Chapter 545 No, I Don't Trust You
Jasper had just hung up when the phone rang again. It was Lily's number.
He knew exactly who'd be calling at this hour.
With a sigh, Jasper picked up.
"Mr. Foster," Blake's icy voice came through. "I heard you went to Neon City. Did you see our mom?"
Jasper's eyes narrowed a bit.
Last night, he had taken away all of Blake and Lauren's devices and sent them with Lily to the countryside. The signal out there was terrible, making it hard to reach the outside world. The only way they could communicate was through Lily's phone. Yet, Blake still found out Jasper had gone to Neon City to see Adeline.
Jasper stayed silent, and Blake pressed on. "Mr. Foster, I know the signal here sucks, but I made a booster and got friendly with the neighbors to use their network. Don't pretend you can't hear me just to dodge my question. How's our mom?"
Jasper sighed. "She's fine."
"Don't make things hard for her," Blake said, his voice serious. "Remember, I rescued her, approached Evelyn, and contacted Linda and David. Don't blame our mom. If you wanted to point fingers, it is on me."
Jasper's breath caught.
After a moment, he let out a wry smile. "Do you really see your dad as a villain?"
"Pretty much," Blake sighed. "Mr. Foster is far from the dad I imagined."
Jasper's breath hitched. "What kind of father did you imagine?"
Blake replied, "At the very least, not someone who'd believe others saying my mom is mentally ill and lock her up in a psych ward."
Blake sighed again. "Since you've found her, take good care of her. If you want to hold someone accountable, come after me."
With that, Blake hung up.
Jasper held his phone, letting out a deep sigh. Had he really messed up?
As he was thinking, Ryan rushed over. "Mr. Foster, Adeline is awake. She wants to see you."
Jasper frowned and headed to the ward.
In the pale room, Adeline leaned against the headboard, looking just as pale. When she saw Jasper, she looked up, her gaze indifferent. "Take me back to Radiance Springs."
Jasper glanced at the tubes and IV needle, frowning deeply. "Not now."
At the very least, he needed to wait until her condition stabilized. Neon City was far from Radiance Springs, and she had just come out of the emergency room. He feared she couldn't handle such a long trip.
Adeline shook her head. "I want to go back."
She looked up and smiled at Jasper. "Didn't Dr. Smith say that if he didn't see Evelyn by tomorrow morning, he'd file a lawsuit accusing Lauren and Blake of kidnapping his wife? Lauren and Blake are only six years old."
Jasper cut her off coldly, "Even if he reports it, the police won't file a case. Just focus on getting better."
Adeline shook her head. "There are already rampant discussions online about Blake and Lauren. Everyone thinks they're mature for their age and already criminals."
Jasper furrowed his brows. "Who said that?"
"Everyone is saying it," Adeline chuckled. "Luna keeps giving interviews, saying that even though Lauren and Blake are only six, they're more mature than adults."
She sneered. "Mr. Foster, don't you know?"
Jasper's eyes darkened, and he quickly picked up his phone to check the latest news from Radiance Springs. There was nothing about what Adeline had mentioned.
Sensing something was off, Jasper grabbed Ryan's phone. Same thing—no news about Evelyn being kidnapped.
Finally, Jasper took David's phone, who had just entered the room. Sure enough, Jasper and those around him had their phones infected with a virus that blocked this news.
When Jasper got David's phone, he saw the video Adeline had mentioned. Netizens were spreading Luna's interview everywhere.
Jasper watched the interview, his eyes growing darker. The only person who could have implanted a virus in his and Ryan's phones to block this news was Luna.
While giving the interview, she subtly defended the kids with seemingly harmless statements that were actually veiled criticisms, all the while blocking news updates on both his and Ryan's phones. Luna intended to subject Blake and Lauren, two six-year-old kids, to online attacks!
Jasper suddenly understood Adeline's worry and anxiety. Luckily, he had already sent Lily to take Blake and Lauren to the countryside yesterday. Otherwise, given how much Blake and Lauren liked to go online, they would have been hurt by those comments.
Thinking of this, Jasper's voice deepened. "I'll go back to Radiance Springs to handle this. You stay here and recover."
Adeline firmly shook her head. "I want to go back and handle it myself."
Jasper, who was about to leave, paused slightly. He turned back, frowning at Adeline. "I will handle it. Blake and Lauren are my kids too. I won't let them suffer from online abuse."
Jasper glanced at the medical monitors beside Adeline's bed. "You need to stay here and recover."
"I want to go back." Adeline looked at him, her gaze resolute. "I can only be at ease if I handle it myself."
Blake and Lauren were only six years old. They had a long life ahead of them, and she couldn't let them bear such accusations at such a young age.
With this in mind, Adeline raised her hand and directly pulled out the IV needle from the back of her hand, getting out of bed. Blood seeped from her fingers.
Jasper's pupils contracted. He quickly stepped forward and grabbed her. "Are you crazy? I said I would handle the kids' matters! Why do you have to go back yourself? Your body is already very weak!"
Jasper picked her up and placed her back on the bed, pressing the call button. "Don't you trust me?"
Adeline looked up, her gaze fixed on him. "No, I don't trust you."
