Chapter 522 I'll Wait Right Here

Adeline was so pumped she almost jumped out of her skin!

Dr. Smith's team actually made it to Radiance Springs! And guess what? They were crashing at Mia's hotel!

Adeline blurted out, "I'll be right there!"

She hung up and dashed to her closet, rummaging for something formal to wear.

Adeline had already pieced together why Dr. Smith's team faked Luna's medical certificate. Last night at the hospital, Vikram sent her a few voice messages. Even though his voice was kinda muffled, Adeline managed to connect the dots.It turned out Caroline, who Vikram accidentally pushed down the stairs, and Lucas were both treated by Dr. Smith back in the day! Dr. Smith was a big shot in medicine, but he botched it twice, which was a huge embarrassment for the hospital. So, they went all out to cover it up.

Even Dr. Smith's current wife had no clue about his two failed resuscitations. Adeline figured that the fake certificate for Luna had something to do with Caroline and Lucas's deaths. After all, after they died, Dr. Smith married Evelyn, who was way younger than him. He had the most to gain.

With that in mind, Adeline hopped into a cab to the Aurora Grand Hotel.

When she got there, Mia came up and rolled her eyes. "Why don't you ever let me finish? I said Dr. Smith's team is at my hotel and asked if you wanted to meet them, but I didn't mean right this second!"

Mia poked Adeline's forehead with a rhinestone-adorned finger. "Dr. Smith's team arriving in Radiance Springs has everyone in the medical community buzzing. They were whisked away as soon as they got here. They're giving a lecture at the downtown hospital now. No clue when they'll be back. Only some family members are left at the hotel."

Mia sighed. "I even asked their family members if the big boss who brought them here was in a hurry. Guess what they said? The appointment with the big boss is tomorrow, so today they can do whatever."

Mia dragged Adeline into the hotel, fuming. "When I asked them to come over, they were super reluctant! But now, they say they have time to kill!"

Seeing Mia all worked up, Adeline couldn't help but laugh. "Don't be mad; the fact that they're here in Radiance Springs is a win."

Mia sighed and looked at Adeline. "Do you want to head back? They're giving a lecture; who knows when they'll be back."

Adeline shook her head and plopped down on the lobby sofa. "I'll wait here."

She was worried that if she went home, they'd come back, and she'd miss her chance to meet Dr. Smith's team. She had a gut feeling that if they only met once, they wouldn't spill the beans. This was gonna be a long game, and Adeline was ready.

Mia wanted to convince Adeline to go back, but seeing her determined look, she just sighed and decided to wait with her.

The whole morning dragged on, and still, no one from Dr. Smith's team showed up.

By noon, Mia had had enough and tried to convince Adeline to leave. When she realized Adeline wasn't budging, she had the hotel staff bring her lunch and then slipped away herself.

Adeline wasn't mad; she knew waiting around was a drag. But she had no choice. For Bennett and Sebastian, she had to stick it out. She needed to expose Luna and make sure Molly lost her as an ally.

Time crawled by.

As the sun started to set, Adeline still hadn't seen anyone from Dr. Smith's team. But then she got a message from Vikram.

Vikram: [Adeline, I just remembered, today is Caroline's death anniversary.]

Vikram: [I've been feeling uneasy all day, maybe because I've been looking into her case. I'm really scared.]

Vikram: [Can you help me and take some flowers to her grave?]

Adeline frowned at her phone.

Adeline: [Why don't you go yourself?]

Vikram: [I'm scared.]

Vikram must've felt that texting wasn't enough to show how freaked out he was, so he called her. "Adeline, please take some flowers to her for me; I'm really scared. And I feel guilty because I'm partly responsible for her death. I'm abroad right now, and it's so late; I can't find a flower shop."

Listening to Vikram's shaky voice, Adeline sighed. She was debating whether to ditch her day's wait to help Vikram when she heard a middle-aged woman's voice nearby.

"Excuse me, do you know where there's a flower shop around here? Today is my daughter's death anniversary, and I want to take some flowers to her."

The woman's words instantly perked Adeline up.

She stood up and looked toward the voice.

At the reception desk, dressed in a simple white dress, was the middle-aged woman she had researched earlier—Caroline's mother, Evelyn!

Adeline quickly hung up on Vikram.

In the morning, Mia had mentioned that some family members had come with Dr. Smith's team. But Adeline hadn't expected Evelyn to be one of them!

Adeline hurried over. "Ma'am, are you looking for a flower shop? It just so happens I'm heading to the cemetery today too; I can take you there."

Evelyn glanced at Adeline. "Thank you. Just call me Evelyn."

Evelyn sighed, a hint of sadness crossing her face. "You said you're going to the cemetery? Did your friend also pass away on this day?"

Adeline nodded, leading Evelyn toward the flower shop, and sighed lightly. "Yes, it's been a few years. She was a beautiful and smart girl, such a pity."

Adeline's words seemed to touch Evelyn.

Evelyn sniffed and held back her tears. "My daughter was also beautiful and smart. It's just a pity she didn't have a kind and gentle friend like you. If she hadn't foolishly befriended and roomed with that scheming woman, she wouldn't have died."

Evelyn sighed. "It's also my fault for not raising her well. If I had, she wouldn't have obeyed that woman in everything, even losing her life in the end."

Evelyn's words made Adeline's body stiffen. She said Caroline obeyed Luna in everything? But what Adeline had heard from Vikram was that Caroline always bullied Luna.
