Chapter 407 She Went to the Hospital for an Emergency
Jasper's words made Adeline see red.
She balled up her fists, teeth grinding, and for a hot second, she wanted to strangle him.
Adeline thought, 'How can he be such a cold-hearted, shameless jerk? Talking trash about his own kid like it's nothing? What did I ever see in this guy?'
But she knew she couldn't afford to piss him off.
Her hands kept clenching and unclenching at her sides.
Finally, she looked up. "Mr. Foster, I get it."
For Blake's sake, she had to suck it up.
Adeline forced a smile and looked at him. "Anything else you need? If not, I gotta get back to work."
Without waiting for Jasper to reply, she turned to leave.
She couldn't stay in front of him any longer. She was scared she'd either start bawling or rip him apart.
"Wait." Just as Adeline's hand touched the doorknob, Jasper called out to her.
Adeline's fingers tightened around the knob, her knuckles going white.
She swallowed her emotions. "Mr. Foster, something else?"
Jasper's cold voice came from behind. "Take this with you."
Adeline took a deep breath and turned around.
On his desk was a small bottle of iodine. He must've just grabbed it from the first aid kit.
Looking at the bottle, Adeline felt nothing but irony.
Adeline thought, 'He broke my heart, and all he offers is this tiny bottle of iodine? Who's he trying to fool?'
"No thanks." She didn't take it. "I got plenty in my office. Someone like me ain't worth Mr. Foster's time."
With that, she turned to leave.
Watching her go, Jasper narrowed his eyes, a mocking smile playing on his lips.
Jasper thought, 'How could I not know her inner struggle? But Luna is Blake's lifeline.'
Not to mention, Luna approached Adeline with good intentions. Even if she had ulterior motives and everything she did was calculated, for Blake's sake, even he had to endure. Let alone Adeline?
He didn't mind Adeline misunderstanding him; he just wanted to keep her from clashing with Luna. At least, until Blake's surgery, they needed to keep the peace.
After a long while, Jasper sighed and pulled out his phone. "Ryan."
Jasper asked, "How's Luna doing? And what about Vikram?"
On the other end, Ryan was silent for a moment before speaking, "Ms. Jones met Mr. Das just after she went downstairs. Looks like they know each other. Now, Mr. Das is taking her to the hospital."
Jasper frowned slightly. "Let him be."
The Das family was in a financial mess and sent Vikram over to reconnect and test his attitude, hoping for his help if needed.
Vikram, eager to suck up to him, would inevitably extend his flattery to Luna as well.
With Vikram tagging along, Jasper wasn't worried about Luna getting into any trouble.
Jasper exhaled deeply and sat back in his chair. "Have someone keep an eye on Luna, just in case."
When Adeline got back to her office, there was a small bottle of iodine on her desk. It was the same as the one she had seen in Jasper's office.
Adeline thought, 'Did Jasper really send this over? What a hypocrite!'
She squinted, picked up the bottle of iodine, and was about to chuck it in the trash.
Just then, Lucia walked in, saw what she was doing, and quickly stopped her with wide eyes.
"Adeline, what are you doing?" Lucia exclaimed.
"Aren't you hurt? Robert sent this iodine to help you clean your wound."
Adeline's hand holding the iodine froze for a second.
She put the iodine back on the desk. "So it was from Robert."
Adeline thought, 'Makes sense. Jasper telling me to treat my wound was just for show. No way he'd actually care enough to send iodine over.'
Lucia asked, "Who did you think it was from?"
Lucia sighed, put down the files in her hand, and thoughtfully took the iodine to clean Adeline's wound. "I know you're not feeling great right now."
"Luna's been here for two days, and you've already clashed with Mr. Foster twice. Now the whole company is buzzing that you got chewed out by Mr. Foster for going after Ms. Jones."
"Adeline, you should probably steer clear of Luna as much as you can."
"Otherwise, every time Mr. Foster sides with her, your rep in the company is gonna take a hit."
Adeline responded faintly.
She got the logic. But staying calm with Luna's constant provocations was easier said than done.
Just then, her phone buzzed.
It was a message from Violet.
Violet: [Adeline, the volunteer's at the hospital and signing the agreement!]
Violet: [My friend said the volunteer will be there for another half hour because after signing, they need signatures from other hospital leaders and then record a video to confirm the donation!]
Violet: [It takes about twenty minutes to drive from your office to the hospital. If you leave now, you can make it!]
Reading the message, Adeline shot up from her chair, startling Lucia.
"Adeline, what's wrong?" Lucia asked.
"I have an urgent matter at the hospital," Adeline replied.
She glanced at the time. "Please help me take a leave of absence."
With that, Adeline grabbed her coat and bolted out.
Lucia, still holding a cotton swab soaked in iodine, watched her go and sighed helplessly.
Lucia thought, 'Even in a rush, Adeline should've treated her wound.'
She sighed, cleaned up the spilled iodine and other items from Adeline's earlier actions.
Just as she finished and was about to leave, the office door opened again.
Thinking Adeline had returned, Lucia sighed. "I told you to treat your wound before leaving."
But it was Jasper at the door.
"Mr. Foster?" Lucia called.
Jasper responded indifferently, placing the iodine he was holding on Adeline's desk. "Where is she?"
Lucia was stunned for a moment before quickly replying, "Adeline just left in a hurry, said she had something urgent to do."
Jasper's brows furrowed tightly. "She has something urgent?"
"Yeah," Lucia replied.
Lucia thought for a moment. "She mentioned going to the hospital."
Jasper's eyes suddenly darkened!
Luna was at the hospital signing the donation agreement. Adeline said she had something urgent at the hospital. Damn it!
