Chapter 129 She's Back!

When Adeline mentioned their eldest, Geoffrey Collins furrowed his brow. "If she cared about this family, she would've come back long ago!"

"She played the mysterious one. She sent her daughter back but didn’t show up herself," Helen chimed in, her eyebrows knitting together. "Miss Wilson, we're discussing our younger daughter here. There's no need to bring up the eldest."

"Right," Geoffrey urged, redirecting the conversation. "Miss Wilson, we're talking about Molly's situation.

"Just keep your son in line and stop him from spreading rumors. We'll pay whatever amount you ask for.

"After all, Jasper is our son-in-law; money isn't the issue."

Adeline had a moment where she didn't want to acknowledge these middle-aged people before her as her biological parents.

"All the money in the world wouldn't interest us!" retorted Bennett, his brow tense as he took Adeline's hand, glaring at the couple. "Molly might be your precious treasure, but I'm my mom's! How dare you ask my mom to look the other way? We won't ignore this!

"I’ll not only tell the truth to the police, but I'll also let everyone know that Molly is a bad woman! Also, stop bothering my mom! I recorded everything you just said! Stop bugging us unless you want me to play it for the police."

With that, the kid yanked Adeline's hand, and they strode towards the police station.

Just before entering, Adeline instinctively looked back. Geoffrey and Helen stood there, still stunned by Bennett's harsh words. As the wind blew through their graying hair, she closed her eyes, feeling a wave of helplessness rise within her.

"Miss Wilson, Master Bennett."

Their case was handled by a young and attractive policewoman who greeted them with a smile. "About yesterday's incident, I hope you can give us an accurate account."

Adeline composed herself, following the officer's lead, and recounted the previous evening's events with Bennett.

"The suspect, Molly, has requested to see you," said the officer afterward, organizing her files, and asked casually, "Would you like to meet with her?"

Adeline hesitated for a moment, then smiled. "Let's meet."

If things went as expected, this would be the last time she saw Molly before the trial.
After settling Bennett, Adeline followed a police officer into the visitation room to meet with Molly.

Just yesterday afternoon, Molly was a patient in a mental hospital, raving mad.

Today, she was a suspect behind bars.

Adeline gracefully took a seat across from her, "Miss Collins."

"Miss Wilson."

Molly studied her flawless face for a moment and then chuckled, "Your face is just impeccable.

"Even upon close inspection, there's not a trace of your past self. That must have cost a pretty penny, your surgery?"

A hint of annoyance flickered across Adeline's brow.

"Should I call you Miss Wilson, or should I use the term from our past and call you 'sister'?"

Molly's gaze intensified. "I should have realized. You, of all people, wouldn't just send your daughter back alone while you hid.

"It turns out you weren't hiding at all. You were just wearing a mask disguised as someone else."

Her gaze was fixed on Adeline's face. "Aren't you tired?"

Adeline narrowed her eyes slightly.

Clearly, Molly had seen through her disguise.

There was no longer any need to pretend.

The woman offered a wry smile, "Not as tired as you.

"You pretended to be a loving sister in front of me, but behind my back, you poisoned our parents' minds against me, tirelessly scheming to take everything I had. Compared to that, you must be more exhausted, right?"

Her words turned Molly's face pale for a brief moment.

Molly let out a sigh, her smile laced with contempt, "In six years, is that all you've figured out?"

She shrugged, "I'll admit, this time you and that kid outplayed me, but that doesn't mean you've won."

Leaning forward, with her chin propped on her hands, she scrutinized Adeline with a sly glance, "Sister, you're not very sharp.

"Transforming yourself beyond recognition, not a single mark left on your face, your body—there’s no sign of Adeline.

"If there's no trace of Adeline, how will you prove who you are? How will you get back to Jasper?"

Adeline's brows furrowed, and she smiled coldly. "Why would I want to return to Jasper's side?"

Molly scoffed, "If you don't go back to Jasper, how will you protect your children?"

As Adeline opened her mouth to respond, Molly's cold voice cut her off.

"Time's almost up."
The woman lifted her head, her gaze settling on a wall clock hanging in the visiting room behind Adeline. "By now, the real Adeline should have made it to Blue Bay."

She turned her attention back to Adeline's face, a cold smirk playing on her lips. "It's fine if you don't admit you're Adeline. Someone else will acknowledge it for you. And by the way, they'll take care of your child, too. What do you mean?"

Molly gave her a wicked smile. "It means that I may have lost, but Adeline, you haven't won either."

She paused briefly, "My mistake, you are Adeline."

With that, she called out to the guard outside, "I'm ready to go back!"

As the guard escorted Molly away, Adeline furrowed her brows, a foreboding feeling rising within her.

...

Blue Bay

Jasper leaned back on the couch, his eyes fixed on the text of the forensic report lying on the table, his gaze deep and thoughtful.

"The handwriting analysis confirms that the same person wrote the two samples."

After a moment, he set aside the report, and a wave of inexplicable agitation washed over him.

Considering the results of this analysis, along with what the doctor said at the hospital yesterday, a conclusion was forming, pressing heavily against his chest—on the verge of revelation.

It was becoming clear.

Adeline was indeed Adeline!

Drawing a deep breath, his excitement palpable, he spun around to ask, "Ryan, has she been released from the police station yet?"

Ryan, who stood by the door, nodded, "The driver said they haven't come out yet."

"I'll go get her!"

Jasper stood up quickly, his emotions surging as he reached for his coat. Just as he was about to take a few steps, the butler rushed in through the door, his approach brimming with urgency.

Excitedly, he ran up to Jasper.

"Sir! Madam!

"The madam, she's returned!

"She's waiting just outside now!"

Jasper's dark brows knitted together fiercely, "What, madam?"

"Your wife, sir!

"Adeline! She's back!"
