline didn't know what method Blake used to comfort Lauren, but these past few days, when Lauren visited the hospital to see Adeline, she neither cried nor made a fuss. She even expressed that she would take care of herself proactively.
Adeline felt an emptiness in her heart, as her daughter suddenly matured overnight.
But now that Lauren's issue was resolved, she needed to tackle Molly's situation.
However, Molly seems to have disappeared into thin air these days.
The news said that Molly was sick, so she postponed a few film appointments to rest at home.
She didn't even attend the award ceremony she valued the most.
And the information from Brandon's people was: Molly has been staying at home recently, and Jasper's people are protecting her.
Adeline looked at this message and felt lost for a moment.
Why would Jasper protect her?
Could it be that they're afraid someone might do something to her?
Wasn't it Molly who was scheming against others?
Adeline smiled bitterly, with a hint of mockery on her face.
So Jasper is this cautious when it comes to someone he truly likes.
Even though Molly schemed against his biological daughter, even though Molly almost caused his daughter's death several times, he still worries about Molly's safety, cancels Molly's public works, and assigns people to protect her near her home.
This is the same as the man who was once willing to give up his life for Molly in her memory.
Didn't he act like this six years ago?
What is there for her to be surprised about now?
“Adeline.”
Suddenly, someone knocked on the door to the hospital room.
Adeline quickly put away her phone and looked up.
Standing at the doorway of the room was Ryan in white attire.
She frowned. “Is everything okay?”
“Tomorrow is Grandma Foster's birthday banquet.” Ryan coughed lightly.
“Mr. Foster wants to let you know that it would be best to go out and do some shopping today. Mr. Foster will announce Lauren's identity in front of everyone tomorrow, so she should dress more formally.”
“Alright.” Adeline knew she needed to prepare Lauren properly.
After all, starting tomorrow, Lauren would be living with the Foster family all by herself.
Tomorrow's birthday banquet was not only the day for Lauren to reveal her identity but also the day she would become independent.
And so, Adeline decided to take Lauren shopping.
Every time something happened before, she was the one who took Lauren out. This time they went to the mall, with more than ten bodyguards following closely behind.
Adeline was always busy when abroad and never had the chance to go shopping with Lauren.
Once they arrived at the mall, the little girl ran around like a busy bee in the clothing department.
Until...
“Who is this child that just bumped into me and made me fall!”
“I... I'm sorry.”
Adeline, who was picking out children's shoes, heard the voice and quickly walked over. “What happened?”
Seeing her approach, Lauren immediately rushed into her arms, tears welling up in her eyes. “I... I accidentally bumped into this grandma.”
“So careless!” Adeline reprimanded her and then looked up. “Are you okay?”
With Adeline's support, the woman on the ground stood up. “I'm fine.”
The familiar voice made Adeline widen her eyes in an instant.
She took a closer look, and her whole body froze, as if she were struck by lightning.
The person Lauren had bumped into was none other than her biological mother, Helen Allen!
“Mom, why are you so slow?”
Molly's voice came from afar."
