Chapter 565 Your Nightmare Is About to Begin

"You! Of course!"

Before Adeline could respond to Jasper, Mia, who was nearby, gave a faint smile.

She flopped into a chair, her lips curling with a hint of coldness.

"Mr. Foster, do you think you are some kind of hero for helping Adeline, saving your own son, and looking after her for a few days?"

She took a sip from her wine glass and went on.

"Who brought a woman he barely knew to live in his house right after his own son died?"

She added, "Who rushed home to see Luna the moment he woke up after Adeline had been taking care of him for three days?"

"Who ignored his son after a major surgery and stuck by Luna's side the whole time?" She wouldn't let up.

"And who sent Adeline to a mental hospital, making her lose a finger?" She shot a cold look at Jasper.

"Mr. Foster, just because Luna's dead now doesn't mean we can forget what you did."

The small garden felt colder. Jasper squinted his eyes.

Each of Mia's questions was like a dagger to Adeline's heart. She knew Mia was standing up for her, but these were memories neither she nor Jasper wanted to revisit.

Taking a deep breath, Adeline glanced at Jasper. "Can't answer, Mr. Foster?"

Jasper stared deeply at Adeline. Truth was, he never liked Luna. Everything he did for her was just to save Blake.

But before he could say anything, Adeline cut him off. "It's fine if you can't answer, Mr. Foster. I didn't expect you to explain your past."

She added, "But I hope you realize the awful things you've done far outnumber mine, so you have no right to call me rude for not inviting you."

Earlier that afternoon, Adeline had thought about inviting Jasper.

After all, if it weren't for his quick actions on the cliff, she and Blake wouldn't be here today.

But she decided against it, knowing he didn't like crowds or noise, and her friends didn't think much of him.

It wasn't that she didn't appreciate him. She planned to visit the Foster Group to thank him personally after today.

But he showed up as Lucia's friend. Since he was already here, she couldn't just kick him out.

Adeline took a deep breath. "It's not that you're not welcome, Mr. Foster. Just follow basic etiquette and respect the host's wishes."

As the tension grew, Lauren, in Jasper's arms, took a deep breath and broke the silence. "Got it, Mommy! Lauren will make sure Daddy doesn't say anything to upset everyone!"

Lauren quickly grabbed an orange slice and stuffed it into Jasper's mouth.

"Daddy, eat more and talk less!"

Lauren's sweet little voice softened Jasper's cold expression a bit.

He looked down, playing with Lauren's pigtails while munching on the orange. "Thanks, Lauren."

"You're welcome."

She blinked and pointed to the couple's seat that had been empty.

"Daddy, that's your and Lucia's seat."

Jasper glanced at the seat, which was barely big enough for one and a half people, and his eyes darkened.

This seat was clearly meant for couples.

He looked up and shot Adeline a cold glance.

"Ms. Wilson, did you really pair me and Lucia as a couple?"

Adeline took a deep breath and glanced at Vikram.

"Didn't you say Lucia was bringing her boyfriend?"

Vikram remembered. When Adeline asked if Lucia was bringing her boyfriend, he seemed to have said yes.

Finally, David, who had been quiet, sighed and looked at Jasper.

"Alright, it's just a small misunderstanding. Let's eat together."

Jasper squinted his eyes but didn't say anything.

Adeline turned and looked at Lucia, who was standing at the garden entrance, looking scared.

"Come in."

Lucia bit her lip and cautiously walked to the couple's seat and sat down.

When Adeline walked over to set her utensils, Lucia couldn't help but lower her voice. "I didn't mean to do it. It was Mr. Foster."

Adeline smiled faintly and softly said, "It's okay."

She never blamed Lucia. After all, Lucia was just an employee. She had no choice but to do what Jasper asked.

The dinner continued.

Because Jasper took Mia's seat, Vikram, whose seat was taken by Mia, had to squeeze into the couple's seat with Lucia.

With Jasper's presence, they couldn't joke around anymore and quietly ate their food.

The dinner wrapped up in less than two hours.

After seeing off the last guest, Adeline returned to the small garden and looked at Jasper, who was still sitting in the corner with a gloomy face.

"Mr. Foster, it's late. Aren't you leaving?"

Jasper looked up and glanced at her. "Ms. Wilson, have you forgotten? This is Blue Bay. It's my property."

Adeline frowned. "What do you mean?"

"I'm planning to stay in my house tonight." His deep eyes locked onto Adeline's face. "Is that not allowed?"

Adeline took a sharp breath.

She was about to say something when Alice rushed into the garden with a large bouquet.

"Ms. Wilson, someone sent you flowers."

Adeline frowned and took the bouquet. It was a large bunch of baby's breath, which was Bennett's least favorite flower.

There was also a beautifully packaged card on the flowers.

Adeline opened the card in confusion. It had only one sentence: [Celebrate well. Your nightmare is about to begin.]
