Chapter 415 Who Wouldn't Be Afraid?

“Then what’s up with her...”

She shot Jasper a frosty glare, feeling more and more sarcastic as she spoke, "I told you so much, but all Mr. Foster cares about is that I said Luna was faking her illness, right?"

Jasper was caught off guard, totally speechless.

Seeing Jasper's unsure look, Adeline felt like a fool.

How could she ever think Jasper would actually listen to her, that he'd get how hurt she felt when he ignored her at the mall? He never saw her, never.

So no matter how pathetic or helpless she was when she almost got beat up at the mall, he ignored it.

All he heard was her saying Luna was faking it.

So what else was there to say between her and him?

She was really lowering herself, getting hurt by him over and over, yet still thinking he had some basic decency and morals. Taking a deep breath, Adeline raised her bloodshot eyes. "I want out of the car. Jasper, let me out of the car!"

She yelled angrily, pulling out her phone. "If you don't let me out, I'll call the cops! Not just the cops, I'll call your Ms. Jones and let her know her man came to see me so late! I bet you can't explain that!"

As she spoke, Adeline even opened her phone contacts.

Jasper was stunned.

He thought, 'No way! I can't let her call Luna! The surgery is just a few days away; nothing can go wrong now!'

Thinking this, Jasper didn't even think twice and leaned over from the driver's seat, roughly grabbing Adeline's hand.

Adeline's phone hit the car window, bounced onto the seat, and finally slipped into the gap between the cushions.

When the phone fell, both Jasper and Adeline were shocked.

He hadn't expected the phone to fly out with just a little force, while she didn't expect that just by threatening him a bit, he'd actually lay hands on her!

The car went dead silent.

At that moment, a gentle voice from Luna came from the phone that had fallen into the gap between the seats. "Is this Ms. Wilson?"

Adeline was stunned.

She didn't actually want to call Luna; she had just opened her contacts to scare Jasper into letting her out of the car.

But she hadn't expected Jasper's reaction to be so strong, nor had she expected that in the moment he grabbed her phone, she'd actually dial the number.

Coincidentally, it was Luna, who was at the top of Adeline's contacts list due to her last name.

"Ms. Wilson?" Seeing that Adeline didn't speak, Luna on the other end of the phone laughed gently. "Did Jasper come to see you?"

Luna's words made both people in the car hold their breath.

Adeline pursed her lips, giving Jasper a cold look. "No. Ms. Jones, I'm sorry to bother you so late. I hit the wrong button, and now my phone is acting up. You should hang up."

After Adeline finished speaking, Luna on the other end of the phone laughed. "Ms. Wilson, if Jasper came to you and said or did something he shouldn't have, please don't blame him. He feels guilty towards you. This afternoon at the fresh market, if it weren't for my sudden illness, he would have definitely rushed to save you. After all, you were once married and had children together. He wouldn't just watch you get beaten. Today's incident is all my fault."

Luna's voice was all soft and weak. "Jasper just rushed out of here. He said he was going to work, but I bet he went to find you. He probably still blames me. It's all my fault. If only I hadn't gotten sick. Ms. Wilson, please don't hold any grudges against Jasper for what happened this afternoon. It's not that he didn't want to save you; considering what went down, he must be feeling super guilty for not coming to your aid. Luckily, you weren't hurt this afternoon. If something had happened to you, I'd feel really bad."

Adeline closed her eyes, listening to Luna's half-truths, a cold smile creeping on her lips. "Ms. Jones, you're overthinking it. Jasper didn't come to see me."

Adeline took a deep breath, shooting a cold look at Jasper in the driver's seat. "We ended a long time ago, and he made it clear he wouldn't pay for Blake's medical expenses. Blake and I have nothing to do with him anymore. To me, he's just a boss at work. Outside of work, we're strangers. I won't hold a grudge against a stranger, nor will I be mad at him for not helping me when I'm in trouble. But if I were Jasper, I'd never shamelessly go to someone's house after seeing my subordinate getting bullied."

After saying that, she narrowed her eyes coldly, "Also, Ms. Jones, you don't seem to know Jasper very well. He might feel guilty for doing something wrong to others. But towards me, he will never feel guilty. Lastly, I hope Ms. Jones can keep your man in check. It's better for him to be at home with you so late. Don't let him come to someone else's house and make a fuss."

As Adeline spoke, she reached into the gap between the car seats, following the sound and the faint light, and touched the edge of the phone.

When she touched the phone, Luna continued, "Ms. Wilson, you misunderstood Jasper."

Before Luna could finish, Adeline had already grabbed the phone. "Sorry, Ms. Jones, I have nothing more to say to you. Goodbye."

She coldly cut Luna off and hung up the phone.

Putting away the phone, Adeline let out a long breath, realizing the car was so quiet it was suffocating.

"Adeline." Jasper's hands were gripping the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles white.

He stared straight ahead, each word seeming to be squeezed out, "Did you mean what you just said?"

Adeline laughed coldly. "What else? Does Mr. Foster think I would kindly say these things to avoid misunderstandings between you and Ms. Jones?"

Jasper said, "But you did hide it."

Adeline said, "I hid it not because I was afraid of affecting your relationship, but because I  worried about my own reputation."

Adeline sneered. "Mr. Foster should know that Ms. Jones is hostile towards me, right? If I admitted on the phone that you came to see me, Ms. Jones might cry and make a fuss with you, and it would be over in a night. But what about me? Ms. Jones would hold a grudge and look for opportunities to retaliate against me at work."

Jasper also sneered. "You're afraid of an intern retaliating against you?"

Adeline laughed mockingly. "On Ms. Jones's first day at the company, Mr. Foster wanted to fire my three assistants for her. Today is the second day, and Mr. Foster almost punished Lucia for Ms. Jones. I'm not afraid of an intern retaliating, but the intern has Mr. Foster as a big backer. Who wouldn't be afraid?"
