Chapter 680 I Misunderstood You!
Rex's face went as pale as a sheet.
The missing piece of gauze from his wrist had been swallowed by that old hag, Lily!
He'd thought it had fallen off when the nurse was changing his bandages and had given her a real earful for it.
After all, this special gauze was something only he could afford in all of Radiance Springs, a symbol of his status!
But what he didn't expect was that the missing gauze was actually in Lily's stomach.
Lily, that old hag, was truly despicable!
Even in death, she couldn't let people have peace!
"This is a setup!"
Nathan glanced at Rex's pale face and immediately knew the truth behind Jasper's words.
But he refused to back down. "Jasper, how dare you frame Rex! He has been honest and timid since he was a kid. He wouldn't kill anyone, let alone his own grandmother!"
As he spoke, he shot a cold glance at Adeline, who was standing beside Jasper.
"Maybe it was Adeline who stuffed the gauze in there when she killed your grandmother, trying to frame Rex! You two are in cahoots; there's nothing you wouldn't do!"
Nathan's words caused an uproar in the room. The reporters started buzzing with discussions.
If Adeline had stuffed the gauze in before killing Lily, then Adeline was truly terrifying!
"That's not the case."
Suddenly, a clear child's voice rang out in the room.
Everyone turned to look.
In the corner, a little boy, dressed in a white suit, adjusted his small glasses on his nose and spoke seriously.
"Everyone. I looked at the contents and the composition of the stomach acid on the gauze. If the deceased had been forced to swallow something before dying, the stomach contents wouldn't be so calm."
The boy continued, "Clearly, the data shows that the deceased swallowed it voluntarily, and quickly, possibly without the killer even noticing."
The boy crossed his arms and concluded, "So, the gauze wasn't forced down her throat. The killer is Rex."
The room erupted in chatter.
Nathan stood on the stage, his face turning livid.
"You little rascal! Whose kid are you? Where are your parents? How dare you in here to spout nonsense? Get out!"
The boy smiled, "My parents are out looking for someone. I was bored and came to watch the excitement."
He cleared his throat, "Let me introduce myself. I'm Joseph Phoebe, six years old, a detective novel enthusiast, and the vice president of the World Detective Association."
He raised an eyebrow, "Are you telling me to leave because you're feeling guilty?"
Nathan's face turned even darker.
Joseph elegantly adjusted his bow tie and was about to say more when an elderly man with white hair rushed in.
"Mr. Phoebe, you've wandered off again!"
He picked Joseph up and apologized to everyone before hurriedly leaving.
As he was being carried out, Joseph couldn't help but continue speaking calmly, "If you don't believe me because of my age, you can consult a professional forensic expert. No matter how many you find, the results will be the same."
Joseph's voice faded away in the hallway outside the room.
Mia frowned and adjusted her dress.
The elderly man had accidentally bumped into her while carrying Joseph out.
Looking down, she noticed a jade ring had fallen at her feet.
Though she didn't know much about jewelry, the jade ring looked valuable.
Could it have been Joseph's?
She frowned, picked it up, and put it in her pocket.
After all, Joseph had helped Adeline and Jasper.
And she had memorized his little face in one glance.
Once this was all over, she would find him and return it.
On the stage, Nathan and Rex were thrown into disarray by the sudden appearance of Joseph.
But Nathan still retorted, "A kid's words aren't enough to convince anyone!"
"Would you like to hear the real forensic report?" Jasper smirked and played a video on his computer.
The video showed several forensic experts who confirmed two critical points: the gauze was swallowed voluntarily, and DNA comparison revealed that the blood on the gauze belonged to Rex.
Rex and Nathan's faces turned even paler.
"Do you still want to deny it? No problem, I've gathered all the evidence." Jasper continued opening files.
"Our investigation found that Rex was not in the hospital when his grandmother had her accident. An hour after the incident, Rex returned to the hospital room with unidentified bloodstains. He claimed he had reopened his own wound, but the nurse kept his bloodstained clothes instead of discarding them. Upon examination, it was found that the bloodstains belonged to his grandmother."
As Jasper finished speaking, the main doors of the room opened.
A team of police officers marched in.
Seeing the police, Rex's face drained of all color.
He bit his lip, turned to Nathan, and his voice trembled with tears:
"I told you! I would never kill anyone, never! You forced me to wear rubber gloves to kill Lily and frame Adeline! Now look what happened! Not only will I go to jail, but I might also have to pay for Lily's life; it's all your fault, all your fault."
Nathan frowned, looking at the now collapsed and crying Rex, a cold glint in his eyes.
He walked over and squatted down.
Nathan raised his hand and, to everyone's shock, slapped Rex hard across the face.
"So it was you who killed your grandmother! Rex, I really misjudged you! Your grandmother treated you like her own grandson! And you did something so vile! Not only did you frame your sister-in-law Adeline, but you also tried to drag me into it! I love my mother so much; how could I conspire with you to harm her!"
Nathan stood up, his chest heaving with anger.
"Officers, please arrest this vile person and give him the harshest punishment! Otherwise, how can I face my mother!"
After saying this, he took a deep breath, turned to Jasper, and tightly shook his hand, tears and snot streaming down his face.
"Jasper, I misunderstood you!"
