Chapter 306 Are You Sure You Want Them to Listen?
Sebastian's words left the room in stunned silence.
Aurora looked at her son, shocked. "Sebastian!"
Jasper frowned, clearly annoyed by Sebastian's defiance.
His blue eyes narrowed. "Is Adeline really that important to you?"
Sebastian stood firm. "Yes."
"More important than your own mother?"
Sebastian let out a bitter laugh. "Mr. Foster, you don't get my family."
"My parents have been abroad for years, focused on their business. My grandparents raised me."
"They encouraged my love for art and painting." He looked at Aurora. "My parents never really cared about me."
"If they did, they wouldn't try to control my life or force me to end a relationship based on lies."
"They wouldn't spread nasty rumors about Adeline, knowing she's my girlfriend."
Aurora turned pale. She thought belittling Adeline would make Sebastian see reason and break up with her.
She never imagined his feelings for Adeline were so strong he'd disown his parents for her.
"Sebastian, please." Adeline couldn't stay quiet any longer. She looked worried. "This is just a misunderstanding. It's not worth cutting ties with your family."
She glanced at her watch. "We're at work. Take your mom home. We can talk later."
Their relationship was fake, just a means to an end. She couldn't let him sacrifice his family for her.
Sebastian hesitated, clenching his jaw. Before he could speak, Aurora grabbed his wrist.
"Yes, listen to Adeline!" She quickly softened, forcing a smile at Adeline. "You're right, dear. This is all just a big misunderstanding."
She practically dragged Sebastian to the door. "We shouldn't disturb your work. Let's talk later!"
Sebastian frowned, looking worriedly back at Adeline.
She gave him a reassuring smile and a small nod, urging him to go with his mom.
With her silent approval, Sebastian let Aurora lead him away.
Silence fell over the office again, the tension even thicker.
"As for you..." Timothy's voice broke the quiet, looking at Ava. "You heard Mrs. Carter. It was all a misunderstanding."
"Now that that's cleared up, shouldn't you apologize?"
Ava bit her lip, her defiance flickering. "I can apologize."
She pointed to her bruised face. "But even if I was wrong to spread rumors, does that give Adeline the right to have me beaten like this?"
Adeline's lips curled into a humorless smile. "Do you have any proof I did that?"
"Who else could it be?" Ava glared at her, her voice shaking with anger. "Those men said you sent them yesterday!"
"And the person I spoke to this morning confirmed it was you!"
"With all this evidence, how can you still deny it?"
"Evidence?" Adeline chuckled, pulling out her phone and dialing a number.
"Mr. Fisher, can you repeat what you just told me?"
A brief silence followed, then a calm voice spoke from the other end. "Miss Wilson, we've caught the guys who attacked Miss Lopez last night."
"They admitted they were told to mention your name to mislead Ms. Lopez."
"Our investigation shows the call came from a number in Neon City."
"We're tracking the caller's location now."
"Thanks, Mr. Fisher." Adeline hung up, her gaze icy as she looked at Ava, who was pale and kneeling on the floor. "While you were busy causing chaos in my design department this morning, I made some calls."
"I spoke to Mr. Fisher, who's handling this case. Turns out, the men who attacked you were following orders from someone in Neon City."
"And as you know, I was having dinner with you at the hotel last night."
"It would have been impossible for me to fly to Neon City and back just to make a call and frame you."
Ava stared at her, speechless.
"And the account you mentioned?" Adeline continued, amused. "If those men weren't working for me, do you think the account has anything to do with me?"
She stifled a yawn. "Ava, you have a real talent for makeup. You could be a special effects artist with skills like that."
"But using that talent to deceive people? That won't get you far."
She leaned back in her chair. "Timothy may want you to apologize, but honestly, I don't see the point."
"You clearly hate me. Any apology would be fake."
"Besides, I don't need your apology."
"The police will be here soon."
"Instead of wasting your breath on me, you should prepare your explanation for them. Tell them why you brought a mob to my office, spread lies, and tried to ruin my reputation."
Right on cue, there was a knock at the door.
"Good afternoon. This is the police. We got a call from Miss Wilson."
Ava's face turned ashen.
She scrambled to her feet and threw herself at Adeline's feet, begging.
"Miss Wilson, please, I beg you! Have mercy! I'm young and foolish!"
"I swear I'll never do anything like this again!"
"Miss Wilson, I..."
Before she could finish, Timothy opened the door.
Chase entered, quickly identified Ava, and escorted her and her group out of the office.
The room buzzed with activity as the police rounded up the intruders.
By the time they left, it was well past lunchtime.
Adeline set down her paintbrush. "Let's get something to eat."
She followed Timothy, Anne, and Robert out of the office.
As she reached the door, Jasper, who had been unusually quiet, stopped her.
"A word, please."
Adeline raised an eyebrow. "If you have something to say, Mr. Foster, now's as good a time as any."
She hadn't missed his defense of Stella earlier and wasn't in the mood for a chat.
"Are you sure about this?" He glanced at her three assistants, then back at her, his voice low. "Are you sure you want them to hear about Bennett and Lauren?"
