Chapter 750 What's Wrong with You?
It was a stormy night in Oceancrest City.
At the airport, a plane touched down.
Jasper, who had just woken up, forced himself to walk off the plane.
Having been bedridden for a week, his legs were shaky.
But he insisted on walking out of the airport on his own and got into the car.
"We should have enough time," Bennett said, glancing at his watch.
There were still thirty minutes until the banquet started.
Although the heavy rain would slow down the driving speed, fortunately, the Phoebe family's banquet venue wasn't far from the airport.
Thirty minutes should be enough.
"Ryan already messaged us from the plane, saying he and David have arrived," Blake said, checking his phone. "They mentioned there seems to be a small issue at the venue..."
Blake frowned and put his phone down. "I don't know what the issue is, but if there's a problem, it's better for us."
Lauren nodded, clasping her hands together in silent prayer. "We have to make it in time."
Over the past seven days, although they had been encouraging Adeline through messages, Lauren had noticed that Adeline was almost completely disheartened with Jasper.
She wanted to tell Adeline that Jasper was actually injured.
But Blake said the situation in Oceancrest City was complicated, and people were saying Jasper had insulted the herbalist and Adeline with wild grass.
If she rashly told Adeline that Jasper got injured while gathering herbs, it would likely cause more trouble.
So, for the past seven days, Lauren stayed by Jasper's side, hoping he would wake up and handle everything himself.
She thought she was going to fail, but unexpectedly, Jasper woke up on the plane!
The doctor said Jasper's body couldn't take any more strain and needed rest.
But now... there was no time to worry about that!
Lauren looked out at the pouring rain through the car window and silently closed her eyes in prayer.
Please, please.
This time, they had to bring Mom home with them!
Soon, the car arrived at the banquet venue.
The weak Jasper had the doctor give him an injection to appear normal.
As the car door opened, Jason's assistant quickly held an umbrella to shield Jasper and the three kids.
Ryan had been waiting at the entrance of the banquet hall.
Seeing Jasper with the three children, he was both excited and melancholic.
"Mr. Foster," Ryan said, his voice trembling.
Jasper forced himself to walk up to him, glancing around. "Why are you alone? Where's David?"
"David..." Ryan sighed. "The local thug Albert, whom David subdued a few days ago, retaliated with his men. Seeing that things were calm here, he went back to handle it."
Ryan looked Jasper up and down, tears welling up. "You're finally awake."
Jasper nodded. "Now's not the time for catching up."
He glanced at the quiet banquet hall. "What's the situation?"
Ryan was silent for a moment before exhaling deeply. "The banquet is over."
"What!" Jason and the three kids exclaimed in shock.
Blake's face turned pale. "Wasn't it supposed to start in ten minutes?"
Bennett quickly nodded. "Yeah, did the Phoebe family move it up?"
Lauren, teary-eyed, looked at Ryan. "Ryan, is Mom already part of the Phoebe family?"
Ryan nodded heavily. "The banquet was indeed supposed to start in ten minutes."
"But... it seems there was some internal disagreement within the Phoebe family, and with the heavy rain... Howard and Adeline came out and announced Adeline's return to the Phoebe family, making her a member of the Phoebe family, and then ended the banquet early."
He pointed to the quiet banquet hall. "There aren't many people left inside."
Jasper's body swayed. "Adeline... has she publicly announced she's the Phoebe family's daughter?"
Ryan nodded, then shook his head. "Not the first daughter... the second daughter. The first daughter is still Daisy."
Jasper closed his eyes, feeling his strength drain away. He was still too late, wasn't he?
Just then, the banquet hall doors opened. Out came Howard, looking grim, and a silent Adeline.
As soon as they stepped out, they saw Jasper and the others at the entrance. The familiar footsteps made Jasper instinctively open his eyes.
In front of him stood Adeline, wearing a white gown and adorned with luxurious jewelry, standing behind Howard. The woman who haunted his dreams, who had said countless heartless things to him during his coma, Adeline.
Jasper took a deep breath and hurriedly walked over. His steps were so large and urgent that the assistant holding the umbrella couldn't keep up. The heavy rain soaked Jasper's clothes.
Jasper strode to Adeline's side, instinctively reaching out to hold her hand. "Adeline."
Having not spoken for a long time, his voice was hoarse and rough. "I'm here."
Adeline pursed her lips, silently pulling her hand away from his. "Mr. Foster, are you finally done with your business?"
Seeing her cold face, Jasper nodded, his voice hoarse. "I'm done. I'm here to take you home."
He reached out again, trying to grab her hand. But this time, Howard blocked him.
Howard coldly stopped him, his eyes filled with disdain. "Mr. Foster, what nonsense are you talking about? Adeline's home is in Oceancrest City, with the Phoebe family. Take her home? What home? The Foster family that tormented her for so many years? Impossible!"
Jasper frowned. In the past, if he saw Howard, he wouldn't let him leave unscathed. Howard carried the deaths of Lily and Esther, members of the Foster family, on his back. Jasper wanted to tear him apart!
But now, he was Adeline's father. For Adeline's sake, he ignored Howard and continued to look at Adeline. "Adeline. Come home with me."
"I have no home," Adeline coldly avoided him, stepping into the rain. She didn't understand why Jasper always appeared after she had made a decision. Did he think she was too lenient and fond of him, so she would change her mind for him? He broke his promise to her, and she had to break her promise to others for him.
"Adeline," Jasper chased after her in the rain, blocking her path and explaining. "I haven't contacted you because I was in an accident."
Adeline frowned. "What happened to you?"
"I..."
From a distance, Lauren gritted her teeth and shouted. "Dad fell off a cliff while looking for medicine for your mom!"
