Chapter 604 I Will Never Forgive You
Realizing he had messed up, Ryan clammed up.
Adeline's brow furrowed again. "Ryan."
She turned to him, serious as ever. "I'm asking you a question."
Ryan took a deep breath and let it out slowly. He kept his eyes on the road, struggling to drive through the downpour, and spoke in a low voice. "When you had that car accident in the heavy rain, I was with Mr. Foster in Neon City, talking business.
"When Mr. Foster heard about your accident, he thought it was a joke.
"When he realized it was real, he immediately canceled the most important meeting for the Foster Group, left the overseas partners in Neon City, and rushed back to Radiance Springs with us.
"Because Mr. Foster didn't attend that partner meeting, the Foster Group's overseas business took a hit."
Ryan sighed as he spoke. Back then, he was just a fresh grad, a newbie assistant working for Jasper.
He saw Jasper's stubbornness, madness, and breakdown up close. He thought Jasper was just an emotionally unstable guy.
In the past six years, that was the only time Jasper lost it.
The longer Ryan stayed by his side, the more he realized just how important Adeline was to Jasper.
Thinking of this, Ryan took another deep breath. "After your accident, Mr. Foster came back and searched the cross-sea bridge and nearby waters for a week in the heavy rain.
"When he finally accepted that you were gone, he would often come to the cross-sea bridge and stare at the spot where the car fell.
"Later, he started locking himself in his room and drinking every day.
"That's when his stomach problems started."
The car gradually approached the cross-sea bridge.
Through the heavy rain, Adeline could already see the figure sitting in a wheelchair on the bridge.
Adeline's heart sank heavily.
She had heard these words many times before. But she never believed them. She thought they were all lies.
She didn't believe Jasper would go to such lengths for her.
He didn't love her, nor did he even like her; she never had a place in his heart.
But at this moment, listening to Ryan's words and looking at Jasper's figure on the bridge, she felt a strange emotion suddenly surge in her heart.
Soon, the car reached the cross-sea bridge.
Jasper sat quietly in the wheelchair, facing the spot where she had fallen.
Behind him, Tim and Tom were already soaked but still holding umbrellas for him.
Adeline took the umbrella Ryan handed her and got out of the car.
"I told you I'm fine, why are you here again?" Hearing the car door open, he spoke without turning his head, "Did Blake and Lauren have a fight with Liam?"
Ryan stood silently behind Adeline for a moment before speaking. "No, I just went back to check, and the three of them are getting along quite well. Lauren has been persuading Liam to eat more. But Blake doesn't seem to like him much. Blake is just too sensible."
Jasper sighed, his eyes fixed on the bridge and the sea ahead. "I thought a lot last night, and it really is all my fault, I can't blame anyone else. If I had been a better husband, things wouldn't have turned out this way. Adeline wouldn't rather believe Molly than trust me. The triplets wouldn't be so suspicious of each other at just six years old."
Ryan glanced at Jasper, who had been standing silently, and sighed, "Sir, it's not all your fault."
Jasper sighed, looking at the heavy rain and the distant sea. "I've always wondered, does it hurt falling into the sea from here? Can I survive? If I endure the same pain she did that day, will she forgive me?"
"No." Suddenly, a single cold word interrupted Jasper.
He was stunned.
After a moment, he turned around in surprise.
Behind him, under Ryan's umbrella, Adeline stood there, looking at him with cold arrogance.
A trace of embarrassment flashed across Jasper's face, but it disappeared just as quickly.
He frowned and glanced at Adeline, "Why are you here?"
"Lauren asked me to come." Adeline looked at him, expressionless. "Lauren was afraid her father would jump off the cross-sea bridge like I did back then, so she called me to come and check."
Her eyes were cold with a hint of sarcasm. "I thought Mr. Foster, a man with a heart of stone, wouldn't do something so foolish. Didn't expect I overestimated you."
Jasper frowned at her, saying nothing.
"But Jasper, I want to tell you." Adeline took a deep breath, looking at his face. "Even if you jump, I won't forgive you. I'll still hate you. No matter how many times you try, I won't forgive you."
Jasper squinted at her, giving a bitter smile.
In fact, he wasn't here to jump. He knew that death wouldn't solve any problems.
Last night's Adeline made him feel despair.
From birth to adulthood, to becoming the president of the Foster Group, the most prominent figure in Radiance Springs, Jasper was born with every advantage, always the golden boy, looking down on everyone from the top.
Nothing had ever made him feel sad, helpless, or desperate.
Except for Adeline.
Six years ago, he first felt what it meant to be in excruciating pain.
Six years later, he felt deep helplessness and despair again.
Adeline's decision and words last night made Jasper realize that in this world, not everything he wanted could be obtained just because he had the ability.
Her trust and feelings for him had vanished with the car accident six years ago.
Jasper came here, looking at the bridge that changed his fate, feeling like God was playing a joke on him.
A woman who once adored, loved, and trusted him so much. How could she become like sand slipping through his fingers, like water he couldn't hold on to?
After a while, Jasper looked up and met Adeline's eyes. "Then Adeline, what do I need to do for you to let me explain?"
The longing for forgiveness in his eyes deeply hurt Adeline. She had never seen him like this.
He was always proud and indifferent.
This was the first time she saw such an expression.
Taking a deep breath, she turned her face away, not daring to look at him. "Jasper, if you were involved in the car accident back then, I will never forgive you."
