Chapter 534 She Can't Get Out

Jasper showing up was a godsend for Adeline, who'd been in agony all day. Finally, she got a painkiller shot.

As the meds kicked in and the pain eased up, Adeline could finally lie down and stare at her mangled pinky. It just dangled there, totally useless now.

She remembered what the guy who broke her finger had said that morning, "The boss wants one finger a day. How many you keep depends on how long Mr. Foster wants you here."

Adeline glanced sadly at her other fingers. Would she be completely disabled after ten days? Who would guess these hands could create world-class jewelry designs?

Just then, the hospital room door creaked open. Jasper stood there, looking devastated.

Hearing the door, Adeline turned her head instinctively and saw the tall, upright figure of Jasper.

Earlier, when she was out of her mind with pain, she had told Jasper to get lost. But now, seeing him, she climbed out of bed and gave him a sweet smile. "Jasper."

Jasper froze for a moment at her smile. How long had it been since she smiled at him like that? How long since she called him Jasper? If only she wasn't a mental patient right now.

Jasper sighed, walked in, sat by her bed, and looked at her bandaged pinky. "Don't hurt yourself like this again."

Adeline's heart went cold. Did Jasper think she did this to herself? What a joke! Even if she was mentally ill, she knew what pain was. Did he have any idea how much it hurt to break a finger? How could he be so indifferent and think she'd do this to herself?

But she still smiled. "I won't do it again."

She grabbed Jasper's sleeve with her uninjured hand, trying to act cute like Luna. "Jasper, please take me out of here? I'll do whatever you want. I'll be good, okay?"

Adeline was desperate to leave. She was terrified that if she stayed, she'd lose a finger every day and end up completely disabled.

She still had Blake and Lauren to take care of; Bennett and Sebastian were waiting for her to rescue them. She couldn't become a cripple, she just couldn't!

But right now, she had no other way out. She had to beg Jasper to let her go, for the sake of the three kids she had with him and the love she once had for him.

"Jasper," she said, shaking him harder. "Take me out of here; we can get treatment outside, okay? During the day, I'll stay with Grandma and the kids; at night, you can tie me up and lock me up, whatever you want."

Adeline bit her lip, a hint of shyness on her face. "If you want me to sleep with you, I can do that too. We can have another child to make up for the one we lost, okay?"

Adeline forced herself to swallow her disgust. "It's been a while since we've been close, hasn't it? I kinda miss it."

Jasper stiffened up, turning to look at her, whose eyes were full of desperation.

She clung to his sleeve, her voice and gaze equally humble. Jasper saw the pain in her eyes. He had dreamed of Adeline being this obedient, staying by his side. But he knew she was just trying to escape and avoid treatment.

Jasper took a deep breath and gently pried her fingers off his sleeve. "Adeline, I know you don't mean any of this. Instead of wasting time saying these things, why not focus on getting better?"

He stood up, looking at her face. "When you recover, I'll bring Blake and Lauren to pick you up. We'll leave Radiance Springs and live the life you want. Stop torturing yourself and cooperate with the treatment."

With that, Jasper suppressed his sadness and turned to leave. Adeline watched him go, heartbroken. Even after putting down her pride, it wasn't enough. She bit her lip, holding back tears.

"Jasper!" As she shouted, there was a "thud" behind Jasper. He had just stepped out when the sound made him turn back quickly. The scene shocked him.

In the pale hospital room, Adeline, in her blue and white striped gown, was kneeling on the ground, eyes full of pleading. "I'm kneeling for you."

She looked up at him. "I'm begging you. Please take me out of here, okay?"

She raised her hand, pointing to the sky. "I swear to God, I'll never have any conflict with Luna again. I'll never challenge her place in your heart. Just let me out, please."

Adeline lowered her dignity even further. "Mr. Foster, I know I've done things that made you angry. Please don't hold it against me. Take me out of here; I really don't want to stay."

Jasper looked down at her, his heart aching. If he took her away now, what would happen if she had another episode?

Ignoring her pleas, he walked away with large strides. The heavy iron door of the hospital room closed with a loud bang, shattering Adeline's heart.

She was trapped. As long as Jasper believed she was sick, she had to stay. No matter how much she begged, it was useless.

Adeline closed her eyes, about to crawl back to bed, when she heard Dr. Walker's voice faintly from outside. "Mr. Foster, don't worry. We'll assign more staff. She's a key patient, so we'll arrange six caregivers for her every day!"

Adeline sneered coldly in her heart. This time, it seemed she couldn't escape even if she had wings.
