Chapter 383 She Definitely Didn't Do It on Purpose
Adeline sneered, "Do you have the skills for that?"
Timothy silently rolled his eyes mockingly at her. "I have extensive experience dealing with these pretentious types. Do you need us to help you get rid of her?"
"No need," Adeline replied, raising her hand to open the file on the desk, her voice indifferent. "Maybe before you even get rid of her, Jasper will have already gotten rid of you."
With that, she pulled out a planning document from the folder and tossed it in front of Timothy. "It's the work schedule for the next three months," she stated firmly.
Timothy frowned as he picked up the document, and glanced at it. "Another big project?” he asked, his voice tinged with concern. "Our last big project just ended less than two months ago. Why do we have to do such time-consuming and labor-intensive work again?"
"Because I need money," Adeline replied, rubbing her aching temples. "My son is scheduled for a major surgery within two weeks, and I need funds for his medical expenses. I signed an agreement with Jasper; he will pay me over six hundred thousand dollars upfront, while I will earn him millions in profit."
Timothy gasped, his eyes widening in disbelief. "Didn't you just recover from an illness? Can you handle such intensive work? If you need money, you could have told me. I have some savings I could lend you."
Adeline shrugged, her expression resolute. "If you really want to help me, just work hard during this time," she replied, her tone leaving no room for argument.
She didn't want to owe anyone any more favors. She had already caused Sebastian's death, and the guilt weighed heavily on her.
Timothy sighed, glancing helplessly at Adeline's work plan, his spirits visibly dampened. "I understand," he said quietly.
With that, Timothy handed the plan back to Adeline. "I'll do my best," he promised, determination creeping into his voice.
Meanwhile, as soon as Brian came out of the office, Anne and Robert hurriedly surrounded him, whispering in the corner. "How did it go?" Anne asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.
"What did Adeline say?" Robert chimed in, leaning closer.
"Do you want us to help get rid of her?" Anne added, a hint of mischief in her tone.
Luna sat at her desk, listening to their conversation with a hint of coldness in her gaze.
'Get rid of her? Do they even have the skills for that!' Luna thought, skepticism swirling in her mind.
Thinking of this, Luna smiled coldly, stretched lazily, and went to the coffee room with her water cup in hand.
As she passed by Lucia, she warmly smiled at her. "Ms. Garcia, would you like me to make you a cup of coffee too?" she asked, her voice laced with genuine kindness.
Lucia glanced at her empty coffee cup. "No, no need," she replied, shaking her head slightly.
"I'll make it for you anyway," Luna insisted, her smile gentle. "I'm just an intern. Since it's my first day at work, and I don't really know what to do. Making you a coffee gives me something to occupy myself with."
With that, Luna directly picked up Lucia's coffee cup. "Do you like it with sugar or without?" she inquired, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.
Seeing her so enthusiastic, Lucia agreed. "Without sugar, thank you," she responded, a small smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
Luna nodded and turned towards the coffee room, her steps light and purposeful.
A few minutes later, Luna carefully walked back to the design department with two full cups of coffee. She first placed her own cup on her desk, then picked up Lucia's cup and walked towards her.
As she made her way to Lucia's desk, Luna had to pass by Anne's workstation. At this moment, Anne had finished chatting with Robert and Timothy and was sitting at her desk, looking for something in her drawer.
Anne's movements were not very gentle, and she accidentally hit the leg of the chair with the drawer, making a crisp sound.
At the very moment Anne made the noise, Luna was startled and stumbled, spilling the coffee she was holding everywhere. Some of the coffee spilled on Luna's chest, but most of it spilled on Anne's back.
Luna and Anne screamed simultaneously, and the whole office instantly became chaotic.
Robert and Timothy rushed over, one on each side of Anne. "Are you okay?" they asked in unison, their voices laced with concern.
Anne's face flushed from the scalding coffee, and her back hurt so much that she couldn't speak, her mouth opening and closing wordlessly.
