Chapter 256 Leave It to the Police

Stella looked extremely worried. "Jasper, I think it's better to call the police first."

She clutched her chest, her eyes red. "I'm heartbroken that my father would do such a thing."

"If I had known he would do this, I would have stopped him for sure."

After saying this, Stella glanced meaningfully at Adeline. "You know, Adeline and I have always had conflicts."

Stella sniffled, her voice tinged with a hint of crying. "When the plagiarism incident broke out, Adeline kept looking at me with suspicion."

She looked at Jasper with teary eyes. "I'm afraid Adeline wants to meet my father alone to force him to implicate some innocent people."

Finally, Stella took a deep breath. "I think it's better to let the police handle it directly. What do you think?"

Jasper remained silent.

He sat down in a chair in the meeting room, his deep, unreadable eyes glancing lightly at Stella, then at Adeline.

Finally, Jasper spoke indifferently, "Stella is right."

"Until things are clarified, neither Adeline nor Stella should meet Daniel alone."

He gestured to Ryan, "Let the police handle it."

At that moment, Adeline's heart clenched.

Despite her long-standing dissatisfaction with Daniel and Helen's favoritism and their reactions to her supposed death, they were still her biological parents.

Although she had often said she would cut ties with them and no longer care about their affairs, she had lived with Daniel and Helen and called them parents for twenty years.

If Daniel were indeed imprisoned for leaking such significant business secrets, he would face a considerable sentence. He was a douchebag, deserving punishment for cheating on Helen with a mistress for so many years, but if he went to prison, what would happen to Helen?

Closing her eyes, just before Ryan left, Adeline stopped him.

She turned to Jasper. "Mr. Foster, is there anything we can do in this matter?"

Jasper raised an eyebrow, looking slightly surprised as he gazed at her. "Adeline, what Daniel stole was your design."

"If we don't bring him to justice, there's no way to find evidence that Brian stole your designs."

"Without evidence proving he stole your designs, you will be labeled as a plagiarist."

"You won't survive in the jewelry design industry."

Jasper succinctly explained the impact of the situation on Adeline.

Adeline bit her lip. "I understand."

Adeline sniffled. "But, after all, Daniel is Stella's biological father, your wife's father."

"We can find other ways to prove that Brian stole my designs."

Jasper looked at Adeline, his sharp eyes seeming to penetrate her soul to understand her innermost thoughts.

Adeline turned her face away, unable to meet his gaze. "I just feel..."

Before Adeline could finish, Jasper interrupted and said, "For someone who violates your and the company's interests, you shouldn't have this attitude."

"You are not an indecisive person." Jasper bluntly pointed out her weakness. "What are you really trying to do, suddenly overflowing with sympathy?"

Adeline gasped.

She took a deep breath, then turned to face Jasper fearlessly. "Mr. Foster, I just feel that, as humans, we shouldn't lack empathy."

"No matter what Daniel did, he is still your wife's father."

"Even if he made a mistake, it's your family matter."

"If you insist on reporting to the police, and he ends up being prosecuted and imprisoned for leaking important business confidential, have you thought about what will happen to his wife, Helen,, who has always had heart problems?"

Finally, Adeline slammed the file she was holding onto the table. "Forget it. In the end, this is between you and the Collins family."

"I'm just a victim, and I have no right to speak."

With that, Adeline turned and left in large strides, leaving the office staff looking bewildered.

Clearly, Adeline was the victim, while Stella was Daniel's biological daughter.

Why did it seem like their roles had suddenly reversed?

Watching Adeline's angry departure, Jasper narrowed his eyes, the light in them growing increasingly complex.

"Jasper." Stella sighed, walking over to hold his hand. "Why is Ms. Wilson suddenly so concerned about our family affairs? When did she become so caring?"

"I'm surprised, too." Jasper withdrew his gaze, his voice indifferent, "Adeline, who has always been businesslike, suddenly mentioning family matters to me is a bit unexpected."

He then glanced at Stella. "Just like you, who has always been unconditionally obedient and worried about family, suddenly advocating for such drastic measures. It's puzzling."

Stella's expression shifted slightly. After a moment, she bit her lip, a hint of shyness crossing her face. "I'm doing this for you."

Finally, she carefully watched Jasper's expression. "Regarding my father's situation, what do you plan to do?"

Jasper hesitated for a moment. "What we should do? Call the police."

After leaving the Foster Group, Adeline took a taxi back to Willowcrest Terrace.

Upon arriving home, she noticed the door of the neighboring Sebastian's house was open.

Sebastian was inside making apple pie.

Hearing the noise from the elevator, Sebastian hurried out, smiling at Adeline. "Come in, let me treat you to something delicious."

Adeline frowned and declined, "I'm not in the mood."

"I know you're not feeling well. That's why I invited you over for a feast." Sebastian cheerfully led Adeline into his living room. "You just came from the Foster Group, and Blake called me as soon as you left. I know what happened."

Adeline paused.

Subconsciously, she lowered her head, gripping the pendant on her necklace. "You secretly turned on the switch to eavesdrop on our meeting, didn't you?"

After a long pause, Blake's muffled voice came. "I wouldn't reveal your meeting secrets."

Adeline fell silent.

Blake had never been an inconsiderate child.

Now, speaking so lightly and playfully, he was clearly trying to cheer her up.

But Adeline couldn't find it in herself to smile.

"It seems like Bennett is the one who knows how to make people laugh." After a while, the voice on the phone sighed. "I saw the design draft Brian released this morning. I turned on the switch because I was worried about you."

"Mom, I absolutely didn't mean to pry into your privacy."

Sebastian came out from the kitchen with the food. "You're her son. Even if you pry into her privacy, she won't do anything to you."

"Besides, if we don't use a little trickery, she'll keep everything to herself if she has anything on her mind!"

Handing the fork to Adeline, he said, "Eat first, then think about what to do next."

Adeline held the fork, looking at the table full of delicious food, but she couldn't bring herself to eat.

Seeing her lost expression, Sebastian furrowed his brows and set down his fork. "Adeline, I know you can't bear to see your biological father go to jail."

"But have you thought that if Jasper tolerates this now, Daniel might do it again?"

"At that time, the immeasurable losses to the Foster Group won't be something you can handle."

"No matter if Stella influenced Daniel or not, he made this mistake, then he should face the consequences."

Adeline bit her lip, about to say something, when her phone rang.

It was Ryan calling.

"Adeline."

Ryan's voice sounded awkward on the phone. "Daniel has been arrested."

"His wife, Helen, has fainted and been taken to the hospital."

"Mr. Foster asked me to tell you that since you're feeling so sympathetic, you should go visit Helen."
