Chapter 113 She's Not Worthy to Be My Opponent
Just moments ago, when she mentioned Molly, he distinctly saw the hatred in her eyes.
But she and Molly had no prior interactions; they only shared their past work at Blue Bay as staff.
Could it be because of Lauren?
She had no real connection with Lauren; it was simply the relationship between an employee and the employer's daughter.
He didn't believe this calculating woman could genuinely hate Molly because of Lauren.
"Mr. Foster, I'm the one setting the terms here, not you," said Adeline, turning her face away to avoid his captivating eyes. "All you need to tell me is whether you agree."
Jasper stared at her almost perfect face and furrowed his brows ever so slightly.
After a moment, he gave a soft nod.
With a light chuckle, Adeline stepped aside, allowing Jasper to leave. "Thank you, Mr. Foster."
"I'll join you for lunch and agree to any requests you make within the week."
"You'd better remember your words."
With those cold words, the man strode out of the office.
Listening to the fading footsteps in the hallway, Adeline took a deep breath and closed her eyes.
In her pocket lay a newly purchased voice recorder and a pinhole camera.
Since Helen didn't believe Molly would do such a thing to Lauren, she would make Molly confess it herself!
...
"Father."
When Jasper reached the living room downstairs, Ethan Foster sat on the couch, sipping coffee.
Setting his coffee cup down, Ethan threw the newspaper onto Jasper.
It hit the marble floor with a crisp snap.
Jasper glanced at it.
The image of him walking into the corporate building with Adeline was on the front page headline. The headline read, "The Fall of the Devoted Man? Jasper Announces New Girlfriend Today."
A slight smile tugged at his lips.
He picked the newspaper up and placed it on the coffee table. "What's up?"
"What's up?" Ethan's eyes were icily fixed on him. "I hired Adeline to work at the company partly because of her skills and also to be Lauren's tutor! And look at what you've done—you've started dating her! Are you planning to marry her next!?"
Jasper settled his gaze and sat across from Ethan Foster, gracefully pouring coffee with a light chuckle, his voice lazy. "Is that not allowed?"
"Of course, it's not allowed!" Ethan Foster fixed his gaze on Jasper. "Don't forget, Jasper, you've been betrothed to Evelyn Quinn from your Uncle Mo's family since you were kids!"
"When you married Adeline back then, I wasn't thrilled, but I didn't voice any objections."
"A few days ago, you told me you were waiting for Lauren's biological mother to return, and I didn't stand in your way."
"But now!" With streaks of silver in his hair, Ethan raised his hand and struck the coffee table vigorously. "Now you've thrown another Adeline into the mix!"
"What the hell are you trying to do? Evelyn Quinn has been waiting for you in silence all these years, and it's not like you don't know that! Now, not only did you not wait for Adeline, but you didn't even marry Molly. You're still not considering her! What's so great about this Adeline?"
Jasper lifted his head calmly and glanced at Ethan Foster. "But Dad, just the other day, when you had me hire her at the company, you sang a different tune. You said Adeline was gentle, kind, and talented and that it would be a big loss if I didn't keep her."
"You also said I couldn’t find another woman who understands Lauren and is as suitable for her as Adeline?"
The man's long fingers gently tapped the table's smooth surface, his lips curling slightly. "It's only been a few days. Have you already forgotten, Dad?"
Ethan Foster's chest heaved with anger. "That's not what I meant!"
He wanted Jasper to keep Adeline because he knew she was a mastermind like Moon; he admired her talent!
But that wasn't to say he wanted Adeline and Jasper to be together!
Evelyn had been devotedly waiting for Jasper all these years. If Jasper were to consider anyone besides the Guevara sisters, she should be the first!
With these thoughts, Ethan Foster looked up and glared coldly at Jasper. "I don't care; since you've opened this topic, you can accept a woman other than the Guevara sisters."
"I'm going to Evelyn's family in the next few days to bring Evelyn Quinn back and have her stay at Blue Bay!"
"That place is rightfully her turf!"
With that, the man huffed to his feet and strode out.
Jasper remained seated on the couch, not going after him nor countering his words.
Ryan furrowed his brows. "Sir, will you let your father move Miss Quinn into Blue Bay?"
The man shifted to a more comfortable position on the couch, glancing in the direction where Ethan Foster had left. "Let him be."
"Knowing Evelyn Quinn as I do, she won't come."
Evelyn Quinn was always so full of pride, carrying herself with an air of disdain for just about everything.
When he was marrying Adeline, Miss Quinn, with her air of nobility, said she would wait for him to divorce and beg her hand.
After the accident with Adeline and his engagement to Molly, she claimed she would be waiting for the day he would come to regret and propose.
She set herself on a pedestal for years, declaring she'd be waiting for his approach.
Why would such a woman move into his house just because Ethan Foster said a few words?
Besides, even if Evelyn Quinn moved into Blue Bay, it might not necessarily be wrong.
...
Leaving the Foster Group's headquarters, Ethan Foster grew increasingly angry.
Finally, he turned around, returned, and took the elevator straight to the design department.
The design department was eerily quiet.
Adeline had just returned from the CEO's office when Lucia called her into hers.
"Adeline, your current position is delicate; you shouldn't draw attention.People are watching you. Now, more than ever, you need to work hard and show everyone your capabilities so that they realize you can handle the responsibilities of being a design assistant."
With that, she slammed a thick stack of blueprints on the table. "There's a lot of errors in these drafts.Take them and have them corrected by the end of the day."
After speaking, Lucia raised an eyebrow at Adeline with a smug look. "This is all in your job description as an assistant; I'm not singling you out."
Adeline just smiled faintly at her condescending attitude.
She never expected to be pushed around in the design industry as a newbie.
But it was okay; having work was always a good thing.
She picked up the stack of blueprints and returned to her desk.
Next to her, Mia Turner was in shock.
Her eyes widened as she glanced at the few drafts before her and then the pile in front of Adeline.
"They're giving you a hard time on purpose!"
"How can you possibly get this all done by the end of the day?"
Adeline's smile turned into a sly grin. "She said to get it done by the end of the day but didn't specify which day."
After saying that, she casually glanced at the messy drafts on Mia Turner's desk.
The woman sighed, exasperated, grabbing the blueprint and placing it on her stack of sketches. "I'll handle it."
Mia Turner hesitated. "I can do it myself…"
"The more you try to fix it, the worse it gets."
Adeline's lips curved into a faint smile, her voice soft. "I thought journalists, before going undercover, would pick up some basic knowledge."
At that, Mia felt her body freeze.
She bit her lip. "What else do you know?"
