Chapter 461 Getting More and More Impressive
Adeline thought Vikram was gonna take her for a chill ride in a convertible, soaking up the night breeze.
But nope, as soon as they hit the outer ring road, Vikram floored it.
Adeline had never felt speed like this. Her heart was pounding so hard, she thought it might just jump out of her chest!
She clutched the door handle and shot a look at Vikram. "Slow down!"
"Relax, nothing's gonna happen!" Vikram grinned. "This is how you really unwind!"
And with that, he pushed the pedal even harder.
The night wind whipped through, tossing Adeline's long hair around. After the initial shock, she started to get used to it and even began to enjoy the rush.
"Feels good, right?" Vikram chuckled, noticing she wasn't freaking out anymore. "Feel like all your stress is gone?"
Adeline nodded. It was like an extreme sport, and all her stress just vanished. But the fun didn't last long. On their third lap, a bunch of cars full of young people started tailing them.
Adeline could see in the rearview mirror that the other cars were packed with folks around Vikram's age, each with a girl riding shotgun.
Adeline frowned and glanced at Vikram. "Let's head back."
She felt all her stress was gone, and sticking around might spell trouble.
"What, you scared?" Vikram knew exactly what was on her mind.
Just as he was about to speed up, the other cars boxed them in. "No one told you this place is ours after 10 PM?"
Vikram smirked. "Really? You guys must not be that famous; never heard of you."
"You!" The guy who spoke looked pissed, but before he could say more, another dude got out of one of the cars, giving Adeline a once-over and smirking at Vikram. "Wanna race?"
Vikram, full of youthful energy, couldn't back down from a challenge. "Sure!"
"If I win, you guys scram," Vikram said.
The guy asked, "And if you lose?"
Vikram glanced at their souped-up rides and grinned. "If I lose, you get this million-dollar sports car. Deal?"
The young guys' eyes lit up instantly.
"Let's do this!" With that, they all jumped back into their cars, ready to race.
Adeline frowned at Vikram. "Are you nuts?"
Didn't he just say he was broke and needed Jasper to invest? Now he's betting a million-dollar car? Are all young people this crazy?
Vikram smirked. "Chill. If I'm betting, I'm sure."
He tightened Adeline's seatbelt. "Hold on tight."
At the signal from the roadside girl, Vikram's car shot forward. This time, they were going even faster.
Adeline gripped the door handle, feeling the wind rush by as she watched the other cars fall behind in the rearview mirror. Vikram left them all in the dust, finishing a lap in no time.
Vikram casually brought the car to a stop, glancing back at the red-faced dudes. "I won. Tonight, this road's mine."
The young guys couldn't handle the smack talk, so they surrounded Vikram, yelling about how they were gonna beat him up.
Adeline rubbed her temples, feeling helpless. She had a bad feeling this would happen when they boxed them in. And now, here they were.
But Vikram? He wasn't scared at all.
In fact, he even raised an eyebrow at Adeline. "Fighting's another way to blow off steam. Wanna join? If not, no biggie. I can handle it quick."
Adeline sighed. She wasn't into fighting, but after her surgery, the doc had suggested martial arts to help her recover. She'd never actually thrown a punch, but tonight's situation called for it. She couldn't let Vikram get pummeled alone. After all, he brought her here to help her de-stress.
Adeline took a deep breath, stretched a bit, and got out of the car with Vikram. But she wasn't totally confident in their fighting skills, so she secretly dialed 911 before stepping out.
Seeing Adeline join Vikram, the young guys laughed. "Both of you? We're the kings of Silverleaf Avenue in Radiance Springs. We won't stop till we've beaten you to a pulp for being so cocky!"
The call was still connected.
The cop on the other end frowned. "There's a fight on Silverleaf Avenue."
Half an hour later, the cops showed up.
A bunch of the so-called kings of Silverleaf Avenue were already sprawled on the ground, unable to get up.
Adeline and Vikram had some scrapes and bruises, but nothing major.
The cops frowned and hauled everyone to the station.
After giving their statements, Vikram couldn't help but smile at the bruises on Adeline's arm and the scratches on her face. He sneakily snapped a photo of her. Despite the injuries, she still looked stunning. In fact, she looked more alive than ever.
Without missing a beat, Vikram took a selfie and posted both pics on New Feed: [Fighting's another way to relax; it can make you feel young again. But it's so late! Is anyone even coming to bail us out?]
Meanwhile, over at Emerald Crest Estate, Jasper's phone buzzed softly on his desk.
It was a message from Luna: [Jasper, I'm going to sleep; you should rest early too.]
Jasper coldly replied: [Goodnight.]
After sending the message, Jasper, who never browsed New Feed, randomly opened it.
The first post he saw was from Vikram.
He clicked on Adeline's photo. She was in a light blue dress, no makeup, with fresh fight wounds. Yet she looked unexpectedly charming. She was vibrant and lively, not like the mother of a six-year-old.
Jasper narrowed his eyes slightly.
So late at night, she went racing with Vikram and even got into a fight? Adeline was really getting bolder!
Thinking this, he coldly put down his phone and tried to get back to work. But he couldn't focus on a single word of the documents on his desk. Finally, he closed the files and picked up the phone.
Jasper: "Ryan, get the car ready. We're going to the police station."
