Chapter 613 Stop the Car!
"If you're sure Lauren and Blake won't get hurt going with you, then yeah, I'm cool with it."
Adeline smiled, gently ruffling Bennett's hair. "I'm actually really glad you're getting close to them."
She sighed, tossed the used tissues and cotton swabs into the trash, and put away the first aid kit before heading out.
Bennett lay on the bed, watching her leave, his lips pressed together.
If Blake and Lauren really went out with him tomorrow, he'd protect them with his life. That was the trust the four of them had in him. Integrity and principles mattered.
Bennett closed his eyes. He couldn't imagine how heartbroken Adeline would be if Molly was right and none of the kids were actually hers.
The next day.
At breakfast, Bennett brought up the idea of getting Molly's hair and nails for a DNA test. Jasper didn't object. In fact, he had Ryan assign a team of bodyguards to go with them.
Adeline was happy to see the kids getting along. Even though getting Molly's stuff was risky, she trusted Bennett and Jasper's team.
After breakfast, Bennett set off with Blake and Lauren.
"Going out to play!" Lauren, in a little dress, was super excited, hopping around like a little bird. "I haven't gone out to play in forever!"
Blake sighed and followed her. At the door, he turned to Jasper, who gave him a gentle smile. Blake nodded and closed the door behind him.
Adeline, sitting on the sofa, listened to the car start outside, her brows furrowed. "I thought you'd object."
Adeline wanted Bennett, Lauren, and Blake to get along, but she still felt getting Molly's DNA was too risky for the kids.
Jasper picked up his laptop, watching the little red dot on the map move away, a slight smile on his lips. "It's a good chance to train the kids. Why pass it up? Plus, there might be unexpected gains."
Adeline glanced at him. "What unexpected gains?"
Jasper hesitated, then smiled. "Bennett's trust in us."
Seeing Adeline still confused, Jasper explained. "He's a smart kid. He knows we'd consider the dangers for Blake and Lauren. But none of us objected, showing our complete trust in him."
Adeline paused. "So he'll trust us because we trust him?"
Jasper smiled without saying a word. He thought, 'Of course not, Bennett's reason is too flimsy.'
Using the excuse of getting hair and nails for DNA testing to take the kids out was a stretch. But for a six-year-old, it was the best choice he could make on short notice.
Jasper knew Bennett was doing this because of Molly's demands. Just like last time on the beach, when Bennett hesitated with a knife, unsure whether to harm him.
Bennett's nature hadn't changed; he was still the most sensible, gentle, and kind child he and Adeline knew. Molly had something on Bennett, forcing him to follow her orders.
So last night, Jasper and Blake had a long talk in the study and decided to let Blake and Lauren take the risk.
Jasper wanted to free Bennett from Molly's threats and manipulation once and for all.
The car drove for what felt like forever.
Lauren's initial excitement turned into boredom as she sat in the back seat. She rested her head against the window, watching the scenery pass by, her mind buzzing with questions.
She turned to Bennett, "Weren't we going to a hotel?"
Why was the car heading further off course, almost reaching the outskirts of Radiance Springs?
Bennett checked the address on his phone, his lips tight. "We'll be there soon."
Molly had given him an address in a remote area. He had his doubts, but she said large DNA testing facilities needed lots of space, and city rents were too high.
Bennett bought it and didn't question the address further. But the car was driving into more and more desolate areas. Where was this large lab?
Lauren, getting anxious, asked, "Liam, did you take us the wrong way?"
Bennett bit his lip, looking at the large building in the distance. "No, we're not lost. That research facility is up ahead."
"That's an abandoned factory that's been empty for years," Blake said, holding a tablet. "Liam, does your mother Molly live in an abandoned factory?"
Bennett's mind exploded. An abandoned factory? They were supposed to go to a research facility for a DNA test. Why were they heading to an abandoned factory?
Yesterday, Molly sounded so sad on the phone, saying she really wanted to see her children and that he had to bring Blake and Lauren today. Was it all a lie?
Bennett bit his lip, gripping his phone tightly. He messaged Molly: [Mother, we're almost there, but why is the address wrong? The address you gave me doesn't have a large research facility.]
Molly replied quickly: [Stop talking nonsense. Just bring them here. Who are you to question me?]
Bennett was stunned. Molly had deceived him. She made him think they were going for a DNA test. But in reality, it was to bring Blake and Lauren here to be kidnapped!
If Molly had planned the kidnapping, she must have known Blake and Lauren weren't her children!
Bennett bit his lip, recalling Adeline's smile last night when she agreed to let him take Blake and Lauren out, and Jasper's easy agreement at breakfast, his grip on his phone tightening.
Their whole family trusted him so much. Bennett thought that by doing a DNA test and finding out the truth, he could bring them back home.
But now, as they neared the abandoned factory, he felt a deep sense of guilt. He had betrayed their trust, gritting his teeth and looking up at the driver. "Stop the car!"
