Chapter 273 Are They Also Worse Than Livestock?

"Yes, Miss Wilson." As soon as Adeline spoke, Tim whipped out his phone. "Hello, I need to report..."

Daniel stood nearby, his face dark and stormy. Finally, he clenched his fists. "I wanted to have someone beat you up, so what? You made my daughter cry. As her father, am I not allowed to do something about it?"

"Besides, I only planned it. I didn't actually do it!"

"Even if you call the cops, I'm not scared!"

Adeline sneered, locking eyes with Daniel. "Who said I called the police just because you planned to hurt me?"

Her words sent a shiver down Daniel's spine. He recalled Adeline's earlier mention of the orphanage in Neon City.

Daniel squinted at her. Could she be planning to expose what he did over twenty years ago?

If that came out, his life would be ruined.

Fury consumed Daniel as he glared at Adeline. She turned and saw a utility knife on the desk behind him.

In a split second, when no one was noticing, Daniel grabbed the knife and lunged at Adeline. If she wanted to ruin him, he wouldn't let her off easy!

"Watch out!" Jasper saw Daniel's move first, but it was too late to stop him.

Jasper rushed forward and kicked Daniel, who stumbled, and the knife, aimed at Adeline's neck, plunged into her right shoulder instead.

The blade was sharp, and Daniel had used all his strength, so the knife sank deep into Adeline's shoulder.

Pain shot through her, and blood splattered onto Jasper and Daniel's faces.

"Miss Wilson!" Tom rushed forward, pinning Daniel to the ground.

With Daniel restrained, he still glared at Adeline fiercely. "You're lucky! But next time, you won't be!"

"Should you even think of revealing our family's secrets, I'll battle you to the last breath!" Daniel's voice trembled with fury.

Adeline's face turned pale, trembling from the pain. She wanted to speak, but no words came out.

Shock, pain, disappointment, and despair all mixed.

How could Adeline have imagined that a few casual threats would drive Daniel, a man who had always been gentle and polite, to try to kill her?

He was her father, the one who had given her life and raised her for twenty years.

Adeline never fathomed that her outwardly honest and gentle father would engage in acts like swapping infants or eventually resort to murder. And the person he wanted to kill was her.

"Ah!" A shocked female voice rang in her ears.

Adeline looked up, and just before everything went dark, she saw Lucia, who had just arrived for work, stepping back in shock at the sight of the blood-filled room.

Adeline furrowed her brow, trying to say something, but her vision blackened, and she passed out.

In that moment of fainting, she saw Jasper picking her up and holding her in his arms.

When Adeline woke up, it was already noon. Violet was sitting by her hospital bed, gently wiping away the blood splatters on her body.

Seeing her open her eyes, Violet frowned. "Don't move."

Adeline lay still and asked, "Is my arm ruined?"

Violet rolled her eyes. "If your arm were ruined, I wouldn't be sitting here so calmly."

Adeline sighed lightly. "Well, that's good then."

"Damn it!" Violet rolled her eyes again. "Daniel is ruthless. If he hadn't missed, your shoulder would have been pierced!"

"Luckily, it didn't hit any bones. Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to design anymore."

Adeline chuckled softly. "I never knew he was this ruthless."

"Don't show mercy anymore," Violet sighed. "You always value past relationships, so even when they go too far, you're reluctant to pursue it."

"But look, no matter how forgiving you are, they still want to harm you."

Adeline nodded. "I'll keep that in mind."

From now on, she could completely sever any thoughts of the Collins family.

Violet sighed once more, eager to elaborate, yet upon observing Adeline's weary countenance, she refrained from speaking further.

The two fell silent for a while, and then there was a knock on the door. It was the police. "Miss Wilson, we need your statement."

Adeline nodded, propping herself up against the headboard. "Sure."

The police officer sat down beside the bed and, after routine questioning, glanced at Adeline. "According to another key witness, Jasper, Daniel's knife was originally aimed at your neck. Is that correct?"

Perhaps not expecting Jasper to be so straightforward in detailing Daniel's actions, Adeline hesitated for a moment before nodding firmly. "Yes."

"Which means Daniel originally intended to stab you in a vital area but was stopped by Jasper, is that right?"

Without hesitation, Adeline nodded again. "Yes."

"So, he's a suspect of attempted murder now." The police officer nodded, gathered some more information, and then left.

Violet was speechless with shock. "I wasn't there; I thought Daniel just wanted to hurt your arm and prevent you from designing further."

Adeline gave a bitter smile. "No, he was after my life."

Violet sighed for a moment, then remembered that Adeline must be hungry and got up to go downstairs to buy her some food.

Alone in the hospital bed, Adeline stared at the empty ceiling, lost in thought.

"Well, Miss Wilson certainly knows how to handle situations," a voice dripping with sarcasm remarked.

Adeline furrowed her brow. She didn't even need to look to know that it was Stella who had arrived.

Adeline kept her gaze fixed on the ceiling. "What brings you here?"

"You, of course." Stella elegantly sat down on the chair beside the bed. "Yesterday at the cafe, Miss Wilson said something to me, let me think..."

"Even animals show respect to their parents."

"Those who don't respect their parents are worse than beasts, right?"

Stella lowered her head, a mocking smile on her lips. "Now, Miss Wilson has personally sent her biological father to prison on charges of attempted murder."

"Does that count?"
