Chapter 697 She Will Eventually Return to My Side
Overnight, Jasper bought up a dozen small companies in Oceancrest City.
Each of these companies was tied to the Phoebe family's pharmaceutical and fragrance businesses.
Adeline scribbled down the names and contact numbers of these companies from the news on TV, confused.
Why was Jasper suddenly buying up so many businesses connected to the Phoebe family?
It seemed like he was targeting the Phoebe family specifically.
But she reassured herself, thinking that maybe Jasper was just taking the chance to deal with the Phoebe family while he was in town to see her.
After all, they were old enemies. If the Phoebe family knew Jasper was in Oceancrest City, they wouldn't let him off easy either.
Thinking of this, she wanted to see him even more.
After jotting down the numbers, Adeline borrowed a phone from Brandon and started calling each company.
Some customer service reps didn't bother talking to her, while others thought she was a scammer.
Adeline spent the entire morning making calls, but none of the customer service reps were willing to pass her message up the chain.
She felt a bit hopeless, but she didn't give up.
After lunch, she kept making calls.
Brandon's eyes darkened slightly as he observed her anxious and stubborn demeanor.
After a moment, he chuckled softly, looking at Adeline, "How about I invite Jasper to the Torres Mansion?"
Adeline shook her head silently, "No."
Although Brandon used to be the head of the Torres family, after the incident, the family's attitude towards him had visibly worsened.
Just this morning, he got cold stares from the family for speaking up for her.
If he invited Jasper to the Torres Mansion for her, Adeline couldn't imagine the consequences.
But despite all the calls, she still couldn't reach Jasper.
Just then, another news report came on TV.
The news mentioned that Jasper would be meeting with the Phoebe family's biggest business partner tonight at the Celestial Garden Restaurant downtown.
Seeing Adeline look up at the news, Brandon smiled faintly, "So, shall we go to the Celestial Garden Restaurant tonight?"
Adeline nodded firmly.
After a moment, she turned to Brandon, "Can I even get out?"
"You can't go alone, but if you take me, you can." Brandon laughed softly, looking at Adeline with gentle eyes, "With me here, don't worry."
Adeline nodded, got up, and poured Brandon a cup of coffee.
Watching Brandon drink his coffee, Adeline felt a mix of emotions.
Brandon had done so much for her.
But she couldn't even fulfill her initial promise to marry him.
She owed him more than she could ever repay in this lifetime.
If she ever had the chance, she would spare no effort to help Brandon recover his legs.
If that wasn't possible, she would bring her three children and Jasper to the Torres Mansion to express their gratitude.
The agonizing afternoon passed.
At five in the evening, Brandon had the servant help him get dressed and ready in his wheelchair, then had Adeline push him out the door.
As they left Brandon's courtyard, they ran into Fiona and Randy, who were admiring the scenery and flowers at the main house entrance.
Randy, with his sharp eyes, spotted them immediately.
He sneered, "Brandon, where are you taking your fiancée?"
The term "fiancée" made Adeline frown uncomfortably.
But before she could speak, Brandon, sitting in his wheelchair, sighed lightly, "Randy, don't talk nonsense. Adeline hasn't agreed to marry me yet."
Randy sneered, "But she will eventually. If she doesn't marry you, it's only because you're a cripple, and even the person you saved back then despises you."
He glanced at Adeline's face, raising an eyebrow, "Isn't that right?"
Adeline bit her lip, saying nothing.
Fiona glanced coldly at Adeline and Brandon, then looked down to feed the sunfish in the pond, "It's getting late, almost dinner time. Where are you going?"
Brandon smiled, "Adeline just got back to Oceancrest City and isn't used to it yet. I'm taking her out for a walk."
"A walk?" Fiona turned her head, her eyes fierce as she looked at Brandon, "Are you afraid people in Oceancrest City don't know you're a cripple? Taking this woman out to embarrass yourself! Get back inside!"
She ordered the bodyguards nearby, "Send these two back. From now on, without my permission, they are not to leave the Torres Mansion!"
"Grandma." Brandon quickly spoke up, "If you want Adeline to stay and marry me, you can't treat her like a prisoner in this house. We just want to go for a walk. Why are you stopping us?"
Fiona snorted, "Until she agrees to marry you, I won't let her leave this house!"
With a glance, the bodyguards moved to send them back to the courtyard.
The bodyguards grabbed Adeline, nearly tearing her clothes.
Adeline struggled to protect her clothes, shouting, "Mrs. Torres, we're just going for a walk!"
Fiona stared at her. "A walk? Don't think I don't know. Jasper is already in Oceancrest City today! Let me tell you, since Brandon went through so much trouble to bring you back, we won't let you leave easily!"
Adeline bit her lip hard.
She did want to see Jasper.
But she never thought of leaving Oceancrest City!
At that moment, Adeline's clothes were torn open from the struggle, exposing her skin to the air.
"Adeline!"
Brandon, in his wheelchair, seemed to go mad, getting out of the wheelchair.
With a thud, Brandon fell to the ground.
Adeline, being pulled by the bodyguards, widened her eyes in shock.
After falling, Brandon dragged his immobile legs, slowly crawling towards Adeline, "Don't touch her!"
Adeline's heart ached and was shocked. She pushed away the two bodyguards and rushed to Brandon.
She helped him up, "Why did you get down?"
"Sorry." Brandon smiled awkwardly, "I was so impatient that I forgot I was disabled."
He whispered in Adeline's ear, "Tell them you need to take me to the hospital. Celestial Garden Restaurant is near the hospital."
Adeline bit her lip, looking up at Fiona and Randy, "Get the car ready! I'm taking him to the hospital!"
They exchanged a look, reluctantly arranging a car to take Adeline and Brandon to the hospital.
At the hospital, while the doctor examined him, Brandon smiled bitterly at Adeline, "Celestial Garden Restaurant is next door. Remember to come back for me."
Adeline nodded firmly, put on a coat to cover her torn clothes, and left the hospital quickly.
Watching her leave, the doctor sighed while examining Brandon's legs, "Mr. Torres, it's clear her heart isn't with you. Was it worth it to end up like this for her?"
Brandon watched Adeline's departing figure, smiling, "Even if her heart isn't with me, she'll come back to me eventually."
