Chapter 796 Exactly the Same as When She Was a Child
Mia's voice made Oliver stretch lazily as he got up from the couch with a grin.
He put on his Bluetooth headset, listening to Mia's angry voice on the other end, and couldn't help but smile.
Even he didn't know why hearing Mia's voice always lifted his spirits.
Maybe it was because hearing her get mad meant she was healthy and full of life?
He shifted into a more comfortable position, leaning back on the couch with his eyes closed, chuckling softly.
"If I cared about dignity, I wouldn't have let Dennis take the kid over."
Miles away in Radiance Springs, Mia was so furious her face was almost twisted with rage.
"Oliver, you jerk!"
She glanced at the baby in the incubator, counting the days on her fingers.
"This baby... was conceived before you and I were together?"
"Who's the mother? Why isn't she taking care of her own kid? How many other women do you have besides her?"
Oliver smirked. "You'll find out who the mother is when the time is right."
"There's a reason she's not taking care of the baby herself."
"As for other women..."
Oliver elegantly poured himself a glass of water.
"Besides Joseph and this baby, there's only you."
Mia rolled her eyes. "You think I'll believe that?"
Three times and two kids? Even a sharpshooter wouldn't be that accurate.
"Believe what you want."
Oliver's voice was calm. "Just take good care of the baby for me."
Mia pouted, feeling frustrated that Oliver had another child, but trying to act indifferent.
"And what's in it for me if I take care of the baby?"
Oliver's lips curved into a smile. "Take good care of her, and I'll marry you."
"Who cares!"
Taking a deep breath, Mia looked at the baby in the incubator again.
She was so tiny, but her eyes were bright.
Mia didn't consider herself a woman who liked children, but this baby... she couldn't bring herself to dislike her.
Sighing, she pursed her lips. "Maybe I should take the baby to Oceancrest City."
"Adeline's baby is due soon, too. It might be nice to raise them together."
"No." Oliver glanced upstairs towards Adeline's room.
"Her baby... didn't make it."
Mia was stunned.
She heard her own voice as if from a distance.
"How could that be?"
Adeline had been so careful with her pregnancy.
She even checked the nutritional content of everything she ate.
She had been so diligent for seven or eight months! How could this happen...
"It's a long story."
Oliver took a deep breath. "But don't worry about her. I've got it covered here."
"Just take care of the baby for me."
Mia frowned. "I haven't agreed to anything yet..."
Oliver didn't let her finish and hung up the phone.
Listening to the dial tone, Mia was so angry she almost threw her phone.
Damn Oliver!
What did he think she was? Did she owe him something? And taking care of the baby in exchange for marriage?
Even if every man on earth died, she wouldn't marry that jerk Oliver!
After venting her anger, she still worried about Adeline.
Mia looked at the baby in front of her.
Oliver was right. Adeline, who cared so much about her own baby, would be heartbroken seeing this one.
After a moment of hesitation, she finally dialed Linda's number.
After hanging up on Mia, Oliver leaned back on the couch and closed his eyes.
Mia's furious voice still echoed in his ears.
Oliver's lips curved into a smile, and he could almost picture her small, flushed face in a fit of rage.
In the end, he couldn't help but laugh out loud.
That feisty Mia was quite adorable when she was angry.
Adeline had been lying in her bedroom for two days.
During that time, she did nothing but stare at the ceiling, except for eating, drinking, and using the bathroom.
Oliver, worried about her, tried everything to cheer her up, but the pain of losing a child wasn't something his limited emotional experience could soothe.
Just as Oliver was at his wit's end, Adeline's phone rang.
It was Linda.
"Adeline," Linda's voice, filled with concern and worry, came through the line.
"I'm at the Oceancrest City airport!"
Adeline was taken aback, her brows furrowing. "You... came to Oceancrest City?"
"Yes."
Linda sighed, "You went through something so big and didn't tell us, just bearing it all alone?"
"When I had my miscarriage, you were there for me. How could I not come to be with you now?"
"Give me your address, and I'll take a cab over!"
Adeline was silent for a moment. "It's pretty hard to find my place."
"How about I have my brother Oliver pick you up?"
Linda paused, about to agree, but then she saw David and Jasper waiting outside the airport.
"Maybe... there's no need for your brother."
Jasper would know Adeline's address.
And she didn't know Oliver.
Though she didn't want to see David, she preferred not to trouble a stranger.
Adeline understood Linda's meaning after a moment of silence.
"Alright, I'll wait for you."
After hanging up, she finally got up from bed, asking someone to find her a nice outfit.
She hadn't seen Linda in a long time and didn't want her to see how disheveled and worn out she was.
Seeing Adeline finally get out of bed, Oliver sighed in relief.
Once Adeline was dressed, he helped her slowly walk to the door.
Soon, a black sports car pulled up.
Linda, dressed in white, was the first to get out.
It had been a long time since they last saw each other. Not only had Adeline become more haggard, but Linda had also lost weight.
The two friends, who hadn't seen each other in ages, hugged tightly, both too choked up to speak.
After a while, Linda sniffled and helped Adeline walk slowly into the house.
Leaning against the car, Jasper watched Adeline's frail figure being supported by Linda, a hint of melancholy in his eyes.
"Her friend really understands her."
Oliver sighed, thinking about his futile efforts over the past few days, and couldn't help but laugh at himself.
"If I'd known her friend would make her feel better, I would've called her sooner."
Jasper smirked. "You don't know Linda."
"But I know Mia."
At the mention of Mia, Jasper glanced at Oliver.
"I heard you sent Mia a baby to take care of?"
"Whose child is it this time?"
Oliver rubbed his nose. "Word travels fast, huh? You already know?"
"Everyone in Radiance Springs knows. The White family's daughter Mia has a love child."
Jasper fiddled with his keychain. "Blake, Bennett, and Lauren went to see the little girl this morning."
"Lauren said she looks just like she did as a child and suspects she's her half-sister. She wants me to arrange a DNA test."
Jasper's words made Oliver's expression freeze.
