Chapter 538 You Kidnapped Her
Hearing the busy tone on the phone, Adeline felt like her mind was spinning out of control.
She had no clue what Jasper might do to Blake. From the way Jasper sounded when he barged in earlier, it seemed like he was out for blood. Had he already figured out she had escaped and that Blake was involved?
Adeline leaned against the headboard, clutching her phone so hard her knuckles turned white. Her mind was racing.
Would Jasper hurt Blake? And if he did, what could she possibly do?
The more she thought about it, the more freaked out she got. But she didn't dare call him. What if Jasper hadn't realized she was gone yet? Calling him would just blow her cover.
As she was lost in her thoughts, Linda walked in with a tray of food. Seeing Adeline's pale face, Linda set up the small table and frowned. "What's on your mind?"
Adeline looked up and spilled about Blake's call. "I'm scared Jasper's already onto us."
"He probably isn't," Linda said after a moment, patting Adeline's shoulder and handing her a spoon for the chicken soup. "Don't worry. We've got eyes and ears in Radiance Springs. If Jasper knew you were gone, he'd be tearing the place apart. We haven't heard anything yet."
Linda's words finally eased some of Adeline's anxiety.
Adeline nodded. "Alright."
If Jasper started looking for her, it would definitely cause a huge scene.
Thinking about this, Adeline lowered her head and started sipping the chicken soup. She hadn't eaten since she saw Blake and Lauren yesterday, so she was starving.
As the warm soup went down, Adeline felt a bit more human.
After finishing the soup, Adeline suddenly remembered something and looked up at Linda. "Yesterday, you mentioned the woman who took my place in the mental hospital owed me something?"
Adeline smiled. "I don't remember anyone in Radiance Springs owing me anything."
Linda looked surprised, then smiled. "Honestly, I don't know who she is either. She came to us saying she owed you and wanted to take your place. Apart from her age, she looks a lot like you. We double-checked to make sure she was serious. Then we took her in."
Linda scratched her head. "Yesterday was crazy, and we couldn't find anyone else. She just showed up, so we didn't ask too many questions."
Adeline pursed her lips, trying to figure out who this mystery woman was.
Linda said, "Don't stress about it now. If the mental hospital figures out she's not you, they probably won't give her a hard time."
Linda advised Adeline, "Focus on getting better first. You look like a mess!"
Adeline sighed, knowing this was their best option for now. She was still worried about Blake but didn't dare contact him.
After Linda left, Adeline lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep. Finally, she grabbed her phone and started browsing the news to distract herself.
Before she knew it, she stumbled upon news about Evelyn's disappearance.
The news video showed surveillance footage from an ice cream shop near the water park yesterday.
In the footage, Evelyn was seen entering the ice cream shop with Blake and Lauren.
Half an hour later, only Blake and Lauren came out of the ice cream shop. Evelyn had vanished.
No matter how hard the police tried, they couldn't figure out where Evelyn went.
At the end of the video, Scott's fake tears were on full display. He sobbed in front of the camera. "My wife and I have been together for years and just got married a few years ago. She's still so young. How could this happen? Her phone, wallet, and keys were all left in the hotel. We can't reach her at all. The only clue we have is this video. But the two kids in the video deny ever seeing my wife."
Watching this video made Adeline's heart race. How did Evelyn know Blake and Lauren? And how did Evelyn just disappear?
They couldn't reach Evelyn through any means; there were no records of her leaving Radiance Springs, and not a single trace of her could be found.
Adeline closed her eyes. Wasn't this just like when she was locked in the mental hospital? No matter how Mia and Violet searched, they couldn't find her.
Suddenly, Adeline's eyes snapped open. She remembered what Linda had said before! The woman who took her place was older; they were similar in build. She even said she owed her.
Could it be that the person who went to the mental hospital last night to replace her was Evelyn? Thinking of this, she quickly saved Evelyn's photo from the news and sent it to Linda.
Adeline: [Was it her last night?]
Linda: [It was her.]
Linda replied quickly: [Right, I just remembered. She asked us to call her Evelyn last night.]
Looking at Linda's reply, Adeline felt her mind go blank with shock. The person who replaced her last night was Evelyn. So, Evelyn being with Blake and Lauren yesterday was not a coincidence. Her disappearance was indeed related to Blake and Lauren! And the stern, questioning tone Jasper had on the phone just now was probably because of Evelyn!
Thinking of this, Adeline became even more restless.
Evelyn, Linda, and David were all reached out by Blake. So, the mastermind behind her rescue last night was Blake!
If Jasper found out, how would he treat this six-year-old child?
Blake was neither Bennett nor Lauren, and his interactions with Jasper were fleeting. There existed no semblance of father-son affection or interaction between them.
Adeline closed her eyes, feeling a stabbing pain in her heart.

Jasper threw the tablet playing the video onto the sofa, his eyes cold as he looked at Blake. "Getting bolder, aren't you? Hiding people and kidnapping Evelyn?"
Blake sat across from him, holding a notebook. He met Jasper's gaze fearlessly. "I don't know what you're talking about, Mr. Foster."
Jasper looked at Blake coldly, his voice colder than winter's ice. "You know better than anyone!"
Jasper narrowed his eyes. "Dr. Smith's team is leaving Radiance Springs today. If they leave, it will be very difficult to bring him back to change Adeline's mental evaluation. So, you pretended to take Lauren to the water park yesterday, but your real goal was to get close to Evelyn, who was staying at the Aurora Grand Hotel. You kidnapped her. This way, you have leverage to threaten Dr. Smith into changing Adeline's mental evaluation and releasing her, right?"