Meanwhile, Luna's chest was almost completely soaked with coffee. The steaming liquid outlined the delicate lace of her blouse, the fabric clinging to her skin.
The office became chaotic. Timothy glared at Luna angrily. "Can't you even walk properly?" he demanded, his voice dripping with accusation.
Luna bit her lip, tears of grievance welling up in her eyes. "I was startled by Anne," she explained, her voice wavering slightly. "She made a noise and it scared me, so I accidentally spilled the coffee."
As she spoke, tears began to freely down her cheeks. "I didn't do it on purpose," she insisted, her voice thick with emotion. "And I'm hurt too!"
Robert glanced at Luna's coffee-stained chest and then at Anne's almost completely soaked back, his voice cold and calculating. "Are you more seriously hurt than Anne?" he asked, a hint of skepticism in his tone.
Luna bit her lip, looking utterly aggrieved.
Lucia looked up, saw the scene unfolding before her, and felt a pang of guilt when she realized it was Luna holding her coffee cup.
Quickly, she got up and rushed over, standing protectively in front of Luna. "Ms. Jones didn't do it on purpose," she asserted, her voice firm. "Why are you being so aggressive?"
Although Lucia didn't particularly like Luna, Luna had gotten into trouble while bringing her coffee.Lucia had no reason not to protect her.
"Ms. Garcia." Luna sobbed, "It's my fault. They have every right to scold me. Don't let this affect your relationship with your colleagues. I'm fine."
She looked down at the coffee on her chest, her voice tinged with a sob. "I'll be fine after applying some ointment," she assured them. "It's just a burn; it will heal soon. No need to argue."
Her words seemed to downplay her injury but actually implied that Timothy and Robert were overly concerned about Anne.
Timothy and Robert were furious. How extensive were the burns on Luna's body? Anne's entire back was scalded!
The commotion outside made it impossible for Adeline to concentrate on her work. She frowned and irritably pushed open the office door. "What's going on?" she demanded.
"Nothing," Luna quickly replied, biting her lip and turning to Adeline. "I accidentally scalded Anne. Timothy and Robert think I did it on purpose.
Luna continued, "I'm apologizing to them."
Timothy glared at Luna angrily. "When did you apologize?" he challenged, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
From the beginning until now, Luna had been defending herself, not apologizing at all. And now she had the nerve to say she was apologizing?
Luna looked at Timothy in surprise. "Didn't I apologize?" she asked, her brow furrowed in confusion.
Then she quickly bowed to Anne. "I'm sorry!" she exclaimed. "They scolded me so harshly that I was busy explaining and forgot to apologize to you!"
Timothy was fuming, glaring at Luna's face. "What do you mean? You didn't apologize because we scolded you?" he demanded, his voice rising in pitch.
Adeline frowned and interrupted Timothy, "Timothy, Anne doesn't look well. You and Robert should take her to the hospital."
Then Adeline frowned again. "It's not convenient for two men to take her," she added. "Bring a female colleague along."
A female colleague in the office raised her hand. "I can go with them," she offered.
Adeline nodded in acknowledgment.
After the four left, she glanced at Luna indifferently. "Ms. Jones, do you need to go to the hospital too?" she asked, her tone neutral.
Luna silently shook her head. "I don't have anyone to back me up, and I'm not that delicate," she replied, her voice tinged with resignation.
Luna's words caused another stir in the office.
Adeline squinted her eyes. remaining silent.
Seeing the awkward atmosphere, Lucia quickly spoke up, "You should go get yourself checked out; it looks pretty serious."
Luna sighed, looking troubled, and picked up her phone to call Jasper. "Jasper, I got burned," she said, her voice laced with concern. "Ms. Garcia said it's pretty serious and that I should go to the hospital. Do you have time to come?"
She paused, her expression softening slightly. "It's not anyone else's fault; it was my own carelessness that I was startled by Ms. Wilson's assistant. Even though she always says she wants to get rid of me, I'm sure she didn't do it on purpose."
